More than 10 Syrian soldiers killed by Kurdish forces in northeast Syria

FARSNEWS2018/9/8
TEHRAN (FNA)- Several Syrian army soldiers and Kurdish militants were killed and wounded in clashes in Hasaka province.
The Arabic-language al-Mayadeen news channel reported on Saturday that 11 Syrian army men were killed in clashes with the Kurdish militia in the town of Qamishli.
Meantime, the Arabic-language service of RT reported that the Syrian army and Kurdish fighters engaged in clashes on Hasaka road near the Red Crescent garage in Qamishli, inflicting tolls on both sides.
It quoted witnesses as saying that the clashes erupted after the Kurdish units detained tens of candidates in the Syrian government's local council elections in the province.
The Kurdish militants have detained over 250 candidates in Hasaka, threatening them to withdraw their nomination.
The incident happened as people in the town of Qamishli in Hasaka province have several times in the past few months poured into the streets, demonstrating against the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militias and hoisted the Damascus government's flag.
The Kurdish-majority SDF has been shooting at protesters and arresting them to control the Kurdish population, but reports say daily protests are growing across Hasaka.

Breaking: More than 10 Syrian soldiers killed by Kurdish forces in northeast Syria
BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:10 P.M.) – More than ten Syrian soldiers were killed today after a series of intense clashes broke out between their troops and the Kurdish forces in Qamishli city.

According to a military source in Qamishli, intense clashes broke out between the Syrian intelligence forces and Kurdish Asayish police in the city, resulting in the death of several involved.

The source said that in addition to the 10+ Syrian military personnel lost, at least seven Asayish fighters were also killed during the fierce engagement.

The attack occurred when three vehicles carrying Syrian soldiers were heading towards the military checkpoints to change personnel; it was at these checkpoints where the clashes began.

No one knows why the clashes broke out, but they have since died down, the source added.

Terrorists & White Helmets met in Idlib to prep for final stage false flag chem attack – Russian MoD
The Russian military has obtained “irrefutable” data that terrorist groups, including Jabhat an-Nusra, and the infamous White Helmets met in Idlib on Sunday, according to the ministry’s spokesperson Igor Konashenkov.

The militants plotted the final scenarios for the chemical attacks that the Syrian army are expected to make in the cities of Jisr ash-Shugur, Serakab, Taftanaz and Sarmin, the Russian military revealed.

“Full readiness of all participants involved in the staging of the provocations is be ensured by the evening of September 8,” Konashenkov stated. He added that the terrorists are to receive a “special” signal from some “foreign friend of Syrian revolution” to launch the operation.

・プロセッサ:Intel Atom X5-Z8350 Cherry Trail(1.44GHz/最大1.92GHz)
・OS:Windows 10 Home 64bit
LAN(Wi-Fi):IEEE 802.11b/g/n
・通信:BluetoothR4.0

Tehran

Erdogan says Turkey is working to ‘extinguish fire’ in Syria, not add to it
BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:30 P.M.) – The Syrian crisis will not be solved overnight said Turkish President Tayyip Recep Erdogan during a press conference alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Friday.

“Unlike others who have turned their back on the Syrian fire, we have tried to extinguish it,” Erdogan said.

The three leaders discussed international issues and trilateral cooperation, as well as recent developments in Syria.

The last Astana process meeting was held in Ankara in April and the three counties have been mediating a peace process for the Syrian crisis since 2016.

Driving out militants from Idlib now top priority in Syria – Putin
Driving the extremists out of Syria’s Idlib province should be the primary goal at this stage of the Syrian peace process, Russian President Vladimir Putin said following a meeting with his Turkish and Iranian counterparts.

The Russian leader once again said that Moscow has “irrefutable” evidence that terrorist groups entrenched in the militant-controlled province are seeking to stage false flag attacks using chemical weapons.

“Our common absolute priority lies in the total elimination of terrorists in Syria,” Putin said, adding that Russian forces had recently helped to liberate the southwestern part of the war-torn country and confirming that Idlib province has become the primary target now. “The presence [of militants] poses a direct threat to the … civilians in the whole region,” the president warned.

The president also expressed his hope that the militants “would have the wisdom” to lay down their arms and back down.

Turkey allegedly offers to evacuate all militants from Idlib
In a bid to avoid massive loss of life in the event of a major assault by Syrian government forces, Turkey has drawn up a plan that would allow militants safe passage from the northwestern province, the newspaper Daily Sabah reported.

According to the plan, unveiled by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a meeting with his Russian and Iranian counterparts in Tehran to discuss the war in Syria and a possible military offensive to retake the rebel enclave of Idlib, 12 armed groups, including the jihadist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, would surrender their weapons.

The fighters would then be evacuated to a buffer zone under the surveillance of the so-called moderate opposition on condition that they hand over their weapons to a coalition of militant groups backed by Ankara, the newspaper wrote without revealing its sources.

Foreign fighters would be allowed to return to their home countries, but the groups who refused to disarm and move out would become the target of counter-terror operations.

Turkey will then train a militant force to ensure security in the province, just like in other Syrian regions controlled by Ankara-backed fighters.

