ロシア外務省のザハロバは、2019/11/8に "James Le Mesurier, is a former agent of Britain’s MI6, who has been spotted all around the world, including in the #Balkans and the #MiddleEast. His connections to terrorist groups were reported back during his mission in #Kosovo."

英国人の女性フリージャーナリスト、ベネッサ・ビーレイがツイートで、@MarkUrban01がロシアの陰謀をほのめかすツイートを削除したことに触れ、@MarkUrban01 deleted his Tweets suggesting death ofJames Le Mesurier, might be related to "Russian black propaganda". Was he told to delete by MI6?

James Le Mesurier, White Helmets co-founder, discovered dead in Turkey
A former British Army officer honoured by the Queen for his work with the White Helmets civil defence group in Syria has been found dead in Turkey.

The body of James Le Mesurier, who received an OBE in 2016, was discovered on Monday near his home in Istanbul, White Helmet sources told the BBC.

Mr Le Mesurier set up the Mayday Rescue emergency response group, which helped train White Helmets volunteers.

The cause of death is not known. Turkey has launched an investigation.

Why is there a war in Syria?

In a tweet, the White Helmets said the group had "learned with shock and sadness the news" of the death of Mr Le Mesurier.

Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, a director of the Doctors Under Fire campaign group and a friend of Mr Le Mesurier, said: "It's absolutely tragic. He was one of the few people who have made a humanitarian footprint in Syria."

Mr de Bretton-Gordon said the White Helmets had a very "strong structure" and their work would continue. But he said Mr Le Mesurier's death had left a "hole to fill".
What do we know about Le Mesurier's death?

Mr Le Mesurier's body was found at about 04:30 local time (01:30 GMT) on the street near his home and office in Istanbul's Beyoglu district on the European side of the city.

He was found with fractures to his head and legs, Turkish media say, and is believed to have fallen from his balcony.

A "comprehensive" investigation has been launched, the Istanbul governor's office says.
Who was Le Mesurier?

Mr Le Mesurier, who was believed to be in his 40s at the time of his death and had also worked for the United Nations, was considered a co-founder of the White Helmets.

The organisation, which is also known as the Syria Civil Defence, helps rescue civilians caught up in attacks in areas of Syria controlled by the opposition to President Bashar al-Assad.

In 2016, the organisation received the Right Livelihood Award in recognition for "outstanding bravery, compassion and humanitarian engagement in rescuing civilians". Later the same year the group was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

But the Syrian government and its allies Russia and Iran have accused the White Helmets of openly aiding terrorist organisations and the Russian foreign ministry last week accused Mr Le Mesurier of being a former agent of the UK's Secret Intelligence Service, better known as MI6.

The Russian allegation was strongly denied on Monday by Karen Pierce, the UK ambassador to the UN, who said: "The Russian charges against him, that came out of the foreign ministry that he was a spy, are categorically untrue."

Mr Le Mesurier received an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) from the Queen in 2016 for "services to the Syria Civil Defence group and the protection of civilians in Syria".

Founder of 'White Helmets' James Le Mesurier Found Dead in Istanbul
Le Mesurier, a former MI6 officer, created the controversial 'urban search and rescue' organisation in 2013. The White Helmets have been repeatedly accused of staging fake attacks in the conflict in Syria in a bid to prompt a Western-backed military intervention in the war-torn country.

A law enforcement source has confirmed the death of James Le Mesurier at his home in Istanbul. However, the source added that at this time, it remains "unclear whether he was murdered, or committed suicide."

The White Helmets' official Twitter account has confirmed Le Mesurier's passing, saying the group was 'shocked and saddened' by the news and expressing its "deepest condolences to the James family." The group commended the former intelligence agent's "humanitarian efforts which Syrians will always remember."

Earlier, an anonymous diplomat was quoted by Reuters as saying that Le Mesurier's body had been found early Monday morning at his home in the city's Beyoglu district.

Sözcü, a major Turkish daily newspaper, reported, citing police sources, that Le Mesurier may have killed himself, and that he had been taking anti-depressant medication for some time ahead of Monday's incident.

Sabah, another major Turkish paper, also reported, citing law enforcement, that police consider suicide the most likely cause of Le Mesurier's death, with the former spy possibly jumping to his death from the balcony of his 3rd floor apartment. No traces of gunshot or knife wounds were found his body, police told Sabah.

A source close to the investigation later said that there was no evidence of any unauthorised persons being near his residence at the time of his death.

Le Mesurier's wife was quoted by Sabah as saying that she and her husband had dinner together on Sunday. "After that we took sleeping pills and went to bed. A few hours later I woke up from the ringing of our doorbell. It was the police. They told me that my husband had fallen from the balcony and died."

Police are continuing their investigation.
Founder of Terrorists' 'Propaganda Arm'

Le Mesurier, a British private security specialist and former UK military intelligence officer, founded the White Helmets in Turkey in March 2013. Before that, he served as an intelligence officer in other theatres of conflict, including a stint in Pristina, Kosovo soon after the NATO intervention in 1999. In the 2000s, he went on to serve as vice president of special projects at the Olive Group, a private mercenary organisation which later merged with Blackwater-Academi into Constellis Holdings.

