トランプが開き直って“We’ve stayed back and kept the oil,” と述べました。

Speaker: Trump Exposing Bare Ugly Face of US
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that US President Donald Trump is explicitly stating the lines of Washington’s malevolent foreign policy, adding that the “real and ugly face” of the White House is now conspicuously disclosed.

Speaking at a Parliament session this morning, Larijani said that Trump’s penchant for disclosing the most covert policies of the White House has revealed the “real and ugly face” of the US.

Fortunately, the US today has a president in office who is perfectly showing the real and ugly face of the White House policies, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said at a Parliament session on Sunday.

“Explicitly stating the most covert policies of the White House is one of Trump’s characteristics,” he noted.

“Most recently, when announcing the death of the ISIL chieftain, Trump said the US is in Syria only for its oil…oil is the only important thing [to them]. The conflict between the Kurds and Turkey means nothing to them,” Larijani went on to add.

“Just as the Kurds and the Turks mean nothing to them, and the oil is the only important thing to them, the Iranian nation is of no importance to the American government, either,” Larijani stressed.

“Since the US has no means for a military dominion over Iran, it is trying to undermine the country through an economic blockade in a bid to gain dominance over our oil and gas,” he added.

“Recently, the American regime has been trying to inflict a different kind of chaos over our region to guarantee the fulfillment of its sinister plots in case its plans for gaining dominion over oil failed,” Larijani said, adding, “But the regional people will give a strong response to this new plot.”

Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn on Friday, US President Donald Trump reiterated the US’s lack of interest in patrolling the Syrian-Turkish border, stressing that Washington’s main interest was in controlling the country’s oil.

“The ceasefire has held very nicely. We’ve kept the oil. We’ve stayed back and kept the oil. Other people can patrol the border of Syria, frankly, and Turkey, let them - they’ve been fighting for a thousand years, let them do the border, we don’t want to do that," Trump said.

"We want to bring our soldiers home. But we did leave soldiers because we’re keeping the oil. I like oil. We’re keeping the oil,” he noted.

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper has also confirmed that the US plans to continue controlling Syria’s oil fields, and to prevent them from falling into the hands of terrorists or “other actors”.

“The mission is, as I’ve spoken to and I’ve conveyed it to the commander, and that is, we will secure oil fields to deny their access to ISIL and other actors in the region, and to ensure that the [Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces] has continued access, because those resources are – are important, and so that the SDF – can do its mission, what it needs to do in the region,” Esper stated, speaking to reporters on Thursday after meeting with Australian Minister for Defense Linda Reynolds.

Prior to his Friday comments, Trump had repeatedly referred to the need to secure and hold Syria’s oil resources. He has repeatedly criticized US foreign policy during the 2016 campaign, and even during his days a private citizen. In 2011, Trump urged the Barack Obama administration to keep troops in Iraq and “keep the oil”. In 2016, he reiterated the need to “take the oil” in Iraq, saying the move would be “reimbursing ourselves”, and “not stealing”.

こんなこと許されるわけがない シリアでの米軍石油盗掘問題

米国国防長官エスパーはあまりに傲慢。次のように述べています。
US Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who said the purpose of keeping the troops in Syria is to “deny access to [IS] and any other groups that may want to seek that revenue to enable their own malign activities.

‘I like oil!’ Trump reaffirms predatory intentions in Syria as Assad calls him ‘best’ US leader for honesty
Donald Trump is not trying to hide Washington’s true policies and intentions behind the doublespeak about freedom and democracy – and that makes him arguably the best US leader, Syrian President Bashar Assad has admitted.

“We’ve stayed back and kept the oil,” Trump reiterated on Friday, reaffirming the main US interest in Syria and making clear that all less immediately lucrative and longer-term endeavors like keeping peace and reconstructing the devastated country should be taken care of by someone else. “Other people can patrol the border of Syria... let them – they’ve been fighting for a thousand years...”

Trump’s remarkably blunt approach was even commended by Syria’s Assad, who sarcastically noted in a recent interview that American Nobel peace prize laureate presidents always pose as the “defenders of human rights and noble and unique American values” but rarely admit to simply being “criminals who represent the interests of American lobbies.”

He is the best American President, not because his policies are good, but because he is the most transparent president… What can be better than an honest enemy?

While giving Trump credit for not mincing words declaring “we need oil,”“we want to get rid of someone,” or “we want to exchange favours for money,” Assad noted that the crumbled moral high ground façade only revealed what’s always been there.

This is the reality of American policy... All American presidents perpetrate all kinds of political atrocities and crimes…

Oil fields in the Deir ez-Zor governorate, east of the River Euphrates, were captured by US-backed Kurdish militias as they advanced on Islamic State terrorist forces. After pulling its ‘advisers’ back from the Syrian-Turkish border, Washington makes no secret of the fact that it keeps an illegal military presence in the area in order to deny Damascus access to its natural resources.

