Skripal Case 13

Embassy: Russian Diplomats Must Be Allowed Access to Yulia Skripal to Know She’s Not Held Forcibly
TEHRAN (FNA)- Russia’s Embassy urged Britain to give direct access to Yulia Skripal after the release of her first interview since the Salisbury attack, since there are doubts that she has been held against her will or forced to make statements.

“We are glad to have seen Yulia Skripal alive and well,” the Russian Embassy in the UK said in a statement, adding that “however, the video shown only strengthens our concerns as to the conditions in which she is being held”, RT reported.

While the release of Yulia’s interview is most welcome, it “does not discharge the UK authorities from their obligations under Consular Conventions,” Russia’s Embassy reminded.

“The UK is obliged to give us the opportunity to speak to Yulia directly in order to make sure that she is not held against her own will and is not speaking under pressure. So far, we have every reason to suspect the opposite,” the statement read.

Yulia’s speech during the interview and the written statements in Russian and English she signed have raised multiple questions with Russian diplomats.

“Judging by quite a few elements, the text was a translation from English and had been initially written by a native English-speaker,” the embassy said, adding that “the handwritten letters signed by Yulia in Russian and English confirm this impression”.

In her first video appearance since the attack, Skripal said she was “grateful” for the offers of assistance from the Russian Embassy, “but at the moment I do not wish to avail myself of their services”. She gave a written and video statement to Reuters from an undisclosed location in UK where she says she's recovering after 20 days in coma following the attack.

The Russian Embassy has not been alone in its suspicions that Skripal could have given her interview under duress. The same impression has been shared by many on Twitter, including security analyst and former UK counterterrorism intelligence officer Charles Shoebridge. Others pointed to the apparent discrepancy between the UK’s claims that Russia sought to assassinate the Skripals and Yulia’s wish to return to Russia.

"I still find it difficult to come to terms with the fact that both of us were attacked. We are so lucky to have both survived this attempted assassination. Our recovery has been slow and extremely painful,” she said, adding that "the fact that a nerve agent was used to do this is shocking. I don't want to describe the details but the clinical treatment was invasive, painful and depressing”.

Skripal stated that the ordeal had turned her life “upside down,” both “physically and emotionally”. She stressed that she was now focused on helping her father to make a full recovery, and that “in the long term I hope to return home to my country".

Time for UK to Apologize to Moscow for Accusations Over Skripal Case - Embassy https://sptnkne.ws/hBju
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Russian Embassy in the United Kingdom said on Friday it was time for the UK side to apologize to Russia for accusations over the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal, as no evidence was provided by London to substantiate its claims of Moscow’s involvement during the three months which passed since the incident.

"Time has come for British authorities to apologize to Russia for the hollow accusations accompanied by an unprecedented anti-Russian campaign, to give answers to all the questions and requests officially sent to the British side on this matter, to engage with Russian law enforcement agencies that have opened the criminal case regarding the attempted murder of Yulia Skripal, and to stop isolating the two Russian citizens," the embassy’s press release read.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged to stop speculations on the so-called Skripal case and conduct a joint objective investigation instead.

"We need to either carry out a joint objective and thorough investigation, or simply stop talking on this topic, because it does not lead to anything but a deterioration of relations," he said.

Putin also questioned the alleged fact of poisoning of ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter by a military-grade nerve agent.

"I'm not a specialist in chemical warfare agents, but as far as I can imagine, if a warfare agent is used, the victims of this attack die on the spot, almost immediately. But nothing happened in this case. Skripal himself and his daughter are alive, and have been discharged from the hospital. His daughter looks quite alright, everyone is alive and well," the president stressed.

On May 1, UK National Security Adviser Mark Sedwill told the UK lower house defense committee that no suspects had been identified in the March's attack on the former Russian intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury.

In this Feb. 27, 2018 grab taken from CCTV video provided by ITN on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 , former spy Sergei Skripal shops at a store in Salisbury, England

Analysis by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) of the Salisbury incident confirmed the UK findings related to the nature of the chemical used in the poisoning, but did not include any information that would help the UK government substantiate claims about Russian involvement in the incident.

The United Kingdom and its allies have blamed Russia for an alleged role in the poisoning despite presenting no proof. Over a hundred Russian diplomats have since been expelled from these countries in solidarity with London and to put pressure on Moscow, which denies any involvement.

