Daily Voices Regret over Arab Leaders' Silence on Trump's Insults to Muslims
TEHRAN (FNA)- A leading Arab daily referred to the recent tweets by US President Donald Trump against Muslims, and said the silence of the Arab states over his insults is a source of deep regret.
"Trump's racist move incites extremist groups, and the Arab countries' officials who are well aware of Trump's record of insulting Muslims have kept mum and welcome him and sign lucrative deals with the US every day," al-Ray al-Youm newspaper wrote on Saturday.
"The silence of certain Arab leaders, specially of the Persian Gulf littoral states, on Trump's racist and extremist approach which will pave the ground for the emergence of extremist groups and victimize the Muslims is regretful," it added.
The newspaper expressed surprise that certain Arab leaders welcome Trump's positions and accompany him in wars against Muslim people and justify them and gift him billions of dollars through investment or arms deals with Washington.
Trump retweeted a handful of anti-Muslim videos posted by the deputy leader of a British far-right group, prompting a rare condemnation of the US president by British Prime Minister Theresa May whose official spokesperson called Trump’s actions wrong.
Trump’s decision to share the tweets was labelled “abhorrent, dangerous and a threat to our country” by the British Labor party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, while several other members of parliament said his planned state visit should be cancelled.
