Instagram Shuts Down Page of Iran's Hero General Soleimani Again!
TEHRAN (FNA)- Instagram social media networking once again shut down the page of Iran's IRGC Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani, who led the war that defeated the ISIL terrorist group, an unexplained move that has surprised many across the world.

The social media company didn’t provide any explanations for closing the account which had tens of thousands of followers.

This is the third time that Instagram has forced down General Soleimani's account. To much surprise, the social media network had also earlier deleted General Soleimani's post on annihilation of the ISIL terrorist group.

Instagram, Twitter and other tech companies claim that they have long policed their content for signs of extremism, but thousands of terrorist and extremist groups are operating on these social media networks. Until recently they have not been willing to discuss the details of their policies or procedures, which have been viewed as controversial because of the complex and political nature of the judgments behind removing messages.

But Western and Israeli politicians increasingly have applied pressure on US technology firms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to become more of an active partner in their fight against the popular resistance groups in places like Lebanon and occupied Palestine. So far, Silicon Valley appears to be receptive.

This is while Twitter and Instagram claim to be free and international, allowing anyone to sign up for an account and post what they please, which has made it an attractive recruiting tool for the terrorist group of ISIL with thousands of open accounts already.

However, Instagram has not explained why it has decided to close the page linked to the General Soleimani, who is the leader and top commander of campaign against terrorist and extremist outfits in Syria, Iraq and other parts of the region.

This is while social media users in different regional states, including Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, have on their pages hailed General Soleimani for leading campaign against terrorism in the region.

Pakistan Suspends Military, Intel Cooperation with US

Pakistan Suspends Military, Intel Cooperation with US
TEHRAN (FNA)- Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan said while addressing a gathering at Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad on Tuesday that Pakistan suspended military and intelligence cooperation with the United States in the wake of President Donald Trump's allegation that Islamabad has given the US "nothing but lies and deceit" and suspension of security aid for Pakistan.

Speaking during a seminar titled 'Contours of Security Environment of Pakistan' in Islamabad on Tuesday, Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan added that the US is facing defeat in Afghanistan despite spending billions of dollars, Dawn reported.

He alleged that the US is using Pakistan as a 'scapegoat' for its failures in Afghanistan.

"Pakistan does not want to put a price on its sacrifices but wants them to be recognised," the Defence Minister said, adding that Pakistan will not allow Afghanistan's war to be fought on Pakistani territory.

Khan also stressed that the US is busy in a blame game against Pakistan rather than providing it with assistance to secure the Pak-Afghan border.

The US Embassy in Islamabad announced that it had not been informed about the suspension of military cooperation by Pakistan.

The Pentagon on Monday announced it was withholding $900 million in security assistance for Pakistan, while Pakistani authorities are considering the option of blocking supplies of US troops deployed in Afghanistan through its territory amid the diplomatic tensions between Islamabad and Washington.

The United States has also announced that Washington is suspending national security assistance to Pakistan, claiming Islamabad is not acting seriously enough against militants.

US President Donald Trump’s tweet describing Pakistan as liars and cheaters provoked a wave of public fury in the South Asian country as Washington moved to withhold aid to Islamabad.

Trump has accused Pakistan of giving nothing to the US but "lies and deceit" and providing "safe haven" to terrorists in return for USD 33 billion aid over the last 15 years.

"They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!" Trump said, clearly indicating that Pakistan would no longer receive any security aid from the US till the time it sees a change in behaviour from them in fight against terrorism.

Trump in his new foreign strategy had also accused Pakistan of allowing terrorist safe havens on its soil, saying Islamabad must take action against terrorists who attack American forces in war-torn Afghanistan.

Relations between the two allies in the so-called war against terrorism have plummeted to new lows in recent years, mainly due to a clash of interests in war-ravaged Afghanistan.

Iranian Envoy Says Not Summoned by Turkish Foreign Minister over Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Ambassador to Ankara Mohammad Ebrahim Taherianfard rejected claims by some Turkish media that he has been summoned by Turkey’s Foreign Ministry over Idlib, Syria.
"The claims by some Turkish media about my summoning were false," Taherianfard said.
Taherianfard's remarks came after Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah and the country's news agency Anadolu agency quoted diplomatic sources as saying that the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned the ambassadors of Russia and Iran to protest the Syrian government's violations of de-escalation zone borders in Idlib.
The Turkish media added that the ministry had asked the envoys to urge the Syrian government to end the border violations.
Moreover, the official website of Turkish Foreign Ministry did not mention anything about the summoning of the Iranian ambassador.

