Report: ‘I’m Choking’ Were Last Heard from Khashoggi
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Turkish journalist revealed bits from a secret audio tape that was allegedly recorded from the brutal assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Turkish city of Istanbul, saying the slain man begged for his life before he died at the hand of killers.

Nazif Karaman, head of investigation department at the Daily Sabah, a Turkish newspaper, stated Saturday that people who killed Khashoggi put a bag on his head to strangle and suffocate him.

“I’m choking, put this bag away from my head, I’m scared of claustrophobia(閉所恐怖症),” Khashoggi said before he died, according to Karaman who shared the information with the Qatari-based news channel Al-Jazeera.

Karaman based his account of the brutal killing on an audio tape that Turkish authorities say can prove Khashogi’s assassination in the Consulate on October 2 was pre-mediated.

In his interview with the Al-Jazeera, Karaman, who is believed to be close to the Turkish government, stated that the strangulation of Khashoggi lasted for seven minutes.

He also cited information from Turkish intelligence officials, saying that the 15-member Saudi hit squad that had traveled to Istanbul to kill Khashoggi in the kingdom’s consulate spent 15 minutes to dismember Khashoggi’s body after he was killed.

Karaman did not elaborate on how the Saudi assassination team managed to dispose of Khashoggi’s body, a question that remains unsolved in Turkey’s investigation.

He said, however, that the Saudi team had traveled to Turkey with some special “tools and equipment”, adding that the pictures and details of the gadgets will be published by Daily Sabah in the coming days.

Turkish sources have announced previously that authorities have an audio recording purportedly documenting the murder

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that Turkey has given recordings on the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi to Saudi Arabia, the United States, Germany, France and Britain.

Speaking ahead of his departure for France to attend commemorations to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War One, Erdogan stated that Saudi Arabia knows the killer of Khashoggi is among a group of 15 people who arrived in Turkey one day ahead of the killing.

Saudi Arabia initially attempted to cover up the killing by insisting that Khashoggi had left the consulate. It then changed its narrative, saying the journalist died in a fistfight. Later, Saudi Arabia admitted Khashoggi was killed in a premeditated murder, but that to killing was an unplanned "rogue operation".

Turkish and Saudi officials have carried out joint inspections of the consulate and the consul's residence, but Ankara underscored that some Saudi officials were still trying to cover up the crime.

Khashoggi Killing: 'Tell Your Boss Deed Is Done'
TEHRAN (FNA)- A member of a Saudi assassination squad phoned a superior shortly after Jamal Khashoggi was murdered and told him "tell your boss" their mission had been accomplished, The New York Times reported.

Citing three people familiar with a recording of Khashoggi's killing collected by Turkish intelligence, the newspaper noted that while he was not mentioned by name, US officials believe "your boss" was a reference to Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

US intelligence officials view the recording as some of the strongest evidence yet linking bin Salman to the murder, it said.

Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, one of 15 Saudis sent to Istanbul to target Khashoggi, made the phone call and spoke in Arabic, sources told the NYT. Mutreb is a security officer who frequently travels with the crown prince.

Turkish intelligence officers told US officials they believe the call was made to one of bin Salman's close aides.

"The deed was done," Mutreb told the aide, though the paper noted exact translations into English may differ.

Turkish officials have said the audio recording does not conclusively implicate bin Salman, but analysts say it's an important clue.

"A phone call like that is about as close to a smoking gun as you are going to get," Bruce Riedel, a former CIA officer now at the Brookings Institution, was quoted as saying, adding that "it is pretty incriminating evidence".

Saudi officials denied the crown prince "had any knowledge whatsoever" of Khashoggi's killing.

Referring to Mutreb's instructions to "tell your boss", a Saudi statement said Turkey "allowed our intelligence services to hear recordings, and at no moment was there any reference to the mentioned phrase in the recordings", the New York Times reported.

Khashoggi - a Saudi writer, US resident and Washington Post columnist - entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 to obtain documentation certifying he divorced his ex-wife so he could remarry. He never came out. The whereabouts of Khashoggi's body are still unknown.

After weeks of repeated denials that it had anything to do with his disappearance, the kingdom eventually acknowledged the murder was premeditated.

Report: Hamas Missile Hits Israeli Bus Carrying Army Men, Tel Aviv's Fighters Pound Gaza Again
TEHRAN (FNA)- Israeli warplanes conducted fresh airstrikes throughout the besieged Gaza Strip, killing five people, shortly after the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement fired an intense barrage of retaliatory rockets against the Israeli-occupied territories in response for Israel's Sunday night raid.

Resistance forces fired over 400 rockets and mortar bombs from Gaza into the occupied territories on Monday and Tuesday, including military positions, in retaliation for Israeli Army's Sunday night special operation inside the Strip.