G7 Statement Shows UK's Accusations against Russia in Skripals Case Baseless
TEHRAN (FNA)- A representative of the Russian Embassy in London said the statement by the Group of Seven (G7) countries demonstrates that the United Kingdom has only "groundless accusations" against Russia regarding the Skripals case.

"As it happened after the meeting of the G7 foreign ministers in April, we again see groundless accusations against Russia, not based on any evidence. In their unfounded accusations, the UK authorities continue to rely solely on the allied 'solidarity', and can offer their partners nothing but the thesis that the poisoning of the Skripals 'has no other plausible explanation' than Russia's responsibility," the representative told Sputnik on Monday.

FARSNEWS2018/6/12
On Saturday, the G7 leaders adopted a joint communique following the two-day summit in Quebec, which also touched upon their policy toward Russia.

The nations urged Moscow to "cease its destabilizing behavior to undermine democratic systems and its support of the Syrian regime", and threatened Russia with further restrictive measures.

The document also supported the UK accusations against Moscow of the nerve agent attack in the town of Salisbury.

Russian Embassy: London Refusing to Cooperate in Glushkov, Skripal Cases
TEHRAN (FNA)- London still refuses to cooperate with Moscow in investigating Russian businessman Nikolai Glushkov’s murder and the alleged poisoning of former Russian military intelligence (GRU) Colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in the UK told the Russian media.

"Great Britain remains deafeningly silent, still refusing to provide answers to questions by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office and the embassy about the progress concerning Moscow’s requests about the murder of a Russian citizen and the attempted murder of Russian citizens on British soil," the spokesman said, TASS reported.

"We must say that Great Britain has shown a zero level of cooperation in investigating these high-profile cases. We believe that it is harmful to law enforcement activities aimed at finding the truth and restoring justice," the embassy added.

Glushkov was found dead at his London home on March 12. The Metropolitan Police said he had died from compression to the neck. At the same time, according to media reports, the businessman was strangled with a dog lead so investigators believe that the killer could have aimed at giving his death the appearance of suicide. On March 16, Russia’s Investigative Committee launched a criminal case over Glushkov’s murder.

According to London, Sergei Skripal, who had been convicted in Russia of spying for Great Britain and later swapped for Russian intelligence officers, and his daughter Yulia suffered the effects of an alleged nerve agent in the British city of Salisbury on March 4. Claiming that the substance used in the attack had been a Novichok-class nerve agent developed in the Soviet Union, London rushed to accuse Russia of being involved in the incident. Moscow rejected all of the United Kingdom’s accusations.

The British media initially reported that the Skripals were in critical condition and their odds of survival were minimal but both managed to recover. Yulia was discharged from the hospital in early April but her whereabouts have been unknown since then.

The Russian embassy in London many times requested the British authorities provide consular access to the Skripals who are both Russian citizens but all requests were rejected. "Considering all the facts, we now have more reasons to qualify this situation as an abduction of the two Russian nationals. We will continue to seek the truth and demand answers from the British side," Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko said in this regard.

Iranian MP Blasts Difference in Europeans' Words, Actions against US Sanctions
TEHRAN (FNA)- Rapporteur of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini lashed out at the European states for the difference in their words and actions in supporting Tehran against the US sanctions after Washington's withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal.

"The Europeans have shown that they are following the US path. That’s why their major companies are abandoning Iran under the pretext of US sanctions," Naqavi Hosseini said on Saturday.

He added that the European companies’ withdrawal from their projects in Iran shows that there is a big difference between their words and actions.

He added that the Europeans’ way of dealing with Iran’s demands has proven that all those inside the country who still are optimist about the success of the nuclear deal are wrong, calling the other side an enemy who should be treated the way they are.

The European signatories to a 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran--Germany, France and Britain--have vowed to keep the deal alive after President Donald Trump withdrew from it last month.

Trump announced on May 8 that the US would no longer remain part of the JCPOA and promised to re-impose the highest level of economic sanctions against Iran in response to Tehran's development of its nuclear program.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo later threatened Iran with the “strongest sanctions in history” if it did not comply with a list of steep demands, including ending uranium enrichment.

Iran has said it will remain committed to the deal for the time being, pending negotiations with other signatories to the JCPOA to see if Iran’s interests would still be protected under an accord without the US.

