FSA video claims Russian-made helicopter hit with US-made TOW missile near Su-24 crash site
The Russian General Staff confirmed that one of the Mi-8 helicopters taking part in the search and rescue operation for the pilots of the downed Russian Su-24 jet, has been damaged as a result of shelling.
A Russian marine was killed in the incident, while the rest of the crew and servicemen on board were evacuated to Russia’s Hmeymim Airbase in Syria, it said.
Two helicopters were participating in the search and rescue operation, the Russian General Staff added.
Reuters earlier reported that FSA fighters hit a Russian helicopter forcing it to make an emergency landing in a nearby government-held area in Syria's Latakia province.
The helicopter was said to have been searching for pilots of a Russian jet downed by Turkey earlier on Tuesday.
It is yet unclear who the helicopter was operated by - Syrian or Russian forces. But the rebels can be heard in the video saying they have hit a Syrian chopper.

According to Turkey's letter to the United Nation's Security Council regarding its shooting down of a Russian bomber, the Turkish military did not know the nationality of the plane.
"This morning (24 November) 2 Su-24 planes, the nationality of which are unknown have approached Turkish national airspace in Yayladaga/Hatay region," the letter reads, drafted for the UN Security Council by the Turkish Ambassador.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan defended the military's actions as being "fully in line with Turkey's rules of engagement," and claimed "all efforts to avoid" the incident had been made.
"We did not want this situation to happen, but everybody has to respect Turkey's right to defend its borders," Erdogan said after a security meeting.

Turkey will likely launch a "damage limitation exercise" after it shot down a Russian aircraft it claimed had violated Turkish airspace, Dr. Martin McCauley, a senior lecturer at the University of London and a Russian analyst, told Sputnik Radio.
The downing of the Russian Su-24M bomber by Turkish warplanes "appears absolutely unnecessary," McCauley said. He expects Ankara to start a "damage limitation exercise" in the face of international criticism over the attack.
"Because practically everyone will condemn them and say 'Why did you do this? Why was it necessary to shoot down this plane?'"
He suspects that the attack by Turkey, which is a NATO member, is an attempt by Ankara to bring the international organization deeper into the conflict in Syria.
Turkey has done little in the fight against the Islamic State, and has instead focused on its conflict with Kurdish separatists. The downing of the war plane, coupled with increasing links between Turkey and the Islamic State, will force Ankara to declare if it is committed to defeating Islamic State, McCauley said.
"I would see [Turkey] as basically playing a double game and hoping that NATO will come in and involve themselves more deeply in fighting ISIS. Because Turkey at present doesn't seem very, very keen to fight ISIS at all."

Speaking to Sputnik, Daniel McAdams of the Ron Paul Institute gives his impressions of the downing of a Russian bomber over Syria.
"This is very serious," he said.
In part, Turkey’s attack on a Russian plane targeting the self-proclaimed Islamic State terrorist group has highlighted Ankara’s own role of fomenting those radical groups.
"…Turkey has allowed itself to become a super-hotbed for ISIS and other jihadists to go back and forth from Syria into Turkey. We have pretty good evidence that ISIS and other extremists have been resupplied infinitely, possibly with weapons from Libya, another great US success story – and they have been striking inside Syria with that," McAdams said.