The latest escalation came less than 24 hours after at least seven Palestinians - including Nour Baraka, a prominent commander of the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas - were killed in a covert Israeli operation in the besieged enclave.

The Palestinian resistance movement on Monday night carried out its most intensive shelling of Israel since the 2014 Gaza war in retaliation for a cross-border commando raid. Gaza's retaliatory anti-tank missile, Kornet ATGM, hit a bus carrying Israeli forces, destroying the vehicle and killing one of them and injuring several.

Also, rocket sirens sounded throughout Southern Israeli settlements, including in Be'er Sheva, Ashkelon and Sderot. The sirens prompted thousands of settlers to rush for bomb shelters.

The Israel Defense Forces claimed that the Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted around 100 out of some 400 launches from Gaza.

Hamas claimed responsibility for the massive barrage of rockets and projectiles fired into Southern parts of the occupied territories, near the so-called border fence. The group's military wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, warned Tel Aviv it would bomb more places in Israel if attacks on Gaza continued.

Al-Qassam Brigades held the leadership of the Israeli occupation state fully responsible for what happened in Ashkelon, warning that there will be unprecedented strikes against Israeli targets if its aggression does not stop.

In Twitter remarks, Spokesman for al-Qassam Brigades Abu Obeida said that the Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza activated their joint operations room to exchange views about expanding the circle of rocket fire on Israeli targets.

Abu Obeida affirmed that if the Israeli side decided to persist in its aggression, about one million Jewish settlers would be within the circle of rocket fire.

Al-Qassam Brigades has affirmed that the occupied city of al-Majdal (Ashkelon) has become within range of fire in response to the Israeli bombing of civilian buildings in the Gaza Strip.

Obeida warned that the cities of Ashdod and Beersheba would be the next targets if the Israeli occupation army persisted in bombing civilians buildings in Gaza.

The Islamic Jihad echoed the statement, saying Gaza factions have the capacity to continue their offensive.

The Israeli military stepped up offensives on the besieged coastal enclave of Gaza in response to the multiple rounds of rocket fire over the past 24 hours, causing deaths and injuries.

Israeli military said in a statement that its fighter jets had carried out airstrikes “throughout the Gaza Strip” on Monday afternoon, claiming that the aerial aggression was aimed at “terror targets” in the impoverished enclave.

The Israeli military claimed in a statement that the aerial aggression was in response to tens of rockets and mortar shells fired against the Southern parts of the occupied territories minutes earlier, adding that Israel’s so-called Iron Dome managed to intercept several of the inbound projectiles.

At least five Palestinians have been killed and more than ten were injured on Monday evening, as Israeli military aircraft struck positions across the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Along with the airstrikes, Israeli artillery units shelled positions across the coastal enclave. Israeli helicopter gunships, meanwhile, have also reportedly targeted several positions in Southern Gaza.

Meanwhile, the headquarters of Al-Aqsa TV station run by Hamas was razed to the ground on Monday in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza amid a fresh round of violence in the besieged enclave. The building of Al-Aqsa TV station located in an-Nasr district, West of Gaza, was totally destroyed by the Israeli raids, but the TV station announced that it would resume broadcasts soon. Many local residents had reportedly fled after calls to evacuate, according to witnesses.

The flare-up came just a day after Israeli special forces infiltrated the Gaza Strip, assassinating a top Hamas commander, while subsequent Israeli airstrikes killed six others, including another commander with the Palestinian resistance movement.

Fawzi Barhoum, Spokesperson for Hamas, denounced what he called a "cowardly Israeli attack".

Ground operation inside the Gaza Strip is rare and will likely significantly boost tensions between Hamas and the Tel Aviv regime.

Also, an Israeli soldier was killed when an exchange of fire erupted during the operation, the army announced.

"During an [Israeli] special forces operational activity in the Gaza Strip, an exchange of fire evolved," the Israeli army said in a statement.

"At this incident, an IDF officer was killed and an additional officer was moderately injured," it added, referring to the Israel Defense Forces.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on an official visit to France, announced he was rushing back to Israel to deal with the crisis. The primer held an emergency security meeting with his minister of military forces and other senior Israeli military officials in Tel Aviv on Monday.

A return by Israel to a policy of targeting individual Hamas commanders - tactics largely abandoned in recent years - could significantly raise tensions along the border.

The Gaza Strip has been under an Israeli siege since June 2007. The blockade has caused a decline in the standards of living as well as unprecedented levels of unemployment and unrelenting poverty.

Israel and Palestinian forces in Gaza have also fought three wars since 2008, and recent months of unrest have raised fears of a fourth.

For seven months, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have demonstrated along the fence demanding their right to return to the homes and land their families were expelled from 70 years ago. The Great March of Return rallies culminated on May 15 to mark what Palestinians refer to as the Nakba, or Catastrophe - a reference to the forced removal of 750,000 Palestinians from their homes and villages to clear the way for Israel's establishment in 1948.