Tehran’s other partners in the deal – Germany, France, Britain, Russia and China – have all opposed Washington’s unilateral withdrawal and said they would still live up to their commitments as part of the deal.

After Trump's declaration, the Iranian government issued a statement, calling the US withdrawal as "unlawful". The statement underlined Iran's prerequisites for continuing the deal with the five world powers after the US pullout of the agreement.

US-Backed SDF in Eastern Syria Threatens Families of Army Forces
TEHRAN (FNA)- The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has set up 2 bases in Eastern Syria to recruit forces with Washington and Riyadh's support and pressure the Syrian army forces' family members.

The Arabic website of Sputnik news agency quoted local sources in Eastern Syria as saying on Saturday that the SDF has established two recruitment centers with the US and Saudi support, trying to coax the young people into joining the SDF by paying a monthly salary of 115,000 Syrian liras.

They also revealed that the SDF has taken hostage a number of Syrian army soldiers who had visited the Kurdish-occupied lands in Raqqa to see their family members.

The SDF also threatened the families with detention if their sons join the army.

The sources also said that the US forces have signed a deal with the Kurds to protect their 11 bases in the oil-rich regions, including 7 bases in Deir Ezzur, 4 in Raqqa, al-Shadadi, Tal Borak and Hasaka.

Meantime, new advanced French missile-launchers and artilleries have been transferred to the US bases in oil fields in Eastern Deir Ezzur.

In a relevant development on Wednesday, a group of Italian forces and military advisors arrived in one of the largest oilfields in the Eastern province of Deir Ezzur to provide backup for the SDF, a media source reported.

The Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency quoted local sources as saying that a number of Italian soldiers arrived in al-Omar oilfield that is under SDF's control and is one of the US forces' bases in Deir Ezzur.

Anadolu further said that the Italian group, including 20 soldiers and several military advisors, entered Hasaka from Iraq last week and later moved toward Southern Deir Ezzur.

The Italian forces' arrival in Syria came after French forces entered and deployed in regions' under SDF's control in Northern Syria almost three months ago.

US Attempts to Coax Tribes in Eastern Syria into Facilitating Terrorists' Transfer
TEHRAN (FNA)- The US occupying forces are attempting to open different ways to transfer terrorists between al-Tanf, Deir Ezzur and Homs by contacting the tribes in Eastern Syria for cooperation, media sources reported on Saturday.

The Arabic website of Sputnik news agency quoted tribal sources in Eastern Syria as saying that the US forces transfer the ISIL terrorists from the desert region bordering Iraq to al-Tanf through al-Sukhneh in Homs.

Meantime, one of the prominent tribal leaders in Eastern Syria revealed that Mohannad al-Tala, a US proxy and commander of the so-called New Syrian Forces group in the US base in al-Tanf, has contacted the Syrian tribes, calling on them to open a passage for the terrorists to leave al-Tanf for Deir Ezzur to reach al-Omar oil field.

He added that the US forces fear uprisings by the people in Eastern Syria, noting that one of their goals to approach the tribes is to keep deployment in the region as Washington attempts to win the cooperation of the tribes in Manbij, Hasaka and Deir Ezzur have all failed.

Meantime, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has freed its militant inmates and sent them to the battlefield to attack al-Tanf-Sukhneh road in Homs and open a passageway and the Jordan road to al-Tanf.

The US forces had in the past 10 days been busy with transferring the ISIL terrorists with at least 10 armored trucks and heavy artillery to attack Albu Kamal from Abu Hameseh in Hasaka.

In a relevant development on Tuesday, the Syrian army troops, backed up by the Russian Air Force, managed to preempt ISIL's heavy attack in al-Tanf region in Southeastern Homs, a media source reported on Tuesday, adding that the terrorists had planned to storm Palmyra (Tadmur) city in Eastern Homs.

The Arabic-language website of RT quoted a source in the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria as reporting that the army men, backed up by the Russian fighter jets, engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL that tried to storm Palmyra from al-Tanf region that is under US forces' control.

RT further said that the army soldiers fended off the attack after killing or wounding a number of terrorists and destroying their military equipment, adding that the remaining pockets of the ISIL retreated toward al-Tanf.

Al-Rukban Camp near the US-run al-Tanf Base has been turned into a base for terrorist groups, including the ISIL.
