Iraqi Forces Capture Baghdadi's Deputy in Al-Anbar

FARSNEWS2019/4/11
Kurdish Commander: Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi Sheltered in Turkey-Occupied Regions in Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- A spokesman of the Kurdish forces in Syria claimed that ISIL ringleader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has hidden in areas occupied by Turkey in Northern Syria.

The Arabic-language service of RT quoted Spokesman and Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mostafa Bali as saying on Thursday that al-Baghdadi is living in the Ankara-occupied regions in Idlib province.

Bali claimed on his twitter page that the ISIL's so-called oil minister has confessed that the terrorist group has transferred nearly 40 tons of gold and a large number of valuable goods from Iraq to Syria and other places when it had occupied certain regions in Northern Iraq.

Iraqi sources claimed in February that al-Baghdadi was alive and hiding in Syria behind the borders with Iraq amid contradictory reports about his whereabouts.

"Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is still alive and is in Syria," RT quoted an Iraqi intelligence source as saying on condition of anonymity.

The source said that al-Baghdadi had moved along Iraq-Syria border while disguising and in the absence of his armed men or security convoys.

Meantime, in March, a Turkish-language newspaper claimed that Washington was helping ISIL commanders to flee Syria by providing them fake documents, and said the terrorist group's ringleader was under the control of the US.

Yeni Shafaq published a picture of al-Baghdadi in a US armored vehicle, disclosing that the CIA spy agency is monitoring the presence of al-Baghdadi and his movements.

ISIS Leader under US Army’s Control: Report
Alwaght- The US reportedly is helping ISIS commanders to flee Syria by providing them fake documents, while the terrorist group's ringleader is under its control.

Turkey's Yeni Shafaq newspaper published a picture of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in a US armored vehicle, claiming that the CIA spy agency is monitoring the presence of al-Baghdadi and his movements.

The Turkish newspaper pointed to the issuance of passport with new names and IDs for al-Baghdadi and 140 ISIS terrorists, and said that fake documents are just part of the US secret operations that is aimed at relocating the terrorists to Iraq.

It noted that the US spy agency has interrogated 2,000 ISIS terrorists in special centers that the US has set up in the camps controlled by the Kurdish forces in Syria and Iraq before giving new passports and documents to them.

This is while French, Israeli and British inspectors regularly visited the camps during interrogations.

Damascus has announced that the US and Turkey know the whereabouts of the ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Syrian Ambassador to the UN Bashar al-Ja'afari said in an interview with al-Mayadeen television channel in early March that the West is working "to prolong the crisis in Syria" and that the administration of US President Donald Trump is seeking to keep up "investing in terrorism" in Syria and Iraq in order to pursue its agenda in the region.

He also accused the US-led coalition of transferring ISIS elements.

In a relevant development in early February, a senior source in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that al-Baghdadi was being protected by the Americans in Eastern Syria, adding that Washington plans to play a Hollywood-like scenario to declare end of the ISIS caliphate.

The Arabic-language website of Sputnik news agency quoted the source as saying on Sunday that Baghdadi was being heavily protected by the American forces in a secret place in Eastern Euphrates region.

He added that the Americans "are waiting for an opportunity to conduct heliborne operations by their marine forces in Southeastern Deir Ez-Zor and declare the capture of al-Baghdadi and end of ISIL on footage".

The source insisted that the time for the "above-mentioned theater is close", adding that the American forces have held SDF back from further advances in the ISIS-occupied regions in Eastern Euphrates to play the scenario.

US President Donald Trump said in early February that the country would likely announce that all of the ISIS terrorist group caliphate had been retaken in Syria and Iraq.

"It should be formally announced, sometime probably next week, that we'll have 100 percent of the caliphate," Trump stated during his remarks at a ministerial meeting of US-led coalition member states.

Earlier, the American president said during his second State of the Union address that it was time to return US troops deployed in Syria back home.

In December, Trump declared the ISIL terrorist group defeated in Syria, and announced the US troop pullout from the country but gave no timeline.

Also in early February, a senior US administration official told reporters that Syria’s Al-Tanf region would be the last place in the country that American troops leave as they implemented a planned withdrawal.

"In terms of Al-Tanf − that is, in terms of the drawdown plans − Al-Tanf would be the last place that we would withdraw from, and I think that’s something that has not been scheduled; it would be conditions-based," the official noted.

Iraqi Forces Capture Baghdadi's Deputy in Al-Anbar
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iraqi security forces in Western al-Anbar captured one of the key deputies of ISIL ringleader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who is reportedly aware of the hideout of the terrorist group's top commander.

