Russia: Airstrike may have killed Daesh leader
Russia's Defense Ministry says its airstrike may have killed Daesh leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in the Syrian city of Raqqah.

In a statement released on Friday, the ministry said it was seeking confirmation that the Takfiri leader was killed in its airstrike in the Syrian city of Raqqah in May.

The airstrike, carried out on May 28, targeted a meeting of Daesh leaders including Baghdadi whose real name is Ibrahim al-Samarrai.

"According to the information which is now being checked via various channels, Daesh leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was eliminated by the airstrike, was also present at the meeting," it said.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the airstrike killed 330 Daesh members, including 30 top leaders, who had gathered to discuss withdrawal from Raqqah, the terrorist group's de facto capital.

It said the military began planning the attack after getting information that Daesh leaders were going to gather for a meeting, sending drones to monitor the area. It then dispatched a group of Su-34 bombers and Su-35 fighter jets which hit the gathering.

The ministry said that among other Takfiri militants killed in the raid were Daesh leaders Abu al-Khadji al-Mysri, Ibrahim al-Naef al-Khadj and Suleiman al-Shauah.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia does not have 100% confirmation that Baghdadi was killed in the airstrike.

Baghdadi has not been seen in public since proclaiming himself "caliph" in the Iraqi city of Mosul three years ago. His group has earned global notoriety for the most horrible crimes, including beheadings.

The Iraqi-born most-wanted man has been rumored wounded or killed a number of times in the past.

The Russian military said the US was informed in advance about the place and time of the strike. The US said it could not confirm the Russian report that Baghdadi may have been killed.

It's news in RT-quoting the Dept of Defense; usually the Russians don't issue cheap statements.

TEHRAN (FNA)- ISIL terrorist group's Chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has likely been killed in an airstrike conducted by the Russian Air Force, well-informed sources reported according to regional media outlets.

The Russian Defense Ministry has said an investigation is underway to ascertain whether al-Baghdadi was killed in an airstrike conducted late last month, Khaama press reported.

According to a statement by the Russian defense ministry carried in reports by the local media outlets, al-Baghdadi was targeted along with at least 300 other insurgents and 30 top leaders of the terror group.

The statement further added that the airstrike was carried out on 28th May in Raqqa city.

The ISIL terrorist group has not commented regarding the reports so far.

This is not the first time reports have emerged regarding the death of the terror group’s leader which have proven as false.

This comes as earlier reports emerged suggesting that al-Baghdadi was critically injured in an airstrike.

Syria: Russia Monitoring Situation in Raqqa as ISIL Militants Leaving Northeastern City
TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of the Russian military forces in Syria Col. Gen. Sergei Surovikin said that his soldiers are closely monitoring the situation in Raqqa.

"The command of the Russian military group in the Syria is closely monitoring the situation in the area of Raqqa, where we observe the militants freely leaving the city and its suburbs," Surovikin added.

Local sources reported on Tuesday that ISIL was planning to announce Deir Ezzur city as its new capital in Syria after the US-backed Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) inked an agreement with the ISIL that allows militants' exit from Raqqa city without a battle.

The sources said that while the US and the SDF permitted ISIL terrorists to leave their capital city of Raqqa without clashes, the Takfiri terrorists were moving towards Deir Ezzur in groups.

In the meantime, the Russian-language Izvestia daily reported that the agreement between the SDF and ISIL on evacuation of terrorists from Raqqa caused intensified ISIL attacks on pro-government forces' positions in Deir Ezzur.