Turkish Military Vehicle Destroyed in Rocket Attack in Northern Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- A military vehicle of the Turkish Army was destroyed by a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) fired by an unknown party after Ankara dispatched another military column to areas near the positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Northern Aleppo on Tuesday.

The Turkish army has sent a new military column, including several armored vehicles and equipment, to the town of Kilis at the border with Syria.

In the meantime, the al-Itehad press website reported that a vehicle belonging to the forces affiliated to the Turkish army was damaged in an RPG attack by unknown militants West of the town of Dar al-Izzah in Northern Aleppo.

It added that the vehicle was moving in the Turkish military column that crossed into Syria via Kafr Loseen border-crossing.

The Arabic-language website of Russia's state news agency, Sputnik, quoted a security source as saying on Sunday that the Turkish Army set up a field hospital in Qomlo region in Hatay province at the border with Syria.

Sputnik further said that the Turkish army was preparing for an imminent operation in a region between Idlib province and the town of Afrin, adding that security officials in Qomlo region adopted severe security measures, deploying a large number of policemen in the region.

A military source, meantime, said that more than 15,000 Turkish soldiers deployed in Kilis at border with Afrin, adding that the army dispatched a large volume of military hardware, including heavy cannon and personnel carriers to border checkpoints in Kilis region.

Drone attack on Russian bases in Syria came from Turkish-backed rebels – MoD
The recent drone attack on Russian bases in Syria was launched from an area near Idlib, which is controlled by Turkish-backed rebel forces, the Russian military said. Moscow reportedly complained to Ankara about the attack.

The assault last Saturday involved 13 primitive unmanned aircraft and was thwarted by the defenses of the two bases, an airfield near Latakia and a port site in Tartus. The Russian military said the drones had been launched from the village of Muazzara, in the south-western part of the Idlib governorate, which was designated a “de-escalation zone” under an arrangement negotiated by Russia, Turkey and Iran.

According to a report published Wednesday by a newspaper of the Russian Defense Ministry, the area is controlled by “moderate opposition” backed by the Turkish government. The ministry said it sent a formal complaint about the incident to the head of the Turkish General Staff, Gen. Hulusi Akar, and the national intelligence chief, Hakan Fidan.

The letters “stress the requirement that Ankara deliver on its promises to enforce the ceasefire on the armed forces under its control and to establish observation posts in the Idlib de-escalation zone to prevent similar drone attacks on any targets,” the report said.

The ministry also published a new photo of the drones involved in the attack, which were hijacked and safely landed by Russian troops before they could reach their target. The Russian military earlier stated that despite their crude appearance, preparing an attack with such aircraft required specialist skills, which the perpetrators may have received from a foreign party.

Russian military sites in Syria were targeted by two major attacks in the past two weeks, one on New Year’s Eve and another on January 6. The first assault, which reportedly involved an infiltration squad with mortars, resulted in two Russian service members being killed and reported damage to warplanes at Khmeimim Airbase. The second attack was far less efficient, thanks to the electronic warfare and anti-aircraft defenses of the two sites.

US approves $133mn interceptor missile sale to Japan amid breakthrough intra-Korean talks

US approves $133mn interceptor missile sale to Japan amid breakthrough intra-Korean talks
The White House has greenlighted the sale of four interceptor missiles that Tokyo wants to buy from Washington to “fundamentally” improve its defenses. The missiles can be deployed on land-based Aegis launchers.

The US State Department announced on Tuesday it had given preliminary approval for Japan to purchase four SM-3 Block 2A missiles manufactured by Raytheon Co and BAE Systems, related hardware equipment, and technological, engineering and logistics services provided by the US government and contractors. The deal will cost Tokyo at least $133.3 million, according to US State Department estimates.

“This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a major ally” by providing it “with an increased ballistic missile defense capability to assist in defending the Japanese homeland and US personnel stationed there,” it said in a statement.

The deal falls in line with the policy of US President Donald Trump’s administration of reassuring its allies in the region “threatened by the DPRK’s provocative behavior,” a State Department official said, according to Reuters.