The Arabic-language al-Ma'aloumeh news website quoted Commander of Hashd al-Shaabi (Iraqi Popular Forces) in al-Anbar province Qatari al-Abidi as saying on Friday that the security forces have arrested Abd Malaji Akil, one of al-Baghdadi's deputies and close aides, in the town of al-Ratbah in the desert area of al-Nakhib region.

He described al-Akil as the right hand man of al-Baghdadi, saying that he knows his commander's hideout and his capture could help the operations to trap al-Baghdadi and the ISIL remnants in different parts of al-Anbar province.

Al-Akil was one of the ISIL commanders who has collaborated in killing a number of Iraqi security forces and civilians in desert areas of al-Anbar province recently.

Iraqi sources claimed in February that al-Baghdadi was alive and hiding in Syria behind the borders with Iraq amid contradictory reports about his whereabouts.

"Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is still alive and is in Syria," the Arabic-language service of Russia Today (RT) television quoted an Iraqi intelligence source as saying on condition of anonymity.

The source said that al-Baghdadi had moved along Iraq-Syria border while disguising and in the absence of his armed men or security convoys.

Japanese military confirms F-35 crash & discovery of wreckage
Japan’s military has found debris from a F-35A fighter jet that disappeared from radar with one pilot on board during a training mission over the Pacific Ocean on Tuesday evening.

A Japanese Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) spokesman has confirmed that debris from the F-35A plane, which lost radar contact with ground control at Misawa Air Base during a routine training mission off the coast of Aomori Prefecture on Tuesday, has been found.

"We recovered the wreckage and determined it was from the F-35," he told Reuters.

It is the second F-35 crash in the fighter's history, and the first one outside the US. The plane was less than a year old and was delivered to the JASDF last year. It was flying with three others of the same make about 135km off the coast when it disappeared.

Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya grounded the Air Self-Defense Force’s entire fleet of F-35As as a precaution after the aircraft went missing at about 7:30pm local time, half an hour after taking off. At the same time the fighter disappeared from the radar screens, ground control also lost all radio contact with it.

It was reportedly the first F-35A to be built at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries facility in Nagoya. In December, Japan announced plans to place an order for 105 more F-35s from the US on top of the 42 it had already bought – a deal which would make Japan the largest international buyer of the troubled plane.

The F-35 is considered the most expensive US military program ever, and a 2018 report by the Project on Government Oversight claims that senior officials involved in developing the aircraft concealed dangerous flaws in its design instead of fixing them in order to avoid paying cost overruns on what was already an enormously expensive project. A 2018 Government Accountability Office report showed the plane had 111 Category One deficiencies that severely restricted its combat readiness, posing the risk of death, severe injury, loss or major damage.

A February report from the Pentagon further revealed that some of the F-35s' lifespan is nearly four times shorter than expected, and the firing accuracy of the fighter's guns is “unacceptable.” The number of operation-ready planes remained below 60 percent, and previously-uncovered cybersecurity “vulnerabilities” were still wide open.

Japanese fighter jet 'disappears from radar' over Pacific
A Japanese stealth fighter jet has disappeared from radar over the Pacific Ocean during a training mission, according to local reports. Radio contact has also reportedly been lost with the plane.

The F35A stealth fighter disappeared at approximately 7.30pm local time Tuesday, reports the Asahi Shimbun. The jet took off with several other aircraft from the Misawa Air Base, roughly 135km northeast of Misawa City, for a regular night-time training exercise about half an hour before the disappearance.

The aircraft is believed to have one pilot on board. A search and rescue operation is already underway, and the Japanese Coast Guard has deployed two patrol ships to look for the aircraft and pilot.

The F35A is a conventional takeoff and landing aircraft, and is the smallest and lightest of the Lockheed Martin series of multirole fighters.

The jet has been deployed at the base since January 2018. Japan’s Ministry of Defense currently has plans to deploy a total of 42 aircraft to the base.

NATO bombing? How Libya's conflict can be resolved

RT2019/4/10
NATO bombing? How Libya's conflict can be resolved
Military interference or attempts at peacekeeping in Libya will only result in a pause in the conflict, not a resolution. The current situation in Libya is in flux, and reports we get are slow in arriving and largely unreliable.

