US Plot to Occupy Strategic Iraq-Syria Corridor Revealed

US Plot to Occupy Strategic Iraq-Syria Corridor Revealed
TEHRAN (FNA)- Hundreds of US-backed militants were sent from al-Tanf region in Southeastern Syria to Western Iraq to take control of the strategic Qa'em-Albu Kamal corridor in Eastern Syria.

The Arabic-language Sham Times reported on Thursday that the US-led coalition has transferred nearly 850 of the 11,000 militia stationed in Southeastern Syria to its military bases in Western Iraq.

It added that members of Ahmed Aboud, Aswad al-Sharqiyeh, Jeish Maqawir al-Thawra and Jeish Syria al-Jadid terrorist groups are stationed in the bordering triangle of Syria, Iraq and Jordan (al-Tanf and the nearby areas), saying that the US has come to believe that since al-Tanf has been surrounded by the Syrian army and its allies, its current plan in the region might prove futile in future.

According to the report, the US wants to implement a new plot in Eastern Syria by transferring the first group of these terrorists to Ein al-Assad base and al-Habaniyeh base in Western Iraq which already host over 7,000 soldiers, including 5,800 Americans and 1,200 other nationalities.

It added that given the fact that the US has at present occupied the Iraqi side of al-Qaem-Albu Kamal corridor, it seems that it is attempting to take full control of the passageway.

According to numerous witness accounts, militants are receiving training at the US military base near the Syrian city of Al-Tanf, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing last Thursday.

Russia is also concerned about the United States’ activities in Syria, the foreign ministry spokeswoman went on to say.

"The so-called US-led coalition has been conducting intensive airstrikes on the outskirts of Hajin, occupied by ISIL, causing numerous civilian deaths," Zakharova stressed, noting that "according to the Syrian media, the coalition has once again used white phosphorus shells".

"By maintaining its illegal military presence in Syria and failing to specify its purpose and provide a timeframe, Washington makes it clear that it is not interested in an early resolution of the crisis in the country," the Russian diplomat stated.

Military Source Rejects Operating S300 Air Defense System by Syrian Army to Counter Recent Raids
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian Air Defense Unis have not thus far utilized S300 missile system, a Syrian military sources told a Russian media outlet on Friday, adding that old air defense systems were used to counter the recent Israeli missile attack on the Southern part of the country.

The Arabic-language website of Sputnik quoted the high-ranking sources as reporting that the air defense units intercepted most of the enemy's intruding missiles without using S300 air defense missile system last night.

It went on to say that advanced SAM missiles and other types of high precise air defense weapons were used to intercept the intruding missiles.

The army's air defense units counter a fresh heavy wave of air attacks over Quneitra, Southwestern Damascus and Western Dara'a, intercepting most of the missiles.

Over 50 people hospitalized in Syria's Aleppo after militants shell city with poison gas – reports
At least 50 residents of neighborhoods in Syria's Aleppo have been treated for symptoms of toxic gas poisoning after militants attacked the residential area with gas-filled munitions, Syrian media reported.

The Al-Khalidiye and Al Zahraa neighborhoods, as well as Nile Street, were targeted by rocket fire on Saturday evening, Syria's state SANA news agency reported. The munitions used by the rebels were rigged with toxic gas, causing dozens of civilians to suffer from asphyxiation, the agency said.

The hazardous substance has been preliminarily identified as chlorine, according to medical officials.

The head of the health department of the Syrian city of Aleppo, Ziad Haj Taha, reported that 50 people were taken to two Aleppo hospitals after the shelling, noting that the number of the injured is likely to rise.

"Ambulance services continue to provide assistance to victims of poison gas use by terrorist groups, presumably chlorine," Taha told Russian Sputnik news agency.

The Russian Defense Ministry has dispatched chemical protection troops stationed in Syria to the area. They are tending to those affected and monitoring the situation on the ground, ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov told media.

"From preliminary data, in particular the confirmed symptoms displayed by those affected, the munitions used in the shelling were filled with chlorine," Konashenkov said. According to the Russian military's data, 46 people, including 8 children, were hospitalized after the shelling.

Chlorine, which was first used as a weapon during WWI, may cause lasting health damage and can be fatal at high levels of exposure.

Children and women are reported to be among the victims of the attack.

The Syrian armed forces fired back, targeting the positions of the militants north of Aleppo, a SANA correspondent reported, adding that they appear to have suffered heavy losses.

"The Syrian army responded to the shelling of militants, attacking the positions from which the shelling was carried out, militants suffered significant losses," a Syrian military source confirmed the retaliatory attack to Sputnik.

SANA has released a video showing purported victims of the attack wearing oxygen masks as they are being treated in an Aleppo hospital.

Moscow has repeatedly accused anti-government rebels of plotting a chemical weapons attack with the possible goal of framing Damascus. Last month, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that a hardline Islamist group affiliated with the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) got hold of two canisters filled with chlorine after raiding the headquarters of rival Jabhat al-Nusra group [rebranded as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham].

Turkish Chemical Weapons Experts Cooperating with Terrorists to Eliminate Evidence of Aleppo Attack
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Turkish Army's chemical-biological weapons experts are in regions in Northern Syria where Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) recently launched chemical attack on Aleppo city's Northwestern neighborhoods, local sources reported on Friday.

The sources said that Turkey is trying hard to clean up the area's soil and buildings from any poisonous gas residuals before the arrival of a delegation from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in the region.

Last week, the Al-Nusra terrorists launched a gas attack on Northwestern neighborhoods of Aleppo city, poisoning 107 civilians.

In the meantime, sources close to the militant groups said the recent gas attack on Aleppo by Tahrir Al-Sham Hayat indicates that Turkey cannot at all control the terrorist group.

The Arabic-language Al-Watan newspaper quoted sources close to Nouralddeen al-Zinki terrorist group as saying that Tahrir al-Sham terrorists were responsible for the chlorine gas attack on residential areas in Aleppo.

"The attacks on Aleppo's residential areas were done by rockets and shells that had been chemically armed by White Helmets," the sources said.

The sources noted that Tahrir al-Sham's chemical attacks were launched from the demilitarized zone specified under the Sochi agreement.

The attacks from the demilitarized zone display that Ankara had no control over the terrorist groups operating in zone, and failed to hold up its end of the bargain.

In a relevant development on Sunday, Syrian Foreign Ministry said that the Aleppo chlorine shelling was made possible because Western countries had been supplying weapons to militants so that they staged chemical attacks.

Damascus went on to call on the United Nations to take measures regarding the militants who attacked Aleppo and the states that were supporting them, Sputnik reported.

Syria's comments came after on Saturday, militants based North of Aleppo fired chlorine-loaded shells at the city's al-Khalidiye neighborhood. Militants also shelled the neighborhoods of al-Khalidiye and Al Zahraa as well as the Nile Street, causing at least 65 people to be delivered to hospitals over difficulties with breathing.