In a 2014 interview, Le Mesurier said that he spontaneously raised about $300,000 in initial funding from the UK, the US and other countries and trained 25 vetted operatives to create the White Helmets after witnessing the suffering in Syria, with the group soon accumulating over $150 million in cash after Western NGOs, Gulf countries, several European countries and Japan sent money and supplies to help the group. The group continues to enjoy widespread publicity and support in Western countries, and is a UK-registered non-governmental organisation.

Syria considers the White Helmets a "terrorist organisation," citing the group's regular operations in areas controlled by jihadist militants, including al-Qaeda offshoot the Nusra Front,* as well as its creation of video fakes which seem designed to prompt Western military intervention in Syria. Independent journalists have repeatedly accused the group of serving as 'al-Nusra's propaganda arm', given its alleged ties to the militants.

In April 2018, the US, UK and France launched a series of air and cruise missile strikes against Syria following the publication of a White Helmets video appearing to show that a horrific chemical attack that had taken place in Douma, a city in the Damascus suburbs about 10 km from the capital. The Douma attack was later debunked by verified testimony from multiple eyewitnesses who appeared in the video, including that of an 11-year-old boy who revealed that he and his mother had been given food to participate in the video. Since that time, Damascus and its allies have repeatedly voiced concerns about the possibility of more fake videos and false flag attacks by the groups designed to prompt Western intervention.

Last week, the Russian Foreign Ministry urged London to investigate Le Mesurier's possible ties to al-Qaeda. At a briefing on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed to independent research indicating the former spy's possible links to terrorist organisations going back to his work in Kosovo. "There is data suggesting that there were al-Qaeda members among his team there," Zakharova said, adding that Moscow would "very much like to hear what London has to say about these facts."

Earlier this year, Britain's Home Office announced that some 100 volunteers and family members from the White Helmets had been resettled in the UK after being evacuated from Syria last year with the help of British government officials.

BBC backtrack on their own fake news as claims regarding Istanbul death of White Helmets co-founder are deleted
The death of the White Helmets co-founder, British mercenary James Le Mesurier, instantly led to suggestions of Russian involvement from the BBC. They deleted the rumours from Twitter too late, the fire of conspiracy was aflame.

The war in Syria has claimed an estimated 400,000 victims since it began and now British military contractor James Le Mesurier, could join their ranks after his death in Istanbul last night. Or maybe not.

The key supporter of the White Helmets, a group of first-responders who have been operating in the middle of the Syrian war, reportedly fell from his apartment balcony and died. The circumstances of his death are not yet clear.

But that was enough to set off the conspiracy theorists who believe every unexplained death in the world is somehow connected back to shady Russian organisations working alone or alongside the state.

That is how we end up with the BBC Diplomatic Editor Mark Urban suggesting that the dead man, widely reported online (degree of likely accuracy 50-50) to have been a former MI6 agent, may have been murdered, a comment Urban based on the spurious grounds that "a former colleague told" him.

In balance, he further stated that, “another well-placed source disagrees.”

What sort of intelligent, reliable, fact-based journalism is this? This the BBC! It seems these unsubstantiated comments from Urban were considered too much even for the BBC and the thread was removed from Twitter, but not before it had been retweeted nearly 400 times, giving it legs and a life that have already done the job of emulating fake news.

Now, perhaps unwittingly, the BBC has poisoned the well for any future investigation. The existence of unnamed sources, the former colleagues who will never be named or found, the taint of something very wrong have just decimated any hopes of an objective inquiry into what actually happened.

Because when such a senior journalist even suggests the whiff of scandal or intrigue around an incident like this, it is like a match to the touch-paper for social media nutters.

No more evidence needed. This, the Twitterati has decided, is part of an ongoing Russian plot to rid the world of another of its enemies through murder.

And so the strange phenomenon of Twitter reinforcement begins. Any dissenting voices are simply drowned out making a real objective understanding of what is going on totally impossible.

That is the peril of relying on Twitter, an unfiltered conduit between self-appointed guardians of the universe and the outright mad, as a primary news source.

Despite the fact that the one source they are all using to back their wild accusations – Twitter comments from the BBC - has now been deleted, the influence it holds lives on and gathers pace.

This is how it happens, time and time again.

So while Twitter burns, like a Californian hillside, with rage at this potentially tragic accident, take a minute to consider who the victim is.

James Le Mesurier was a former British army officer (maybe intelligence services) and had been working as a military contractor – we used to call them mercenaries – in some pretty dodgy places for many years.

While the liberals laud the work of the White Helmets, there is another view, a view that is held by former US marine and US weapons inspector Scott Ritter.

He wrote in 2016: "The White Helmets' function as an effective propaganda arm of the anti-Assad movement… with their training, equipment and logistical sustainment underwritten exclusively by donations from Western governments (primarily the US and UK), the White Helmets serve as a virtual echo chamber for American and British politicians and officials."

So it seems the White Helmets are not the rescue angels some would have us believe.

One thing we do know is that through his work and his shadowy connections Le Mesurier is a man who certainly knew a lot. Maybe about Russia, but also about the UK, about the US and about Western involvement in the battle of Syria. And maybe that knowledge led to his death.

Or maybe, more prosaically, he simply fell from his apartment balcony in a moment of disorientation in the middle of the night.