North Korea ramped up its missile activity in the vicinity of Japan last year, firing ballistic missiles that repeatedly landed in the Sea of Japan, raising concerns in Tokyo. After its latest ballistic missile test on November 28, Pyongyang claimed that its new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Hwasong-15, is able to strike the whole US mainland. With its launch, North Korea has become “a state nuclear force.”

The Trump administration announcement coincides with much anticipated high-level talks between Seoul and Pyongyang that were held in the Korean demilitarized zone (DMZ) on Tuesday. The landmark negotiations, the first in two years, have led to a series of breakthroughs, with North Korea agreeing to reopen the diplomatic hotline, send a high-ranking delegation of athletes and officials to the upcoming Winter Olympics and hold military talks to reduce hostility between the nations.

While Pyongyang refused to discuss the topic of denuclearization with Seoul, the head of the North Korean delegation at the talks, Ri Son Gwon, told media that all North Korean weapons “including atomic bombs, hydrogen bombs and ballistic missiles” are aimed exclusively at the US and should not be deemed to pose threat to the self-isolated country’s neighbors.

Last month, the Japanese government approved the purchase and deployment of two Aegis Ashore batteries at the cost of some $2 billion, including infrastructure, with each unit of the system accounting for at least $888 million. The system is expected to be put into operation by 2023. The planned military build-up required the Japan’s Defense Ministry to seek a record-high $48 billion military budget for the next fiscal year starting April.

Moscow has criticized Japan’s plans to expand its missile shield with Aegis systems. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warning that the deal could undermine bilateral relations “including negotiations on a peace treaty” that has not been concluded between Russia and Japan since WWII.

The installation of the systems will constitute a violation of the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty between Moscow and the US, she argued, noting that the US-made ballistic defense systems are equipped with universal launchers that could carry all types of missiles.

Washington, however, brushed off Moscow’s criticism, saying that it in “full compliance” with the agreement while, in turn, accusing Russia of breaching it. Meanwhile, Japan stressed it was not party of the Soviet-American treaty and therefore its actions do not fall under its scope.

It was also reported that Japan is mulling the purchase of long-range cruise missiles for F-35A stealth fighter jets from Norway and is looking into the possibility of buying Lockheed Martin’s JASSM-ER and LRASM missiles with a range of some 900 kilometers (559 miles) to potentially mount them on F-15 fighter jets.

Israel has 'eyes & ears' on the ground in Iran − Mossad chief
Israel's national intelligence agency has people spying on the ground in Iran, Mossad chief Yossi Cohen said during a closed session at the Finance Ministry, according to local media.

“The Iranians are spreading across the Middle East with a vast array of forces, and there is little holding them back,”said Cohen, according to Arutz Sheva. Iran is on track “to realize its dream of creating what almost amounts to a land and air bridge allowing them to dump troops across the Middle East.”

"We have eyes and ears, even in Iran," Cohen said. He went on to warn that Iran is making significant advances in the region.

Cohen's comment comes just days after Iran's public prosecutor, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, accused Israel and Mossad of fomenting the unrest which has swept across the Islamic Republic. It also comes two months after an alleged Mossad spy was sentenced to death in Iran, after being found guilty of involvement in a string of assassinations of Iran's nuclear scientists, according to prosecutors.

Israel and Iran have long been arch rivals, with Tel Aviv accusing Tehran of developing nuclear weapons and of plotting to destroy the Jewish state. In December, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu compared Iran with Nazi Germany, citing their shared goal of exterminating all Jews.

Iranian officials have issued threats against Israel numerous times, with army chief Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi stating in September that Israel could cease to exist within the next 25 years. Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, expressed a similar sentiment in December 2016.

Iran accuses Israel of oppressing Muslims, of backing anti-Iranian groups, and of conducting covert operations on Iranian territory.

The two sides are also at odds when it comes to Syria, with Netanyahu and the CIA's director warning last month that the US and Israel wouldn't tolerate Iran's presence in Iraq or Syria.

Tensions between the two countries were once again worsened in December, following the decision of US President Donald Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Iran accused the US of "racist and hostile policies that unilaterally back" Israel, and accused Washington of a "lack of compliance" with international resolutions. During a parliamentary session in December, Iranian MPs also backed a bill which would see Jerusalem recognized as the capital of the Palestinian state.

Still, the union between Israel and its US allies shows no signs of being broken as they continue their vocal opposition against Iran. The two countries agreed to a partnership deal last month, aimed at dealing with the various aspects of "Iran's malign activities," a spokesperson for Israel's National Security Council (NSC) told Sputnik in December. Netanyahu and Trump reportedly agreed behind closed doors to set up joint teams to handle what they both believe amounts to an ‘Iranian threat.’

