‘Your courage is inspiring!’ Trump tweets in FARSI, backing Iranian protesters against Tehran govt
US President Donald Trump has appealed directly to the protesters in the streets of Iran, wading into the grief and fueling anti-government discontent, after Tehran admitted to have accidentally shot down a Ukrainian jet.

“To the brave, long-suffering people of Iran: I've stood with you since the beginning of my Presidency, and my Administration will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely, and are inspired by your courage,” Trump wrote both in English and Farsi, addressing the protesters in Iran.

“The world is watching,” Trump said in a separate tweet, warning the government of Iran against “another massacre of peaceful protesters” and demanding it “allow human rights groups to monitor and report facts from the ground.”

State Secretary Mike Pompeo’s meddling in Iran’s affairs was even more blatant, stopping just short of an open call for a regime change. “The voice of the Iranian people is clear,” Pompeo stated, tweeting out footage of the protest in Iran.

Secretary Pompeo@SecPompeo
The voice of the Iranian people is clear. They are fed up with the regime’s lies, corruption, ineptitude, and brutality of the IRGC under @khamenei_ir's kleptocracy. We stand with the Iranian people who deserve a better future.

Earlier on Saturday, British ambassador to Iran, Rob Macaire, was briefly detained outside of Amirkabir University in Tehran over his alleged role in ‘inciting and directing’ anti-government protesters. The UK Foreign Office called it a “flagrant violation of international law,” insisting that Macaire was detained without any "grounds or explanation.”

The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces admitted that Flight 752 was shot down on Wednesday due to human error, on the day that Tehran was responding to the US assassination of General Qassem Soleimani.

Offering his condolences to the victims’ families, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani apologized for the "disastrous mistake" on behalf of Iran, fully acknowledging that the tragedy was caused by the erroneous actions of his country’s military.

Merkel and Putin agree Iran nuclear deal should be preserved by all means
President Vladimir Putin and Chancellor Angela Merkel have agreed that preserving the Iran nuclear deal is a matter of “tremendous importance” stressing that the agreement should be kept by all means necessary.

Both leaders believe that the 2015agreement, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), still can and should be preserved, despite the latest spike in tensions sparked by the US assassination of a top Iranian general.

Speaking to journalists in Moscow following her meeting with Putin, Merkel said that “everything must be done to keep the JCPOA going” and vowed to use “all the diplomatic tools to help this agreement.”

It is not perfect but it is still an agreement and it involves responsibilities for all the parties involved. And we want to keep it.

Putin also described the deal as “tremendously important” and said that both Moscow and Berlin agree that all parties need to “come back to the deal.”

After the US refused to abide by the agreement, Iran announced suspension of its obligations as well. I would like to underscore that these obligations were voluntarily embraced by Iran. Iran is ready to come back to full compliance with the JCPOA.

Iran has rolled back all the restrictions it had committed-to under the 2015 nuclear deal, following the US assassination of Quds Force commander Major General Qassem Soleimani, as well as a barrage of crippling sanctions imposed by Washington after America itself left the agreement.

Putin further expressed hope that a special-purpose vehicle called INSTEX Europe, created to facilitate trade with Iran and circumvent US sanctions, would soon “be up and running” and that European nations “would deliver on their promise to create an independent mechanism free of the dollar influence.”

So far, Europe’s endeavors in this area have not been particularly successful. The mechanism was originally created in early 2019, but was apparently limited to what the European nations called high-priority “humanitarian goods,” such as food and medical supplies. Meanwhile, European companies have been in no rush to trade with Iran, out of fear of losing the American market as a result of possible sanctions.

I appologise and regret for conveying such wrong findings.

Russian Lawmaker: Iran Acted With Dignity by Pleading Guilty in Ukrainian Plane Crash
The first deputy head of the Russian upper house's international affairs committee, Vladimir Dzhabarov, said that Iran acted honourably by officially admitting guilt in the Ukrainian plane crash.
“Now Iran would have to apologize officially and pay compensations to the victims’ families. Western propaganda will crack down on the country, pointing to its guilt and Iran’s danger", Dzhabarov said.

Why is it that all the senior members of Iran’s govt can admit when a mistake has been made, but US govt officials can’t? They would never admit anything like this in a million years, and they’ve never admitted that the US Navy was at fault for shooting down Iran Air Flight 655.

So you shouldn’t. Nor should anyone. The first assumption should always be that the US government is lying, until there is verifiable and conclusive evidence that demonstrates otherwise.

Pompeo Says US Had No Information on Date, Place of Possible Attack Allegedly Planned by Soleimani

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on national broadcast the United States possessed no information about the date and place of an alleged attack by assassinated Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

・・・・・

US President Donald Trump claimed earlier that Washington had eliminated the Iranian top military commander to halt Iranian plans to blow up the US Embassy in Baghdad.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on national broadcast that the United States possessed no information about the date and place of an alleged attack planned by assassinated Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

Pompeo still insisted that Soleimani was going to conduct "imminent attacks".

"We don't know precisely when - and we don't know precisely where. But it was real ... There was a real opportunity here and there was a real necessity here. We made the right decision. The president made the right call", Pompeo told Fox News.

On 3 January, IRGC Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani was killed in the US targeted drone attack on the Baghdadi International Airport. Washington said that Soleimani was planning to attack US personnel and that by eliminating him "a lot of lives were saved".

Earlier, the US designated Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force as a terrorist organisation.

Iran retaliated for its killed commander with a missile attack that targeted US military facilities in Iraq. The attack was dubbed Operation Martyr Soleimani and hit the al-Assad base in western Iraq and American facilities in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan. No US personnel were injured in the attack, President Trump said in his Wednesday address to the nation.

Soleimani was a highly respected figure in Iranian politics and was praised for combating a wide range of terrorist groups in the region, including Daesh*. He was also given credit for being an "architect" of the entire Iranian security structure.