So far, we can come to very few conclusions about what's going on, and very preliminary ones at that. It seems that at this point the military struggle in Libya isn't ruled by a strategy of fighting until victorious and without retreat. This is based on relatively small losses of personnel and military hardware. It would appear that, for now, parties to the conflict are busy not so much with continuously conducting offensive or defensive military operations, but rather with demonstrating their capabilities and intentions.

There is no accurate data on Khalifa Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA) in terms of troops or military capabilities. They are armed mainly with the leftovers from Muammar Gaddafi's army, though lately some weapons have allegedly been coming through Egypt. There is no doubt that LNA has been getting weapons through any channel available.

At the same time, there is no accurate information on the troops commanded by the Government of National Accord (GNA) operating from Libya's capital Tripoli. Led by Fayez al-Sarraj, the government that was formed with the support of the UN and EU.

That's why, at this point, it's impossible to analyze the capabilities of parties to the conflict in any fact-based way. We don't know the most important thing either – not how much military hardware Haftar or al-Sarraj might have, but whether it's functional and whether the two sides have enough resources for a prolonged military conflict, such as munitions and food supplies.

There is no credible information regarding the morale of either the LNA or the GNA troops, whilst, at the end of the day, this will be a defining factor as to who wins in the military conflict.

Let's have a brief overview of all possible scenarios for Libya. First, it is possible that the US and some NATO countries may intervene in the conflict. They would only need a couple of days for operational deployment on the ground, while airstrikes and missile attacks can be carried out in almost immediately.

NATO would need only several days to disperse that semi-guerilla army of Field Marshal Haftar across the desserts of Libya. In fact, that would not require any overly-advanced weaponry. In such a scenario, joint NATO air forces would most likely deploy ordinary unguided bombs. Air and sea-based cruise missiles alongside other precision-guided munition would likely be used only to wipe out Haftar's field command centers, because there are really no other targets worthy of deploying high-precision weapons.

As for the pretext for US and NATO's hypothetical intervention in Libya, they could start it under the guise of something seemingly plausible, such as to "restore constitutional order and neutralize the threat of illegal armed groups." That would perfectly justify subsequent strikes and bombing since the GNA at its helm was formed with the support of the UN and EU.

This is not an unlikely scenario, especially if the LNA's offensive turns out to be successful and pose a real threat to the West's geopolitical interests in the region. However, it should be noted that if things go down that road other outcomes are possible too – and they may be far worse than this one. It can actually turn so bad that an exodus of people from North Africa to Europe would be small beer. And that is the only reason why the West has so far refrained from the use of force in Libya.

The prevailing opinion now is that the conflicting parties in Libya should stop any escalation of hostilities, and it would only be possible to stabilize the situation through a political solution rather than warfare. It's been stated that the there is no military solution to the Libya conflict, and that political negotiations are the only way to unite the country and ensure its security, stability, and prosperity for all its residents.

It sounds nice, however it's is quite unlikely to happen in the context of the Middle East and Libya. This approach hasn't worked so far in any country of this region, nor did it produce any positive result, despite of all efforts. First of all, usually the contradictions between conflicting parties are way too big. Second, it can only lead to a freeze in the conflict at best, and sooner or later, war would break out again.

So, the most realistic way to resolving the Libya situation is the victory of the strongest, as cynical as it may sound at first glance. A winner in this armed conflict would be able to unite the country, crush the rival military groups (by making them lay down their arms and give up further hostilities), stabilize the situation, and restore basic order.

After a while, it would be quite possible to have elections and other various democratic procedures. Yet, talking about these things now, in a country which is in turmoil and engaged in civil war, would essentially mean being out of sync with reality.

So, the truth is that it only makes real sense to hold negotiations with the leader who emerges victorious in this armed conflict. Anything else is nothing more than political games, fanning the conflict's flames to make it last longer.

The experience tells us that in recent decades, that's exactly how it has always played out in the Middle East and Northern Africa – the order in a conflict-ridden country was always restored by the victorious party, and never because it was "the right thing to do" according to any democratic procedures.

Fecal transplants yield MASSIVE breakthrough for child autism, 50% reduction in severity (VIDEO)
Scientists are celebrating a “world-first discovery” which shows the “highest improvement” in child autism patients, using fecal transplants to massively curtail symptoms and greatly reduce suffering.

The results of the initial study involving 18 children show great promise: 83 percent of the children had “severe” autism symptoms, but just two years later, only 17 percent had “moderate” symptoms, while 44 percent fell below the threshold for “mild” autism.

The team recorded a roughly 45-percent drop in language, social, and behavioural issues in the children over the course of the study.