According to Russia’s estimates, each month the US smuggles crude worth $30 million out of Syria – not only in violation of international law but, ironically, also in breach of its own unilateral sanctions against the war-ravaged state.

‘I Like Oil, We’re Keeping Oil’: Trump Confirms US Wants Syria’s Oil, Not to Patrol Its Borders
TEHRAN (FNA)- US President Donald Trump reiterated the US’s lack of interest in patrolling the Syrian-Turkish border, stressing that Washington’s main interest was in controlling the country’s oil.

“The ceasefire has held very nicely. We’ve kept the oil. We’ve stayed back and kept the oil. US smuggles crude worth $30mn per month from occupied Syrian oil fields, violating its own sanctions – Russian Foreign Ministry
A supposed champion of the rule of law, the US is violating its own anti-Syrian sanctions by smuggling crude from oil fields it seized from Damascus, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakarova has said.

Each month the US smuggles crude worth $30 million out of Syria, according to Zakarova. The fuel comes from fields in the northeastern part of the country, where the US maintains a military presence after pulling its troops back from the Syrian-Turkish border.

“A nation that repeats ad nauseam that it sticks to democratic values and rule of law in international relations, is pumping oil… under a pretense of fighting ISIL,” the official said, using an outdated name for terrorist group Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

ISIL had been fully destroyed in March this year, according to the statements of the coalition. The narrative of the Americans doesn’t hold water.

Oil fields in the Deir ez-Zor governorate, east of the River Euphrates, were captured by US-backed Kurdish militias as they advanced on IS forces. Washington makes no secret of the fact that it keeps an illegal military presence in the area in order to deny Damascus access to the natural resources that it has every right to possess under international law.

The US considers the Syrian government illegitimate and has used various means to attempt to topple it over the past eight years, from imposing harsh economic sanctions to arming and training whoever was willing to fight against Damascus. The fact that the US banned oil trade with Syria and is now smuggling oil out of it is particularly ironic, Zakharova said.

‘Arrogant & illegal’: Lavrov denounces US military’s oil moves in Syria at Russian-Turkish-Iranian press event
The US was “arrogant” to send its troops to guard oilfields in Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said, adding that it remains unclear from whom the installations need to be protected.

The actions of the Americans in Syria violate international law, as their presence in the country is “illegal,” Lavrov reiterated, appearing alongside his Iranian and Turkish counterparts at a press-conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The statement that this [US] presence is needed to protect the oil riches of Syria is arrogant. It turns out that they are being protected from Syria itself.

Washington’s claims that oilfields needed protection from the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorist group were just a pretext to backtrack on the withdrawal of the US troops from Syria, which had earlier been announced by Donald Trump.

Such a statement sounds especially confusing as “back in March, the US already announced that Islamic State is defeated, crushed,” he reminded the attendance in Geneva.

Lavrov, Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu, and Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif got together to discuss the official launch of the Syrian Constitutional Committee to take place in Geneva on Wednesday.

Another pressing issue on the agenda was the ceasefire in northern Syria, which was negotiated by Russia and Turkey in Sochi last week, but was due to expire later on Tuesday.

Cavusoglu warned that any Kurdish units, whom Ankara views as terrorists, remaining in the “safe zone” on the Turkish-Syrian border after the truce ends will be eliminated. However, he pointed out that Turkey trusts Moscow when it said that the Kurds have left the area, per the agreement.

Whose oil is it anyway? Time for Trump to leave Syrian oil to the Syrians

For all President Trump’s talk of withdrawal, and ending the US’ “endless wars” in the Middle East, America will remain in Syria to keep its oil in the hands of Washington’s favorite militias. Isn’t it time to just let go?

The killing of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi by American special forces on Saturday was undoubtedly a foreign policy triumph for Trump, deflecting the criticism that followed his withdrawal of troops from northern Syria and compounding his claim to have “obliterated his caliphate, 100 percent.”

But no sooner had Trump taken his victory lap than he told reporters he would be “leaving soldiers to secure the oil.” So much for bringing the boys home.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper confirmed the US’ new priority on Monday, telling reporters that US troops and armored vehicles are already en route to the oilfields of Deir ez-Zor, where they have been asked to “respond with overwhelming military force against any group” threatening them – including Russia and the Syrian government.

President Trump is a blunt speaker, and often practices publicly what other leaders would prefer remain hidden. On one hand, the decision to remain behind for the oil’s sake fits right in with Trump’s transactional view of international relations. After all, this is the same president who complained that his predecessor didn’t seize Iraqi oil fields as “reimbursement” for the 2003 invasion (‘we’ll invade them and they’ll pay us to do it’).

On the other, it bogs American troops down in a country he once referred to as “sand and death,” contradicting his oft-repeated promise to extricate the US from Syria and quit playing the world’s “policeman.”

