Health Min.: UAE Trying to Spread COVID-19 into Yemen
TEHRAN (FNA)- Yemeni Health Minister Taha Al-Mutawakkil revealed that the Emirati government is trying to worsen the misery of the Yemenis with a plot to send coronavirus patients to the poor country.

In a local event on Saturday, Al-Mutawakkil slammed UAE’s plots to infect Yemenis with the novel coronavirus, Covid-19.

He said that UAE is planning to send a number of COVID-19 suspected patients to Yemen’s Mocha and Aden, reported Almasirah.

He called on international bodies to prevent the realization of such plots. The Minister also noted that there are no confirmed cases of the virus in the country.

Starting in China’s Wuhan in Dec. 2019, the novel coronavirus is now spreading throughout the world with more than 60 countries confirming cases. The virus is also active in the Middle East as is it has been reported in Iran, UAE, and Bahrain among others.

Meanwhile, fears are growing about the aftermath of the outbreak of the disease in Yemen which is being under the aggression of the Saudi-led coalition since March 2015 which has damaged its infrastructure including those related to public health.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 100,000 lives over the past nearly five years.

Saudi Arabia and a coalition of its vassal states launched the war on Yemen in March 2015 in an attempt to reinstall a Riyadh-backed former regime and eliminate the popular Houthis who have been defending the impoverished country against the offensive.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have purchased billions of dollars' worth of weapons from the United States, France and the United Kingdom in the war on Yemen.

The Saudi-led coalition has been widely criticized for the high civilian death toll from its bombing campaign. The alliance has carried out nearly 20,500 air raids in Yemen, according to the data collected by the Yemen Data Project.

The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.

The Saudi military aggression, coupled with a naval blockade, has killed and injured hundreds of thousands of people, and plunged Yemen into what the UN says the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

California confirms first possible 'community transmission' of coronavirus as China reports fewest new fatalities in a month
California health officials have detected what may be the first local transmission of the deadly COVID-19 virus in the US – with no known ties to other confirmed cases – as China reported the lowest number of new deaths in weeks.

Adding 29 fatalities to the nearly 2,800 already killed by the lethal pathogen, the latest figures from Chinese authorities mark a sharp decline in daily deaths, even as fears of the illness peak in the US, where the first suspected “community transmission” was reported late on Wednesday.

“The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] today confirmed a possible first case of person-to-person transmission of COVID-19 in California in the general public,” the California Department of Public Health said in a statement.

The individual had no known exposure to the virus through travel or close contact with a known infected individual.

Two other American patients who had been confirmed to have contracted the virus while in the US both came in contact with individuals who had recently visited China – where the outbreak was first observed – or those already known to have the virus, according to the CDC. The newest case in California, an individual from Solano County, has had no such close contacts.

The patient, who has yet to be identified, is now receiving treatment at a facility in Sacramento.

In a press conference earlier on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump assured that stringent measures were in place to prevent further spread of the illness, stating that “whatever happens, we’re totally prepared,” and that a full-blown outbreak in the country was not “inevitable.”

The president’s comments contrast with a recent statement from the CDC, which warned that the virus could cause “severe” disruptions to daily life in the US, adding that it was “not so much a question of if this will happen any more, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen.”

To date, 60 Americans have contracted the illness, among over 82,000 cases worldwide, the majority in mainland China. The virus has claimed more than 2,700 lives in total, so far none of them in the US.
