Ukraine’s SBU suspects former agency colonel of plotting to murder one of its generals

Russia doesn’t believe that a Ukraine peace proposal, which the Italian government reportedly shared with Kiev and Western allies, could be a viable solution to the ongoing crisis, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said in an interview with RT Arabic.

The document does not appear to be the potential breakthrough that some Italian officials claim it to be, Lavrov said. Italian Foreign Minister “Luigi Di Maio has been active in the media promoting the Italian four-point initiative. But we only read about it,” The foreign minister explained, referring to the fact that Italy apparently wouldn’t officially share its idea with Russia.

If judged by what the media said about the proposal, it makes Moscow “pity the lack of comprehension by its author of what is going on and their lack of knowledge of the subject and the history of the issue,” Russia’s top diplomat said.
The most glaring part is that the Italian proposal reportedly envisions the future of Crimea and Donbass as autonomous parts of Ukraine, he said. Russia reabsorbed Crimea in 2014, after the region’s population voted in a referendum for it to happen. Moscow recognized the People’s Donetsk and Lugansk republics as independent states days before launching its offensive in Ukraine.
“A serious politician that wants results as opposed to self-promotion before the voters simply cannot propose such things,” Lavrov told RT.

Russia responds to Zelensky’s call for talks

A veiled appeal by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for direct peace talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin contradicts Kiev’s decision to freeze all negotiations with Moscow, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out on Friday. Then again, the Ukrainian government has a habit of taking positions that contradict each other, he added.

Zelensky said he had wanted to negotiate with Putin on multiple occasions both before and after Russia attacked his country. One of the recent remarks of that nature came this week on a video call during a working breakfast of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The Ukrainian president said Putin was the only Russian official worth talking to, dismissing the rest of the Russian government as “nobodies.” Putin himself is delusional, Zelensky claimed, but “if he is able to realize” what the Ukrainian leader called the reality, “then, probably, we may try and go the diplomatic way, unless it is too late.”

When asked for comments about the remarks, Peskov said Moscow didn’t believe Kiev was willing to negotiate peace.

“The talks have been frozen after a decision by and in accordance with the stance of the Ukrainian side,” he said.

“The Ukrainian leadership constantly makes statements that contradict each other, which makes it impossible to fully understand its intentions and whether it is ready to take a sober approach and acknowledge the real state of affairs,” he added.

Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials have been repeatedly stating that their forces were winning the fight against Russia and that the only question was how long it would take for Kiev to prevail and at what cost. The Ukrainian president previously said talks with Russia would only be possible after Ukraine returns control over all territories it lost during the three-month-long Russian campaign. Kiev also wants Crimea to be returned after the hostilities are over.

However, the Ukrainian side suffered several military defeats this month, and the president’s office has been struggling to contain the negative publicity as a result. For example, the surrender of hundreds of Ukrainian troops in Mariupol was described by Kiev as an “evacuation” that Ukrainian intelligence agents supposedly helped organize.

This week, Russian troops took control of Liman, a strategically important town in Donbass. Even Zelensky’s advisers acknowledged that the situation on the ground was playing out poorly for Ukraine.

Putin, in a telephone conversation with Macron and Scholz, stressed the danger of pumping Ukraine with Western weapons, the Kremlin press service said.

"The Russian President also highlighted the issue of dangerous ongoing pumping of Ukraine with Western weapons, warning of the risks of further destabilization of the situation and aggravation of the humanitarian crisis," the statement said.
Problems with food

Problems with food supplies were caused by anti-Russian sanctions and other mistakes of the West, Russian President said in a telephone conversation, the press service reported.

"Based on specific data, Vladimir Putin explained the real reasons for the difficulties with food supplies, which were the result of the misguided economic and financial policies of Western countries, as well as the anti-Russian sanctions they imposed," the statement said.

