BREAKING: Trump threatens to cut aid over UN Jerusalem vote http://aje.io/nkhsn

Haley in Letter to UN Members: I Will Report to Trump Who Votes Against US Jerusalem Decision
TEHRAN (FNA)- The US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley warned member states that President Donald Trump will take a vote on his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “personally,” and she will report back to him on nay-sayers at the UN General Assembly.

The US continues to defend its decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital. The day before the emergency session, Haley sent a letter informing other countries’ representatives that all those objecting to the US position will be reported to Trump. Haley stressed that the US leader will be “carefully” following the vote, according to Haaretz newspaper.

“As you consider your vote, I encourage you to know the president and the US take this vote personally,” the letter stated, according to the newspaper.

“The president will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back on those who voted against us," she added.

Earlier, the ambassador said in a tweet that Washington “will be taking names” of those “criticizing our choice” during Thursday’s symbolic vote, as resolutions passed by the General Assembly are not legally binding.

On Monday, the US was the only state out of the 15 members of the United Nations Security Council to use its veto power to block a resolution that called on all states to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in Jerusalem. The US mission then called the move “an insult,” saying that the organization is “doing more harm than good in addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

UN General Assembly to Hold Rare Emergency Session After US Vetoes Jerusalem Resolution
TEHRAN (FNA)- The UN General Assembly will hold a special session on Thursday, following a request by Arab and Muslim states, while the countries cited the US decision to veto a draft resolution on the status of Jerusalem.

According to Palestinian UN envoy Riyad Mansour, the General Assembly will vote on a draft resolution calling for Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel to be withdrawn. The same resolution, put to the UN Security Council, was vetoed by the United States on Monday, RT reported.

The US – along with Russia, China, the UK, and France – is a permanent member of the Security Council, meaning that resolutions cannot be passed if it exercises its “right to veto.” All other UNSC members voted in favor of the resolution on Monday.

The representatives are seeking to invoke UN Resolution 377, known as the “Uniting for Peace” resolution, which is the only way to circumvent a Security Council veto. The resolution states that the assembly can call an emergency special session to consider a matter “with a view to making appropriate recommendations to members for collective measures,” if the Security Council fails to act.

Only 10 such sessions have ever been convened, the most recent taking place in 2009 when the assembly called a meeting on East Jerusalem and the Palestinian territories. The Thursday meeting will be a continuation of that session.

Although UN General Assembly resolutions do not encounter vetoes they are not legally binding, unlike those passed by the Security Council. They are, however, seen to carry political weight.

President Assad: US-Backed Kurdish Militants Traitors to Syria

President Assad: US-Backed Kurdish Militants Traitors to Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that all US-backed Kurdish militants are “traitors” to the Syrian nation, ramping up the rhetoric particularly against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which are mainly active in Northeastern Syria through receiving vital substantial air and armament support from Washington.

“When we talk about those referred to as 'the Kurds', they are in fact not just Kurds. All those who work for a foreign country, mainly those under American command... are traitors” regardless of their names, Assad said, press tv reported.

The YPG is the main part of a larger coalition of fighters − the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) − which was engaged in operations aimed at capturing Raqqa, the former de facto capital of the ISIL terrorist group in the war-torn country. Washington considers the SDF, which also includes Arab militants, as its main proxy force fighting on the ground in Syria.

FSA Claims Halt in US Military-Financial Support
TEHRAN (FNA)- Washington has completely halted supply of military-financial back up for the Free Syrian Army in Syria, a militant-affiliated website claimed on Tuesday.

The Arabic-language Enab Baladi quoted one of the FSA commanders as claiming that the US supports via the two Coordination Rooms of MOM and MOC for the entire FSA-affiliated groups have come to a halt.

The commander who requested to remain anonymous told the Enab Baladi that the MOC and MOM Coordination Rooms do not exist any more and the FSA-affiliated groups have been informed that the will not receive any support from the US.

The MOC Coordination Room that was providing support for the FSA in Southern Syria was located in Jordan under the management of intelligence agents from the US, France and the UK.

The MOM Coordination Room was, meantime, supporting the FSA in Northern Syria whose command center was in Turkey.

An Arab media outlet reported in late November that Washington started dissolving the militant groups affiliated to the US-backed FSA deployed at a base in Southeastern Homs near the border with Jordan.

The Arabic-language al-Hadath news reported that the FSA-affiliated group of Jeish Maqavir al-Thowrah fired 180 members from the US-established al-Tanf base in Southeastern Homs after paying them $2,000 each.