More than 230 Palestinians have been killed and over 23,000 others injured by Israeli forces since the outbreak of the Great March of Return rallies at Gaza border in late March.

Most of the casualties occurred on May 14 when Israeli forces attacked Palestinian protesters marking the 70th anniversary of Israel’s occupation of historical Palestine and the ensuing ethnic cleansing of half a million Palestinian refugees.

Locals in Frankfurt am Main were told to keep doors and windows closed after hydrochloric acid vapor leaked in the city’s industrial area

Locals in Frankfurt am Main were told to keep doors and windows closed following a hydrochloric acid vapor leak in the city’s industrial area.

The incident took place in Griesheim Industrial Park on Tuesday morning, according to firefighters. “Doors and windows in the area of Griesheim and [nearby] Nied are to be kept closed,” the warning said.

Specialists assessed the environment and detected no hazardous elements, police said, adding that the warning had been quickly lifted in both areas.

During the ‘curfew,’ locals began sharing videos of empty streets in their neighborhoods on social media.

SWIFT’s Iran ban will ‘expedite global de-dollarization’

RT2018/11/12
SWIFT’s Iran ban will ‘expedite global de-dollarization’ – Max Keiser
The blacklisting of Iran from international financial messaging system SWIFT serves as a warning to Washington’s enemies, but will hasten the demise of the dollar, stockbroker-turned broadcaster Max Keiser told RT.

SWIFT, a system that facilitates cross-border payments between 11,000 financial institutions in more than 200 countries worldwide cut several Iranian banks, including the country’s central bank, off from its services on Monday. The move came as a result of US pressure and was described by US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin as “the right decision to protect the integrity of the international financial system.”

Max Keiser told RT that in pushing a hard line on Iran, the US will only force other countries to come up with alternatives, and stockpile gold to lessen their dependence on the almighty US dollar.

“The US puzzlingly seems to want to expedite global de-dollarization with its ill-advised weaponization of SWIFT,” Keiser said.

“The impact this is having globally is clear. Russia and China are developing an alternative to SWIFT while also buying hundreds of tonnes of Gold as a means to escape the $USD chokehold. This in turn will accelerate global de-dollarization.”

Russia has already drastically expanded its gold stockpile in recent years, as relations between Washington and Moscow have soured. As the Trump administration geared up to impose new sanctions on Moscow in August, the Russian government increased its holdings to over $83 billion, while simultaneously reducing its holdings of US debt from $96 billion in March to just $14.9 billion in May.

Whatever the long-term implications for the US dollar, Iran now faces a more drastic short-term problem. Without SWIFT access, the country cannot be paid for exports or pay for imports. With an economy reeling from US sanctions – applied in 19 rounds since President Trump withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or Iran deal, in May – Tehran might have to think outside the box to ensure its economic survival.

“Iran needs to get smart and start hoarding Gold and Bitcoin if it wants to avoid the worst of the fallout,” Keiser told RT. “It is already, smartly, pursuing bilateral energy deals outside of the $USD, but it needs to add value to its currency with reserves of Gold and Bitcoin.”

“The world is anxious to stop this madness,” said Keiser, who sees gold and cryptocurrency as the way forward for the “post $USD hegemony.”

In the meantime, EU leaders fighting to save the JCPOA enacted a ‘blocking’ law in August, prohibiting firms operating in the bloc from complying with the US sanctions. In siding with Washington, SWIFT may face penalties from Brussels for violating this law.

The Europeans have been working on an alternate payments system to ensure trade with Iran can continue to flow, but any viable system is still months away at least.

“Alternatives to SWIFT are relatively easy to create,” Keiser added. “The only thing stopping this from happening now is inertia.”

FARSNEWS2018/11/12
They Are Coming: Migrant Caravan Resumes March to US Border
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Central American migrant caravan begun another leg of their journey to the US border hastily reinforced by the Army and Marine Corps. The migrants previously made a days-long stop in Mexico City.

The caravan, made up mostly of Hondurans, but also nationals of other Central American countries, is now on the move towards the United States border. Migrants resumed their march north on Saturday morning after spending almost a week in Mexico City, RT reported.

Dozens of people waiting for trains in Mexico subway or boarding heavy trucks or buses somewhere outside the city. Others are seen using cars to continue their journey, A Ruptly video showed.

To get there, migrants will have to travel some 1,700 miles (2,735km) to the Northwest, a much longer route than to the nearest US border crossing at McAllen, Texas, which many consider to be the safest option.

Meanwhile on the other side of the US border, efforts are being made to reinforce it and make it less penetrable from the outside.

The US has deployed 5,200 troops to help border protection thwart what President Donald Trump has described as an impending migrant “invasion”.