The Kremlin noted, "Russia is ready to help find options for unhampered exports of grain, including exports of Ukrainian grain from the Black Sea ports". "Increasing supplies of Russian fertilizers and agricultural products will also help reduce tension on the global food market, which, of course, would require removing the relevant restrictions," the statement said.

"The leaders agreed to continue contacts," the Kremlin said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said earlier, the global food crisis happened long before the start of the military operation in Ukraine, due to factors such as the pandemic, and miscalculations of Western countries. At the same time, Lavrov added that the current situation has exacerbated the problem, and Western sanctions have become one of the key reasons for the disruption of food supplies, which worsened the crisis.


Western allies meeting regularly to game out potential framework for Ukraine ceasefire as war hits 100th day
Washington (CNN)Staring down the prospect of an extended stalemate in Ukraine, the US and its allies are placing a renewed emphasis on the need for a negotiated settlement to end the war as the conflict grinds into its 100th day with no clear victory in sight for either side.
US officials have in recent weeks been meeting regularly with their British and European counterparts to discuss potential frameworks for a ceasefire and for ending the war through a negotiated settlement, multiple sources familiar with the talks told CNN. Among the topics has been a four-point framework proposed by Italy late last month. That framework involves Ukraine committing to neutrality with regard to NATO in exchange for some security guarantees, and negotiations between Ukraine and Russia on the future of Crimea and the Donbas region.
Ukraine is not directly involved in those discussions, despite the US commitment to "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine." US and Ukrainian officials said the US has not been pressuring Ukraine to commit to a certain plan or directly pushing them to sit down with the Russians.

Still, there is some confusion about what kind of framework the US would consider appropriate to bring to the Ukrainians for further discussion.

US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas Greenfield told reporters earlier this week that the Italian framework is "one of those initiatives that we certainly would love to see bring a conclusion to this horrific war and the horrific attacks on the Ukrainian people." But two US officials told CNN that the US actually does not support the Italian proposal.
In any case, US and western officials tell CNN that there is a growing concern that if the Russians and Ukrainians don't get back to the table and work out a deal, the war will drag on -- potentially for years.

Hawks in Washington continue to press Joe Biden to get even more deeply involved in the war in Ukraine. They want more military equipment for Kiev and more maximalist military and political objectives, which range from pushing Russia entirely out of Ukraine, to carving up Russia, to the removal of President Putin himself. They’re right that Russia should lose the war and that Ukraine should win it. But they’re wrong about how to get there.

Ukrainian and Russian forces are now in a slow, grinding war. Both have taken major losses, but Ukrainian casualties have been especially high. In the coming weeks, Russia might consolidate its position in the eastern Donbas region, Ukraine might scrape back a little more territory, or the fighting might come to a halt.

I am tempted to hope that Ukraine will fight on at least until it retakes its February borders, and perhaps beyond, regaining all the territory it lost back in the 2014 war. But the former intelligence analyst in me sees risks all around. In the best circumstances, regaining significant amounts of territory will almost certainly require a long and protracted fight. Risk of escalation would be ever-present. Costs to America and Europe would mount.

人口600万人のトルクメニスタンで大統領が父子で交代。新大統領は40歳、就任後初の外国公式訪問でモスクワを訪れています。
人口では小国ですが国土面積は広く、経済的にも天然ガスの輸出で潤っています。
トルクメニスタンは、永世中立国を掲げていますが、侵略されればひとたまりもないでしょう。カザフスタンの暴動時にも中央アジア諸国と同じ動きは示しませんでした。イランとは経済面の協力協定を結んでいますが、今の情勢の中で頼るべきはロシアということではないでしょうか。

ロシアとしても、一カ国でも多く味方につけておきたいところです。トルクメニスタンは、アフガニスタンの外交団を受け入れたとの情報もあります。

Kiev forces are almost out of ammunition and can only rely on Western-supplied arms in the battle against Russia, a top Ukrainian intelligence official has said.

Ukrainian troops are currently firing 5,000 to 6,000 artillery rounds a day, and their stockpiles are running out fast, the intelligence official said. “We have almost used up all of our [artillery] ammunition and are now using 155-caliber NATO standard shells,” he said.