第二次大戦末期の3か月に沖縄から飛び立った爆撃機が 7,000 トンの爆弾を本土に落とした

Documents: US Launched Massive Attacks on Japanese Mainland After Taking Okinawa
TEHRAN (FNA)- Toward the end of World War II, the United States was able to launch massive attacks on mainland Japan after seizing Okinawa, dropping around 7,000 tons of bombs, a study of US documents shows.

The findings are based on an analysis of more than 10,000 pages of declassified military documents conducted by Kanto Gakuin University professor Hirofumi Hayashi, Japan Times reported.

The analysis helps clarify the overall picture of how US forces attacked the mainland from Okinawa, Masahiko Yamabe, a researcher at the Center of the Tokyo Raids and War Damage, said in Koto Ward.

According to the documents, which were found at the US National Archives, more than 65 locations in 13 prefectures in Southwestern and Western Japan were targeted from Okinawa, with 7,000 tons of bombs dropped in the last three months of the war.

US forces landed on a small group of islands West of Okinawa’s main island in March 1945, starting a fierce three-month ground battle.

The documents show that on May 13 the same year, Marine Corps F4U fighters flew from Okinawa’s Yomitan airfield to bomb a small island to the North. Four days later, two US Army P-47 fighters that took off from Okinawa conducted an attack on Kyushu for the first time.

Before then, the US had also used the Mariana Islands as a base for launching attacks.

The documents analyzed also refer to civilian casualties.

For example, an Army document describing an Aug. 10, 1945, attack states, “1 individual strafing pass on a large group of people numbering approximately 150 to 200 in the main street” in what is now Ebino, Miyazaki Prefecture, which resulted “in killing 15 to 20 people.”

Professor Hayashi, who specializes in contemporary history, said the documents make clear that “US military bombers and fighters carried out attacks on civilians indiscriminately, hitting small communities, areas where people gather as well as trains.”

Japan surrendered on Aug. 15, 1945, after the US atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, bringing an end to World War II.

ロシア軍が13機のドローン攻撃をかわす ラジオコントロールでドローン乗っ取りにも成功

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Russian anti-aircraft defense systems warded off the terrorist groups' heavy drone attacks on its bases in Lattakia and Tartus, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday.

The militants launched their assault during the night on Saturday, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the Russia-run Humeimim Airbase in the Syrian Lattakia province was attacked by 10 unmanned combat aerial vehicles, while three more attempted a strike against the Russian maritime logistics base in the port city of Tartus.

The extremists may have been aided by a “technologically advanced state,” it added.

All of the drones were detected by anti-aircraft defense systems “at a considerable distance from the Russian military objects,” the ministry said. Seven of them were then successfully shot down by the Russian Panzir-S air-defense system.

The Russian radio electronic warfare specialists also managed to override the operating systems of six more drones, and eventually gained control over the UAVs. Three of them were destroyed when they hit the ground, while another three were landed intact outside the base controlled by Russian forces.

The ministry also confirmed that the attack had resulted in no casualties among Russian military personnel, and the two bases “continue to operate as normal.”

It was the “first time that terrorists massively used unmanned combat aerial vehicles of an aircraft type that were launched from a distance of more than 50 kilometers, and operated using GPS satellite navigation coordinates,” the ministry said in a statement.

The country's specialists are now examining the seized unmanned aircraft and the recovered data has already allowed the specialists to pinpoint the exact location from which the drones were launched. The examination also showed that advanced technologies were used in the drones’ construction. They “could have been obtained only from a country possessing state-of-the-art technologies, including satellite navigation and remote control of … explosive devices (for) release at certain coordinates.”

It further added that detonators used in the militants’ Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were “of foreign manufacture.” These facts indicate that the extremists were supplied with technologies allowing them to carry out terrorist attacks using UAVs in any country, the ministry warned.

The Arabic-language website of the RT quoted Russkaya Fisna website as reporting on Sunday that Ahrar al-Sham terrorists, for the second day in the current month, carried out a drone attack on a center of the Syrian army troops that was under the supervision of the Russian military men.

The Russian forces were training the Syrian soldiers how to demine lands, the RT said, adding that the Russian soldiers were the main target of the terrorists' drone attack.