But, if the oilfield mission is taken at face value, Washington isn’t even going to profit from the oil. Though Trump teased the prospect of getting American oil companies involved in its extraction, Esper on Monday claimed that the US will only ensure that the black gold remains in the hands of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and out of the hands of IS.

Few would argue with keeping the oil in the hands of the Kurds, especially as the SDF have long assisted Washington in the fight against IS, and contributed intelligence to the raid on Baghdadi’s compound on Saturday. The oil guarantee could also be seen as compensation to the Kurds, following the US’ withdrawal that left them at the mercy of a Turkish military operation earlier this month.

Except Deir ez-Zor is Syrian land. The oil under the ground there is Syrian oil. And Syria, officially, remains under the rule of President Bashar Assad. The United States is not technically at war with Assad, its presence in Syria is not sanctioned by international law, and even if the US were leading an internationally recognized military campaign against Assad, seizing oil is not legal under the American definition of the ‘spoils of war.’

And to top it off, there’s no inkling that Islamic State, or what remains of the group, will even threaten the sites. Asked on Monday if the oilfields and their American protectors were under any threat, Esper replied “not at this time.”

Though Syria is not a major producer, oil sales accounted for a quarter of the state’s revenue and were projected to net the government $3.2 billion in 2010, before the outbreak of war. Now, with much of the country in ruins, oil sales could be a vital lifeline for the nation’s rebuilding. With the US denying everyone bar the Kurds access to at least some of this oil, that recovery is hampered.

The military defeat of IS and the violent death of its depraved leader have presented Trump with the perfect opportunity to make good on his campaign pledge to get out of the “bloodstained sand” of the Middle East. Endless war and occupation are the legacies of the Bush administration, and the preserve of war hawks like John Bolton and Lindsey Graham.

Time to declare mission accomplished and leave Syria to the Syrians.

Syrian oil: US troops being deployed will strike at ANY force challenging occupation – SecDef
American mechanized forces have begun deploying at Syrian oil fields, ostensibly to stop the remnants of Islamic State from seizing them, and will respond with “overwhelming force” to protect them.

Following the withdrawal of US forces from northern Syria earlier this month, and the killing of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi on Saturday night, American forces in Syria apparently have a new mission: protect the oil.

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said at a press conference on Monday that American mechanized forces have already deployed to protect oil fields in eastern Syria. The mission, on its surface, aims to keep these oil fields in the hands of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, Washington’s former allies in the fight against IS.

The American troops, he said, will “respond with overwhelming military force against any group who threatens the safety of our forces there.” When asked whether the US would potentially respond with force against Russian or Syrian forces, Esper simply responded “yes.”

Esper’s apparent threat comes hot on heels of Moscow accusing the US of facilitating the oil smuggling in Syria. Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Major General Igor Konashenkov called the US oilfield operation “state-sponsored banditry,” and accused Washington of leaving its forces there to help oil smugglers pillage Syria’s national resources. The ministry published aerial images on Saturday, that it claims show crude oil being smuggled out of the country “under the strong protection of the US.”

Though much noise has been made about protecting the oil fields from the remnants of IS, the shattered jihadist group has not made any moves towards seizing them. Asked whether the fields and the American forces there were under any threat, Esper replied “not at this time.”

President Trump had previously promised to bring all of the 1,000 or so US troops in Syria home, after the withdrawal from the country’s north. However, some will be moved to Iraq, while more will now remain behind at the oil fields. It is still unclear how many troops will stay in Syria.

Radical opposition cleric gives ‘puppet’ PM Khan 2 days to resign amid massive protest

‘Gorbachev of Pakistan must go!’ Radical opposition cleric gives ‘puppet’ PM Khan 2 days to resign amid massive protest (VIDEOS)

Hardline Islamist cleric Maulana Fazlur Rehman has presented Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan with a two-day ultimatum, demanding his resignation and threatening continued demonstrations against the Khan government.

Addressing a crowd of anti-government protesters in Islamabad on Friday – many from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Party – Rehman stated “the Gorbachev of Pakistan must go,” calling Khran a traitor and a puppet.

We give him two days to resign, otherwise, we will decide about the future.

Leaving Lahore on Wednesday and reaching Pakistan’s capital the next day, the demonstrations have largely targeted the Prime Minister, insisting his previous election win was not legitimate, and now hopes to oust him from power.

“The elections of July 25 were fraud elections. We neither accept the results nor the government that came into power after those elections,” Rehman said. “We gave this government one year but now we cannot give them any more time.”

Khan himself appears to have kept a cool head over the protests so far, vowing to keep the demonstrators supplied with food as long as they remained in the capital to express their discontent peacefully, but assured the leaders of the march that their actions would not win concessions from the government.

“Gone are the days when one used to use Islam to gain power,” Khan told a rally in Gilgit-Baltistan. “This is a new Pakistan. Sit however long you want. When your food runs out, we will send more. But we will not give you an NRO [National Reconciliation Ordinance].”