Kiev is also severely outgunned in the Donbass, having almost run out of the Soviet- and Russia-designed artillery pieces it had at the start of Moscow’s military operation, according to Skibitsky. “Ukraine has one artillery piece to 10 to 15 Russian artillery pieces,” he pointed out.

“Everything now depends on what [the West] gives us,” the intelligence official said. “Our Western partners have given us about 10% of what they have.”

Skibitsky also called upon Kiev’s foreign backers to supply long-range rocket systems that could destroy Russian artillery pieces from afar.

The US and its allies have been reluctant to provide Ukraine with this type of weaponry over concerns that it could cause a direct conflict between Russia and NATO.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that if Kiev eventually obtains long-range missiles, “we will draw the appropriate conclusions and use our weapons, which we have enough of, in order to strike at those objects that we have not yet struck.”

Ukraine needed the West to supply as many as 300 multiple rocket launch systems to level the playing field in the Donbass, Mikhail Podolyak, an aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, insisted on Thursday.

Earlier this week, the Russian Defense Ministry said that 3,443 Ukrainian tanks and other armored vehicles of Ukraine, 1,807 field artillery pieces and mortars, 1,139 drones, 478 multiple rocket launchers, 190 aircraft and 129 helicopters have been destroyed since the launch of the military operation.

金融市場は今の状況をどう見ている？

以前の記事のフォローアップ。

6/10の米国株式は、ダウが880ドルの下落で引けています。2日で1400ドルの下落ですが、もともと米国株式はバブルとの指摘もありました。

2020年の春の下落に比較すればまだ水準は高く、下落幅も小さいです。 スタグフレーションの始まりならこの先さらに下がるのは確実となりましょう。


ウクライナ戦争の停戦、経済制裁の解除に進まなければ株価の下落は止まらないでしょう。もともとコロナによる経済活動の乱調もあります。

米国財務長官は、石油価格の上昇を止めるためロシア産石油の輸入カルテルを作る考えを示していますが、そんなカルテルに参加するのは、欧米など限られた国です。

6/10、日本株の大幅下落に続いて、欧州でも軒並み大きめに下落。日本株の時間外の先物、米国の先物も下落です。ユーロが対ドルで安くなっています。国際金融秩序の調整、変革はもう始まったのかもしれません。

6/10の米国株式は、500ドル安で始まり、30分で600ドル強安まで下げました。700ドル下げるか800ドル下げるかという感じです。
取引開始から1時間で800ドル下落です。千ドル下げるか。

日本の為替関係当局が会合し、円安けん制の声明文を出したそうです。日銀が買い込んだ日本株を処分するには、現状程度の円安で企業収益が改善したくらいでは株価の上昇は不足。インフレが強まり物価が20％、30％と上がり、それに応じて株価が水準訂正するのを待っているはずだと思いますが、どうでしょう。

米国株式は800ドル安を底に反転していますが、この先、物価上昇とともに下落する可能性が強いですね。取引開始から2時間でまた800ドル安まで下げています。

6/9の米国株式は、ダウが600ドル強の下落で引けています。スタグフレーションの懸念が強まっているとのこと。日本の家計の投資促進はどうする？　円安は放置なら海外資産に投資促進でないとリスクが大きい。日銀のETF購入再開は？　ウクライナ停戦があれば、プラスインパクトで株価上昇になるはずですが、インフレの終息はそれだけでは済まない。

日本株は大きく下落。一時400円以上下げました。大きく下落して引けるでしょう。

2022/6/9、円安がさらに進行、134円を超えてきました。前日の米国株はダウが270ドルほどの下落。企業収益と景気に対する懸念が強まっているとの見方があります。日本では、政府の投資促進策が証券界から歓迎されているようです。日銀の円安政策の終わりとともに日本株の戻りは終わるのかもしれません。

