Sources: US Launches Coup against Kurds in Collaboration with Turkey
TEHRAN (FNA)- Kurdish sources in Syria say that the US has initiated a rigid move in collaboration with Turkey to undermine the Kurdish militants and force them to leave parts of Northern Syria.

The sources were quoted by the Arabic-language website of Sputnik as saying on Wednesday that the Kurds have sent three separate delegations to Damascus, Moscow and Cairo to find a way out of the quagmire created by Washington for them.

They added that the US has worked out a scheme to aggravate enmities between Turkey and the Kurds and launched a coup against them, moving in line with Turkey in common plans in Eastern Euphrates region.

The sources said that the US used the Syrian tribes that are supported by certain Persian Gulf Arab states as a replacement for the Kurds as they could better advance Washington's goals without threatening Turkey's interests.

They also revealed that the US is attempting to revive the ISIL in Eastern Euphrates to be used against the Syrian army.

In relevant remarks on Saturday, a prominent Lebanese political expert said that the US had turned its back on the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) after an agreement with Ankara to create a safe zone in Northern Syria, adding that Washington was using the Kurds as a tool to attain its goals.

Hassan Hardan told the Arabic-language al-Alam news channel that the US had struck an agreement with Turkey against the SDF after using them as an instrument in Syria.

He added that the SDF implemented the US policies in a move to establish an autonomous region in Northern Syria but now the possibility for the formation of such a canton has faded away, noting that now the Kurdish forces should decide if they want to continue their ties with the US despite its disloyalties.

Hardan said that the agreement between the US and Turkey was predictable since the very first day because the US never backtracks from supporting its strategic ally, adding that relations between Washington and the SDF were just directed towards meeting the US demands in the Syria crisis.

Turkish and US officials clinched a deal last Wednesday to establish a “joint operations center” aimed at creating a safe zone in Northern Syria to grapple with tensions between Ankara and a Washington-backed Kurdish militia.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for his part, welcomed the agreement, saying that “it was important that a step be taken east of the Euphrates (River) and this is being taken together with the Americans”.

“With the creation of the operations center, the process will begin”, he pointed out, in an apparent reference to the creation of a safe zone in Northern Syria.

But Damascus lashed out at the US-Turkish deal.

“Syria categorically and blatantly rejects the agreement […] on the establishment of a so-called safe zone”, the state-run SANA news agency cited an unnamed Syrian foreign ministry source as saying last Thursday.

The source also argued that “Syria's Kurds who have accepted to become a tool in this aggressive US-Turkish project bear a historical responsibility in this regard”.

The Syrian foreign ministry also slammed the deal as “a gross violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria”, which violates the principles of international law and the UN charter.

According to Damascus, the deal represents "a dangerous escalation and a threat to peace and stability" in the area.