The soldiers around the center tracked and targeted the drone.

Military Expert: Terrorists' Drone Attacks on Russian Base Supervised by US

TEHRAN (FNA)- The heavy drone attacks on the Russian bases in Lattakia and Tartus were carried out by the terrorists who had undergone training by the US, a military expert revealed on Tuesday.

Aleksi Lionkov was quoted as saying by the Arabic-language website of Sputnik news agency that the terrorists' use of drones means that they have chosen a new tactic for their operations.

He added that the Russian military men at Humeimim airbase in Syria should be prepared for heavier drone attacks by the militants.

2018/1/9 南北朝鮮会談

North & South Korea agree to reopen military hotline at landmark talks
North and South Korea have agreed to reopen their military hotline, a South Korean government official told reporters. Much-anticipated intra-Korean talks, the first in two years, have been under way.

Normal communications between the two Koreas, via the hotline, are expected to resume on Wednesday.

Pyongyang had carried out the technical maintenance required to reopen the hotline with Seoul, on the peninsula's west coast, Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung said. North Korea informed its southern counterparts of this before midday.

Later on Wednesday, Seoul and Pyongyang agreed to hold military talks on easing border tensions and to improve ties, according to a joint statement issued after the high-level talks. The sides also decided to hold negotiations on the Winter Olympics and to activate exchanges in diverse areas. Both states are getting closer on the issue of joint marches at Olympic ceremonies, the South said.

The negotiations, involving high-ranking officials on each side, have been taking place at the border village of Panmunjom, a demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas.

North Korea had severed all communication hotlines with its southern neighbor in early 2016, during a spike in tensions that followed a rocket launch by NK. All emergency hotlines connecting the rival states were cut, following the South’s decision to stop operations at their joint industrial complex in Kaesong.

Earlier in January, the North restored the border hotline at Panmunjom in a move towards normalizing contact between the sides. The developments followed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s statement in which he said he was open to talks with the South and would consider sending a delegation to the Winter Olympics.

On Tuesday, Ri Son Gwon, who leads the five-member North Korean negotiation team, shook hands with his South Korean counterpart, Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon at the start of the talks, saying he hopes for “precious” results.

During talks, South Korea proposed reviving military talks with Pyongyang, which would include engagement on the critical issue of denuclearization. Seoul also suggested convening a reunification meeting next month for families separated by the Korean War.

The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games were also discussed. According to South Korean Deputy Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung, North Korea will send athletes and “high-ranking” officials as part of its delegation to the games. Chun also proposed that the countries’ delegation members march together at the opening ceremony.

The negotiations confirm that both North and South Korea are willing to talk, Joseph Cheng, a political analyst and professor at Hong Kong City University, told RT. “The negotiations are now an accepted option to all parties involved,” he concluded.

North Korea accepts offer of talks on Jan. 9 – Seoul
North Korea has accepted Seoul's offer to hold talks next Tuesday to discuss Pyongyang's participation in the Winter Olympics and other matters of mutual interest, South Korea's Ministry of Unification said, Yonhap reports.

On Friday, Pyongyang sent a statement to Seoul accepting the offer made on Tuesday to hold high-level negotiations on the border between the two Koreas. The discussions will cover possible North Korean participation at the upcoming PyeongChang Winter Olympics as well as other issues of "mutual interest," South Korea's unification ministry spokesman Baik Tae-hyun told a briefing.

"The North has accepted our proposal to meet at Panmunjeom Peace House [Korean Demilitarized Zone] on January 9," the spokesman said according to Yonhap News. "The two sides decided to discuss working-level issues by exchanging documents," and will focus on issues "related to the improvement of inter-Korean relations, including the PyeongChang Olympic Games."

During his New year speech to the nation, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un suggested the neighboring countries open dialogue on easing military tensions. While Seoul immediately welcomed the North's initiative, Washington at first urged caution, before opportunistically taking credit for the possible rapprochement between the Korean neighbors.

"Does anybody really believe that talks and dialogue would be going on between North and South Korea right now if I wasn’t firm, strong and willing to commit our total 'might' against the North. Fools, but talks are a good thing!" Trump tweeted Thursday.

1st contact in nearly 2 years: North Korea calls South via cross-border hotline

Prior to Pyongyang's acceptance of Seoul's offer Friday, the two Koreas reestablished a communication hotline which has been silent for nearly two years.