2022/6/8、日本株が続伸、日経平均が28,200円を超えてきました。円安で外国人から見れば日本株は割安。為替反転の期待も込めて買っている向きがある？　そうだとすると、為替の動きによっては反落することになりそうです。ドル円は133円台。

2022/6/7日中、132円台半ばまで円安が進行。そのためか米国株式が軟調推移にも関わらず、日本株は上げています。ウクライナ停戦が近いかとみられる情報が流れていますが、米国の市場は先物ではそれに応えていません。

6/7の米国市場は、200ドル弱の下落で始まっています。欧州も安い。6/8朝の引けは、ダウが264ドルの上昇。動きが激しいです。

2022/6/3の米国市場は、予想に反して350ドルの下落となりました。しかし、6/4の日本株市場は、寄り付きは下げて始まったものの、上昇に転じました。米株の先物が少し上げています。

ウクライナ政権に指示を出す米国政権がどう動くか。米国の供与するロケット砲が戦線の拡大を招くことが危惧されますが、ロシアは欧米から搬入された武器をピンポイントで叩く作戦を強めています。キエフの車両修理工場の爆撃では、何か所もから煙が上がりましたが、死傷者は少なく、負傷者1名と伝えられています。

ロシア軍の精緻な作戦が本領発揮です。ウクライナ戦争の終結は近いと市場は見ているようです。

2022/6/3は5/30に続いて日本株市場が大きく動きました。前日夜から先物が動いていましたが6/3の朝には日経平均が350円ほどの上昇。米国ダウも、400ドル以上上げて引けています。何が原因？　

米国は、金利引き上げのペースで様々な憶測が出ていますが、特に決定的な動きが出たわけでもないようです。日本株は、円安が進み、入国する外国人の数が増やされ、マスクを外そうとの運動が展開され、小売り業態で売り上げ回復の動きがみられることが材料でしょうか。

しかし、米国の株式が上げているのは単に金利動向の見通しだけではないでしょう。日本のインバウンドだって中国人がオミクロン蔓延の日本に大挙して押し寄せるとは考えにくい。

やはり、ウクライナ戦争とそれに伴う経済制裁による実体経済への悪影響が緩和されるという期待が出ているのではないでしょうか。



ウクライナ戦争で景況感は著しく悪化し、3月初めには大きく下落しました。そこからの回復過程にありますから、ウクライナ戦争と経済制裁の影響が相場の決定的な要因になっていることは間違いない。

市場評論家は、この点については触れることはまずありませんが、ウクライナ戦争の現状やこの先の展開について大手メディアの情報に頼っていたら、間違ってしまいます。

市場評論家の解説は、肝心のポイントの考慮が不足です。自分で確かめようとしたら大変な手間がかかる。情報収集に手間がかけられない人は、相場に向きません。もともと株式で儲けるにはインサイダー情報もしくはそれに近い情報がないと無理というのが管理人の考えです。

少なくとも日本株については、長期に保有すれば確実に利益が得られるというものではなくなっています。

でしょうか。

ミリーはこれまでの発言からは比較的堅実に見えます。参謀総長レベルでの会談は特に注目されます。

外交的交渉に重点が移るとの観測もあり、ウクライナ戦争の終結を視野に入れた動きが始まる可能性があります。

すでに麻薬中毒のゼレンスキーを使ったロシア攻撃戦略は限界でしょう。ウクライナの政権は軍の内部でも不服従の部隊が続出しており、国民の支持を失っています。

すくに完全停戦に至るとは思いませんが、少なくとも良い方向での動きになる可能性があります。

この10年の累積アクセス数6千万ページビュー

このブログは、2011年から放射能問題、2015年から並行してシリアISIS問題、2021年から新コロナウィルス、そして2022年からウクライナ問題に重点を置いて書いてきました。