The initial success of the microbiota 微生物相or ‘fecal transfer’ therapy adds further weight to the theory this, and many other, neurological conditions may be strongly connected to the gut rather than the brain.

“We are finding a very strong connection between the microbes that live in our intestines and signals that travel to the brain,” Dr. Rosa Krajmalnik-Brown, a microbiologist at Arizona State University who jointly led the study, said, adding that, “Two years later, the children are doing even better, which is amazing.”

In the US, one in every 59 children is diagnosed with some form of autism, which is a spectrum disorder, a vast increase in diagnosis from just one in every 150 in 2000. This means that half a million people on the autism spectrum will become adults in the next decade, “a swelling tide for which the country is unprepared,” according to the researchers.

In children with autism, gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation and diarrhoea can cause irritability, decreased attention span, and negatively impact behaviour, exacerbating other symptoms and making treatment and condition management far more difficult.

The regimen consists of pre-treatment with a bowel cleanse, administering a stomach acid suppressant and fecal transplants for between seven and eight weeks. The ‘donation’ of more diverse gut bacteria greatly boosts overall health and wellbeing in the patients.

Much larger trials are required before the treatment is officially approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.

The treatment was originally pioneered by Dr. Thomas Borody, an Australian gastroenterologist, who has hailed the results as a significant breakthrough.

“This is a world-first discovery... I would call it the highest improvement in a cohort that anyone has achieved for autism symptoms,” he said.

Deputy FM: US Strategic Mistake against IRGC to Change Iranian Forces' Behavior towards Americans

Iran won’t be attacking American troops, despite US listing IRGC as terror group – top MP
The White House’s designation of Tehran’s Revolutionary Guard as a terror group is evidence of US support for terrorism, but it doesn’t mean Iran will be attacking US troops in the Middle East, a high-ranking MP has said.

Washington’s latest decision to include the elite Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) into the State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations “shows that the Americans are backing terrorism,” Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, chairman of the parliament’s national security committee, told RIA Novosti.

But it doesn’t mean that we are taking steps towards killing American soldiers

Iranian leaders responded angrily to US President Donald Trump's designation, which marks the first time the US has labeled part of a foreign military a terrorist group. President Hassan Rouhani, for instance, said the US was the “leader of world terrorism.” His government also hit back, naming US Central Command (CENTCOM) as a terrorist organization.

The move “wasn’t a declaration of war against America,” Falahatpisheh explained. He did not believe the standoff will eventually lead to a confrontation between Washington and Tehran.

Meanwhile in Tehran, MPs from various factions came on Tuesday wearing a dark green IRGC uniform in a show of solidarity with the elite force. After chanting anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans, emotive speeches were given denouncing Trump’s decision.

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission underlined that the US designation of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps as a "terrorist organization" resulted from Washington's anger for the IRGC's effective role in fighting terrorism.

"The US statesmen's problem is not what they claim to be the IRGC's support for terrorism but it is precisely vice versa; that is the unique, efficient and decisive role of the IRGC in eradication of the terrorist groups' strongholds," Mohammad Javad Jamali Nobandegani said, addressing the 140th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the Qatari capital city of Doha on Wednesday.

He added that the IRGC has fought against those terrorist groups which directly or indirectly were armed and supported financially by the US and its regional allies.

Jamali Nobandegani said that if the IRGC supported the al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham al-Hay'at or the Levant Liberation Board) or ISIL terrorist groups, the White House would never embark to blacklist it as the US is making an instrumental use of terrorism.

The United States on Monday designated the IRGC as a "foreign terrorist organization", marking the first time Washington has formally labelled another country's military a "terrorist group".

Responding to Washington's move, Iran immediately declared the US as "state sponsor of terrorism" and American forces in the region "terrorist groups".

Iran's top security body, the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), in a statement issued on Monday evening declared the United States a “terrorist government”, and blacklisted the "CENTCOM and all its affiliates a terrorist group”.

The SNSC - that is headed by President Hassan Rouhani - condemned Washington's move, calling it “an illegal and dangerous action” that poses a “major threat to regional and international peace and security and grossly violates the rules of international law".

The statement further condemned the US decision as “unlawful and unreasonable action” prompted by the Islamic Republic's regional influence and success in fighting against terrorists, and blamed CENTCOM for harming Iran’s national security as well as ruining the lives of “innocent Iranian and non-Iranian individuals” to promote the US “aggressive policies” in West Asia (the Middle-East).