In the meantime, some sources disclosed that Washington intends to end supporting the FSA and provide back up only for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Analyst believe that heavy defeats the terrorist groups have suffered in battle against the Syrian Army troops and the militant group's inefficiency to meet the US' objective have been the main causes behind Washington's decision to cut cooperation with the anti-Damascus militant groups.

Spokesman for the Maqavir al-Thowrah Abu Athir Khabouri denied dissolution of the FSA-affiliated groups under pressure by Jordan and the US, and claimed that the move has been done to get rid of those fighters who violated the group's rules.

North Korea Rejects Idea of Talks without Preconditions with US
TEHRAN (FNA)- North Korea snubbed US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s proposal for dialogue with Washington, stating that it will not give up its nuclear weapons programme and stressing that the final aim of any such initiative would be for North Korea to abandon its nuclear program, according to a report.

A commentary piece published on North Korea’s state newspaper Rodong Sinmun said Pyongyang was aware of Washington’s intention in proposing talks, and it was not an issue whether such initiative would come with or without preconditions.

Commenting on the fact, Rodong Sinmun underscored what the US seeks in proposing talks with or without preconditions is the nuclear dismantlement of the DPRK and there is nothing changed.

The DPRK has no interest in the dialogue intermittently put up by the US which is sneered by the international community for failing to mind its internal affairs, the commentary added, noting that as the DPRK has consistently insisted, the way to solve the issue between the DPRK and the US is for the US to drop at an early date its heinous hostile policy, which defines the DPRK as an enemy, and co-exist peacefully with the DPRK possessed of nukes.

Rodong Sinmun said the White House was pursuing a duplicitous policy in dealing with the country’s weapons program.

“Saying our nation is to be ‘utterly destroyed’ on the one hand, whilst saying ‘talk without precondition’ on the other hand is the Trump administration’s execution of the maximum pressure and interruption policy aimed at leading the North to the table for denuclearization,” the newspaper added.

The newspaper noted that as long as the US hostile policy and nuclear threat toward the DPRK are not fundamentally removed, the DPRK will never put its nukes and ballistic missiles on the table of negotiations nor flinch even an inch from the already chosen road of bolstering up the nuclear force. This is the fixed stand of the DPRK.

“The US is trying to shift responsibility for tensions on the Korean Peninsula to us with its dialogue offensive,” the Rodong Sinmun piece continued, as quoted by South Korea’s state news agency Yonhap.

“The move is seen as being intended to set the tone for manipulating new UN Security Council resolutions that may include a maritime blockade if we do not accept dialogue aimed at discussing the abandonment of our nuclear weapons,” it stressed.

Tillerson had signaled that the US President Donald Trump administration was ready to negotiate without demanding North Korea abandon its nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles programs.

He announced that Washington is ready to begin exploratory talks with North Korea “without preconditions”, but only after a “period of quiet” without new nuclear or missile tests.

“We are ready to talk anytime North Korea would like to talk. We are ready to have the first meeting without preconditions. Let’s just meet,” Tillerson said.

“And then we can begin to lay out a roadmap... It’s not realistic to say we are only going to talk if you come to the table ready to give up your program. They have too much invested in it," he added.

However, the top diplomat then laid down one condition and stressed that there should be a “period of quiet” in which such preliminary talks could take place, as he portrayed it as a practical consideration.

“It’s going to be tough to talk if in the middle of our talks you decide to test another device,” he said, adding that “We need a period of quiet.”

Tillerson’s comments came as leader Kim Jong-un vowed to make North Korea the “world’s strongest nuclear power”.

The secretary of state’s remarks appeared to mark a shift in state department policy, which had previously required Pyongyang to show it was “serious” about giving up its nuclear arsenal before contacts could start. And the language was a long way from repeated comments by US President Donald Trump that such contacts are a “waste of time”.

Tensions have been building on the peninsula following a series of nuclear and missile tests by Pyongyang as well as threats of war and personal insults traded between US President and the North Korean leader.

In 2017, North Korea carried out 20 ballistic missile launches, while the United States and its allies, for their part, are constantly conducting far-reaching sea drills in the region. The parties are exchanging tough rhetoric and admit that any scenario - including military action - is possible.

North Korea has been under a raft of crippling United Nations sanctions since 2006 over its nuclear tests as well as multiple rocket and missile launches.

Pyongyang has firmly defended its military program as a deterrent against the hostile policies of the US and its regional allies, including South Korea and Japan.