テーマの変遷に連れてアクセス数は大きく減っていますが、2013/1以来の累積アクセス数が6千万ページビューになりました。

このブログは、最近「絶望的な不快感」のブログになっているとの評があります。

そうでしょう、書いている本人が楽しくないし、苦痛を感じているのです。

そもそもこのブログは管理人の備忘録です。

ただ、最近心掛けているのは、若い方に読んでもらって、こんなことを言っている人もいるということを頭の隅に置いてもらえれば幸いだということです。

突然、世界情勢が大きく動き、それまで読んだこともない、考えたことすらない事態になった場合に、そういえば、こんな話をどこかで読んだなあ、と思い出してもらうだけで十分なのです。まったく夢想もしなかった予備知識ゼロの状態と、1や2程度でも何かの予備知識があるのとでは、立ち上がりの速さが違ってくるはずです。

そして希望としては、海外の情報に自分で当たり、自分で情報の取捨選択ができるようになってほしい。その目を養ってもらいたいのです。

Small cancer drug trial sees all 12 rectal cancer patients completely cured

Every rectal cancer patient in a small clinical drug trial conducted by New York’s Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has seen their cancer go into remission after receiving an experimental immunotherapy treatment. The findings were published by researchers in the New England Journal of Medicine on June 5th.

One of the participants in the trial, Sascha Roth, told the New York Times that she was preparing to travel to Manhattan for weeks of radiation therapy when the results from Memorial Sloan Kettering came in, informing her that she was now cancer-free.

“I told my family. They didn’t believe me,” said Roth.

The same thing happened for the other patients who took part in the trial, as the cancer seemed to have vanished in every single one of them and was undetectable by a physical exam, endoscopy, PET, or MRI scans.

One of the authors of the paper detailing the trial, Dr. Luis A. Diaz Jr. of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, told the NYT that he knew of no other study in which a treatment completely obliterated a cancer in every patient.

“I believe this is the first time this has happened in the history of cancer,” he said.

All of the patients had locally advanced rectal cancer - which means that tumors had spread in the rectum and sometimes to the lymph nodes but not to other organs – as well as a rare genetic mutation called mismatch repair deficiency (MMRd).

They were given six months of treatment with an immunotherapy drug called Dostarlimab, from the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, which helped fund the research. The drug reportedly costs about $11,000 per dose and was administered to each patient every three weeks for six months.

As explained by CBS News medical contributor Dr. David Agus, the drug works by exposing cancer cells so the immune system can identify and destroy them. “This new treatment is a type of immunotherapy, a treatment that blocks the ‘don't eat me’ signal on cancer cells enabling the immune system to eliminate them,” he said.

The trial patients continued to show no signs of cancer even after six or more months of follow ups, which meant that they no longer needed standard cancer treatments such as surgery, radiation or chemotherapy. The cancer has reportedly not returned in any of the patients, who have now been cancer-free for a range of six to 25 months after the trial ended.

Intelligence-gathering has been complicated by cloudy weather in Ukraine, limiting the effectiveness of satellites for surveilling Ukrainian troops.

"Ukraine's secrecy has forced US military and intelligence officials to try and learn what they can from other countries operating in Ukraine, training sessions with Ukrainians and [from Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky's public comments," the NYT cited its sources as saying.

Ukraine will resume grain exports only when its own security is ensured, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexey Danilov said on Tuesday as the Russian military offensive continues in his country.

Speaking on national TV, Danilov recalled a statement by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs “which clearly said that the first issue is security, the second issue is security, the third issue is security.”

“If this issue is not resolved, and the security of our country is not ensured, no grain will go anywhere. Because for us the issue of security is the number one priority,” Danilov stated, without specifying what exactly he meant by the term “security.”

Production of wheat and other grains in the European Union is expected to fall this year, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing a survey by agriculture consulting firm Strategie Grains, published on Thursday. A bad harvest in the EU could further pressure grain markets, it said.

According to the survey, the EU is expected to produce almost 5% less wheat this year compared with 2021. It was also forecast to produce 278.8 million metric tons of all grains in the 2022-2023 growing season, down over 4% from last year, because of the dry weather.