Fearing that a major assault on Idlib could cause “disaster” and send refugees streaming across its borders, Turkey has spent the past few weeks in intense negotiations with Russia.

US intervention in Syria should be stopped immediately – Iranian president
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has called for an immediate end to the American and Israeli presence on Syrian territory during a trilateral meeting with his Russian and Turkish counterparts.

The three leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iran’s Rouhani and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan gathered in Tehran on Friday to discuss how to stop violence in the war-torn Arab republic.

“The United States’ illegal presence in Syria, which has only led to escalation of the situation, must end immediately,” Rouhani said in opening remarks at the summit.

“In accordance with international resolutions and the demands of the Syrian people, the Israeli occupational regime must immediately leave occupied Syrian territories,” Rouhani told his counterparts.

Arming of Kurds by US in Syria a major concern for Turkey – Erdogan
The Turkish president has told his Russian and Iranian counterparts that the arming of Kurdish militias in northern Syria is a major cause of instability, which requires attention on par with the situation in Idlib.

He added that the Tehran summit may be the last chance to resolve the situation in Syria’s Idlib in a peaceful manner.

From Russia with wheat: Exports by global grain superpower soar 80%
The world’s top exporter of grain, Russia, has increased sales of its wheat abroad by 80.2 percent from January to July 2018 compared to the same period of 2017.

Statistics from the Federal Customs Service showed that in July the country shipped 3.8 million tons of wheat and meslin (a mixture of wheat and rye), up by almost 78 percent from the previous month. The value of exports rose by 74 percent.

According to the customs service, imports of wheat and meslin increased by 36.7 percent through July – worth $32.2 million. Overall, grain imports amounted to $227.8 million in the seven months of this year, down by 7.8 percent from 2017.

Russia has managed to capture more than half of the world wheat market in recent years, becoming the world’s biggest exporter of grain, thanks to bumper harvests and attractive pricing. In 2016, the country became the world leader in wheat exports. Since the early 2000s, its share of the world wheat market has quadrupled.

According to the Director of the SovEcon analytical center, Andrey Sizov, Russia’s agricultural export market is actively expanding. It supplies grain to Algeria, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, and Iran. Saudi Arabia has announced plans to become a major hub for Russian agricultural products in the Middle East.

Russia’s food safety regulator Rosselkhoznadzor reported that the growing exports of grain to China have reached historic levels this agricultural year. Some 1.23 million tons of grain has been supplied to the Chinese market since last July, the watchdog said. This week, US Wheat Associates (USW) has announced the closing of its Moscow office on October 1 due to lack of demand for American wheat in Russia.

It explained the decision by Russia’s “shift from being a net importer of wheat to become the largest single wheat exporting country in the world.” Overall, Russia’s agricultural production is projected to grow three percent this year, from last year’s 120.7 million tons. That would be the best-ever harvest for Russia, even counting the Soviet era.

Refugees or ISIS fighters? Cypriot authorities fear the worst after finding incriminating photos
Cypriot authorities suspect that ISIS fighters posing as refugees may have entered their country, a local daily reported, amid appeals to the EU to help with an influx of asylum seekers overloading the small island nation.

During a random check on asylum seekers’ mobile phones at the country’s refugee processing center, Cypriot authorities found saved photos of ‘refugees’ posing with weapons and dressed in Islamic State (formerly ISIS/ISIL) regalia, Cypriot newspaper “Politis” reported. The newspaper obtained two photographs, both showing men dressed in black holding AK-47s. One of the men is seen raising his index finger – a popular “salute” among Islamic State fighters and other jihadists. The refugees in question reportedly came from Dara province, which was liberated by the Syrian army in July.

The photos are currently being examined by the country’s security services and the suspected Islamic State members are being closely monitored, the paper said.

The discovery of the troubling photographs coincides with an official appeal to the EU for more help with migrants, with the small island nation warning it will be unable to cope if the influx of asylum seekers continues unabated. Cyprus has become a popular destination for asylum seekers, who reach the island by crossing into Turkey from Syria, and then embarking from the Turkish coast.

The country had received 4,022 asylum requests in the first eight months of 2018, which was 55% more than for the same period last year, according to Cypriot Interior Minister Constantinos Petrides.

In July, a boat carrying an estimated 150 migrants sank off the coast of Northern Cyprus.

Islamic State militants or other jihadists claiming to be asylum seekers has been a cause for concern throughout Europe, especially in the wake of a massive influx of refugees brought about by the EU’s open-door migrant policy. In August it was revealed that a Yazidi girl who had fled from the Islamic State slavery in Iraq was confronted by her former captor in Germany, who was posing as an asylum seeker. The teenager returned to Iraq after deciding that Europe was not safe for legitimate refugees like her.

Germany in particular has struggled with crime and violence linked to asylum seekers, after the country opened its doors to more than a million migrants two years ago. A German court recently sentenced an asylum seeker to eight and a half years for the murder of a teen girl, and incidents like the 2016 Berlin Christmas market attack and the New Year’s Eve sexual assaults in Cologne have fuelled insecurities.
