Reports of Kiev’s involvement in sabotage are “a complement for our special forces,” but are not true, Ukraine’s defense minister says
Kiev had nothing to do with the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines, the Ukrainian defense minister has said in response to media reports blaming last September’s explosions in the Baltic Sea on a “pro-Ukraine” group.

“For me, it’s a little bit strange story,” Aleksey Reznikov replied when asked about the issue after his arrival at an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Stockholm on Wednesday.

“This story has nothing [to do] with us,” he said, expressing confidence that “the investigation [by] the official authorities will describe every detail” of what had happened.

The claims of Ukrainian involvement in the sabotage are “like a complement for our special forces, but this is not our activity,” the minister added.

Journalists asked Reznikov if he was concerned that the latest media reports could lead to a reduction in EU support for Kiev amid the conflict with Moscow. “No, I’m not concerned. Everything would be OK,” he said.

On Tuesday, the New York Times reported, citing US officials and unspecified new intelligence, that a “pro-Ukrainian group” may have been behind the September attack that disabled the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, which were built to deliver Russian gas to Europe via Germany. The US paper's anonymous sources stressed that “no American or British nationals were involved” in the sabotage.

A few hours later, several German outlets claimed the country’s investigators looking into the Nord Stream blasts had found that a yacht reportedly used in the attack belonged to a Polish-based firm, owned by two Ukrainians.

Kremlin press-secretary Dmitry Peskov described the reports in the US and German media as “a coordinated media hoax campaign,” aimed at diverting attention from the actual “masterminds” of the sabotage.

クレムリンのドミトリー・ペスコフ報道官は、米国とドイツのメディアの報道について、妨害行為の実際の「首謀者」から注意をそらすことを目的とした「メディアによる協調的なデマキャンペーン」であると述べた。

Chinese President Xi Jinping has publicly criticized the US and accused it of leading a Western attempt to “contain” his country. Foreign Minister Qin Gang also warned Washington to “hit the brakes” or risk “conflict and confrontation.”

“Western countries led by the United States have implemented all-round containment, encirclement and suppression of China, which has brought unprecedented severe challenges to our nation’s development,” Xi said in a rare verbal attack on Monday, as quoted by state media.

The Chinese leader was meeting with industry and business groups during an annual gathering of an advisory body to the Communist Party. His speech focused on the national economy, with the remark about Washington’s policy illustrating what he called “uncertain and unpredictable factors” in the international environment, which also included the Covid-19 pandemic.

Xi normally refrains from targeted criticism of the US. Michael Swaine, a senior research fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, told the New York Times that, to his knowledge, it was the first time the Chinese leader “has publicly come out and identified the US as taking such actions.”

Meanwhile, another senior Chinese official accused Washington of using underhanded tactics on Tuesday.

“The US claims that it seeks to out-compete China but does not seek conflict. Yet in reality, its so-called ‘competition’ means to contain and suppress China in all respects,” Foreign Minister Qin Gang said in a speech on the sidelines of an ongoing session of the Chinese legislature.

He compared the US government to an athlete trying to trip their opponent instead of giving its best performance. Washington wants Beijing not to push back when it is targeted by such action or slander, the minister suggested, adding that this was not possible. The US trajectory could lead to a disaster that no guardrails would be able to prevent, he warned.

“If the US does not hit the brakes, but continues to speed down the wrong path, no amount of guardrails can prevent derailing and there will surely be conflict and confrontation,” said Qin, who previously served as the Chinese ambassador to the US.

Washington has accused Beijing of undermining a “rules-based order” with its policies and imposed a number of economic restrictions, including last year’s ban on exporting certain semiconductors to the country. Tensions escalated further last month after Washington accused the country of flying a “spy balloon” over American soil, which China said was just a stray weather aircraft.

超過死亡はコロナ感染による、それともワクチンの影響？

1月に全国的に死亡数が激増しましたが、2月については船橋市の発表を見ると前年同月より減少しています。コロナに限らず全死因です。他の地域でも同じような傾向になることが期待されます。


船橋市については、コロナ感染者も大きく減少しています。全数把握ではないものの、感染者数はこのところ一服しているものとみられます。

しかし、管理人の知人の縁者に急死する方が出てしまいました。関係者はコロナの後遺症を疑っています。

超過死亡の一人とならないため、やはり、感染防止です。船橋市の例でみるとコロナ感染が原因とされる事例では、高齢者が呼吸器疾患以外の疾患で亡くなっています。

中国では、ゼロコロナ政策の変更とともに死亡者が激増しましたが、大きな山を作ってその後は落ち着いているようです。中国の死亡者急増は、コロナ感染拡大の影響です。

日本の場合、感染者よりもワクチン接種者のほうがけた違いに多いので、一定の時間を経過してワクチン後遺症で亡くなっている人が多いのであれば、この先、前年比較でみた超過死亡者数は増えていくか、高水準で推移するでしょう。

管理人は、ある程度心の備えが必要なのだろうと、思うようになっています。

サウジアラビア、欧州・アジア向け原油価格を値上げ

Saudi Arabia hikes oil prices for Europe and Asia
The move comes as the world’s top exporter of crude sees growing demand
Saudi Arabian energy giant Aramco has announced it will raise its shipping prices for Asia and Europe for April as it sees demand there picking up.

Aramco revealed on Sunday that prices for its flagship Arab Light crude will rise up to $2.50 a barrel above the regional benchmark, which is 50 cents more than the level for March. The official selling price for Arab Heavy, a medium sour crude containing more sulphur than Arab Light, will be raised by $2.50 a barrel from March.

It’s the second month in a row that the world’s largest oil company has increased prices for its biggest market, Asia. Aramco sells around 60% of its crude shipments to the continent, most of them under long-term contracts, pricing for which is reviewed every month.

The Saudi producer also said that prices for North-West Europe and the Mediterranean will be hiked by as much as $1.30 a barrel while those for US customers will be left unchanged.

“The demand from China is very strong,” Aramco’s chief executive officer Amin Nasser told Bloomberg last week, adding that demand is also “excellent” in Europe and the US.

China has been ramping up crude purchases just as the country is rapidly recovering from Covid restrictions. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), recovering Chinese consumption will be the main driver in the growth of global oil demand this year, which it expects to rise to 101.9 million barrels per day (bpd).

Meanwhile, the OPEC+ group of major oil-producing nations, led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, has recently suggested it will not increase production until at least next year. Russia announced earlier that it would cut oil production by 500,000 bpd starting March, in response to Western sanctions and price cap on its crude.

Oil prices started the week in decline, with benchmark Brent down slightly on Tuesday around $85 a barrel. US West Texas Intermediate crude was also trading lower, below $80 per barrel.