For now, the active-duty servicemen have mainly been erecting barbed-wire fences along the border and building shelter accommodation for customs and border protection staff.

As the caravan approaches the US border, Trump has signed an immigration decree requiring asylum seekers to apply at their point of entry to the country and barring illegal immigrants from requesting asylum.

“We need people in our country but they have to come in legally and they have to have merit,” Trump told reporters before departing for Paris.

Migrant caravan members sue Trump for violating their ‘constitutional rights’
Twelve Honduran migrants are getting a head start on becoming US citizens by embracing that most American of pastimes: the lawsuit. They are suing the Trump administration for violating their Fifth Amendment due process rights.

The plaintiffs, including six children, are alleging that President Trump’s plans to block the 4,000-odd Central American migrants currently streaming northward toward the US-Mexico border are “shockingly unconstitutional.” They are also suing the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security.

The lawsuit points out that it is common knowledge that Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador are “undergoing a well-documented human rights crisis” and that asylum-seekers are allowed to declare their intentions anywhere, not just at lawful border-crossing points. They claim Trump has no right to keep migrants from entering the US when they have a credible claim of asylum.

Civil rights law firm Nexus Derechos Humanos is representing the migrants. The suit also claims the US is forbidden to send its troops across the Mexican border to block asylum-seekers because the claim process begins as soon as a prospective immigrant indicates they intend to apply for asylum. Ironically, it was right-wing Judge Antonin Scalia who determined in a 1993 ruling that “it is well established that the Fifth Amendment entitles clients to due process of law in a deportation proceeding.”

Asylum claims are granted based on the perception of “credible fear of persecution” in a migrant’s home country, as assessed in an interview, but because of the backlog of immigration cases, migrants often wait years before the hearing that determines whether they can stay in the US permanently. In conversation with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham last week, Trump proposed to build tent cities near the border to house asylum-seekers while they await their hearings, ending the practice of “catch and release” that he partially blames for the influx of illegal immigrants into the country.

Trump’s estimate of how many troops he wants to send south has been climbing steadily since the caravans started massing south of Mexico last month, and his fantasy army numbered about 15,000 at last count. There are currently about 5,200 troops at the border.

The lawsuit also questions whether Trump’s “tent cities” conform to the Flores rule, which prohibits the detention of minors for over 20 days and sets other limits on the conditions in which asylum seekers may be held. A California judge denied the administration’s request for a modification of Flores earlier this year.

The suit is ultimately looking for a legal declaration that Trump’s border plan is unconstitutional. Such a ruling would essentially throw open the gates to the hordes of migrants currently walking and being bused north through Guatemala and Mexico.

Social media reacted with confusion and amusement, marveling that the migrants had thought to pack a US lawyer with them, while others took note that the suit referred to Trump as ‘our’ President.

Iran says navy prepared to protect oil tankers from ‘any threats’ as US sanctions kick in
Following US warnings dissuading port operators from allowing Iranian tankers to dock, Iran’s top brass pushed back by reiterating that its navy is ready to protect ships against any threats.

Iran’s military is “prepared today as in the past” to protect against “any threats,” and to ensure the safe passage of Iranian oil tankers, Rear-Admiral Mahmoud Mousavi, a deputy commander of the regular armed forces, said on Monday, Iranian news agency ISNA reports.

He stressed that any “hindrances” to Iran’s right to use international waterways “would be clearly unacceptable.”

The comments come a week after the United States unilaterally re-imposed sanctions on Tehran’s oil, shipping and banking industries. Although it’s unclear whether other nations will abide by Washington’s diktats, US officials have hinted that Iranian ships will no longer be welcome in international waters.

“From the Suez Canal to the Strait of Malacca and all choke-points in between, Iranian tankers are a floating liability,” Brian Hook, US special representative for Iran and senior policy adviser to the secretary of state, said on Wednesday. “Self-insured Iranian tankers are a risk to the ports that permit them to dock [and] the canals that allow them to transit.”

Hook went on to warn that nations that ignore the US-imposed restrictions on Iran’s commercial fleet could face sanctions of their own.

Tehran has repeatedly threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz and halt Persian Gulf oil exports if its own oil exports are blocked. In recent months, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has held naval exercises in the Persian Gulf designed to increase preparedness for “confronting possible threats.”

National Security Advisor John Bolton said in August that shutting down the Strait of Hormuz would be a serious “mistake,” suggesting that Tehran was merely “bluffing.”

On November 5, the US put back in force all sanctions previously lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, which Washington unilaterally withdrew from in May. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the sanctions will remain until Tehran complies with a list of 12 demands. The ultimatum calls on Tehran to halt all nuclear and ballistic missile development, as well as ending the country’s alleged “support for terrorism.” Washington also says that Iran must completely withdraw from Syria before sanctions can be lifted.