"The Islamic Republic of Iran regards this baseless move as a major threat to regional and international peace and security and a blatant violation of the compelling rules of international law and the United Nations Charter," Iran's top security body reiterated.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had asked Iranian President Rouhani to designate the CENTCOM as a terrorist organization.

Due to the “clear support” US forces in Western Asia lend to terrorist groups, and their own “involvement in terrorist activities”, the US military in the region should be put on a list of terrorist groups in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Zarif said in a letter to Rouhani and Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Also in a tweet on Monday, the Iranian top diplomat slammed the decision by the US administration on labeling the IRGC a "foreign terrorist organization", seeing Trump's close ties with Netanyahu as a main contributor to the gravely wrong move made by the US president ahead of the Tuesday election in Israel.

"A(nother) misguided election-eve gift to Netanyahu. A(nother) dangerous US misadventure in the region," Zarif wrote on Twitter on Monday, referring to the IRGC designation as yet another move by the US president in aid of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Trump's recent decision to recognize Israel's annexation of the Syrian Golan Height.

The US' Golan Heights decision, which is in obvious contravention of international law, has been met with condemnation by the international community, with the UN and even Washington's Persian Gulf and European allies blasting the move.

Netanyahu welcomed the US decision to label Iran’s IRGC a “terrorist organization”, rushing to thank his “dear friend” Trump for answering “another important request that serves the interests of our country and the region”.

“We will continue to act together in any way against the Iranian regime that threatens the state of Israel, the United States and the peace of the world,” the Israeli PM wrote on Twitter.

With Israel’s election to take place on Tuesday, the Israeli primer is likely grateful for the latest public show of Trump support for his government. The right-wing Likud party, led by Netanyahu, and Blue and White political alliance, led by former Israeli Defense Forces chief Benny Gantz, who threatens to end Netanyahu’s decade-long tenure, are considered the main rivals in the polls to elect members of Knesset (Israel's parliament).

The Israeli regime’s traditionally close relationship with the US has grown stronger under Trump. Washington recognized Jerusalem al-Quds as the Israeli “capital” in December 2017 and moved the American embassy from Tel Aviv to the ancient city in May 2018, sparking global condemnations.

Responding to the US hostility towards the IRGC, General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces declared in a statement on Tuesday that the forces under its command would fight against the US Central Command known as CENTCOM "terrorist group".

"The US administration's move to designate the IRGC as a terrorist group is actually a desperate attempt and retaliation to cap the US failures in the region and of course, it lacks operational value and validity and is practically doomed to failure," the statement said.

The statement referred to the SNSC's reaction to Washington's decision and designation of the CENTCOM as a terrorist group, and said the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces would consider the US Army forces under the CENTCOM command as terrorists and "will not spare any efforts to support the IRGC's anti-terrorism measures in the fight against the CENTCOM terrorist group".

Deputy FM: US Strategic Mistake against IRGC to Change Iranian Forces' Behavior towards Americans
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi condemned the US blacklisting of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as "political and strategic mistake", warning that it will change the Iranian forces' behavior towards their American counterparts in the region.

“The US recent measure is a political and strategic mistake,” Araqchi said in an interview with the state TV on Monday night.

He stressed that Washington has crossed one of the fundamental redlines of the Islamic Republic.

US decision leads to a "very serious" change in Iran-US interactions and Tehran will give a "firm and clear" response, Araqchi noted.

Forces of US Central Command (CENTCOM) play a direct and indirect role in all crimes that have happened in Syria, Yemen, and Palestine, he said, adding that from now on, Iranian forces’ behavior towards Americans will change.

"From now on, American forces in their military bases in the region are not soldiers; from our view, these are terrorist bases and the forces deployed there are terrorists," Araqchi said.

He added that the IRGC is in charge of establishing security in the Persian Gulf and after the US decision to blacklist the force, new incidents may happen in the region.

The United States on Monday designated the IRGC as a "foreign terrorist organization", marking the first time Washington has formally labelled another country's military a "terrorist group".

Responding a report by the WSJ on the US decision to designate the IRGC as a "terrorist organization", IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari had warned that the US Army would lose its current status of ease and serenity in West Asia if Washington designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization.

“If (the Americans) make such a stupid move, the US Army and American security forces stationed in West Asia (Middle-East) will lose their current status of ease and serenity,” Major General Jafari warned Washington on Sunday.

“If they make a stupid move as such and endanger out national security, a reciprocal move will be placed on our agenda and then put into operation based on the policies of the Establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the General reiterated.
