Arab Analyst: Regional Nations' Wrath over Quds to Isolate Jordan, S. Arabia, Egypt
TEHRAN (FNA)- Abdel Bari Atwan, the editor-in-chief of Rai al-Youm newspaper, said the regional states quiet on the US decision to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel's capital will soon collapse as a result of their nations' anger and uprising.

"Trump is not the only one who has made a mistake in his calculations and assessments of the Arab and Islamic world's reaction to the recognition of the occupied Quds as the capital of the Israeli occupying regime. It is clear that Trump's closest allies in the region, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE, have also made a big mistake because they have adopted no strong and deterrent position against it, didn’t warn Trump about the consequences of his decision and showed no support for the Islamic Ummah's principles," Atwan wrote on Sunday.

"When thousands of angry protestors across Jordan for the first time in the country's history chant slogans against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and call him as the US mercenary and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is faced with similar slogans in several Arab states, it means that the so-called moderate Arab states have lined up with the US and Israel their collapse and isolation has started," he concluded.

In relevant remarks earlier today, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called on the Arab countries to declare their refusal to abide by Washington's decision to recognize Juresalem al-Quds as Israel's capital or face their nations' wrath.

"None of the former US presidents showed such an improper behavior but the current US president impudently did such a thing after phone conversations with a number of Arab leaders," Larijani said, addressing an open session of the parliament in Tehran on Sunday.

He added that based on behind-the-scene reports, the measure was taken following certain coordination with the Arab states to normalize ties with Israel and forget the tragedy of the Palestinian people, saying that if the reports are true, the Arab countries have sold their dignity for nothing.

"If the Islamic and Arab states don’t go a different path from the US, no dignity will remain for them and they will see the Muslims nations rising against them," Larijani said.

The US president last Wednesday defied global warnings, and said Washington formally recognizes Jerusalem al-Quds as the “capital” of Israel, and will begin the process of moving its embassy to the occupied city, breaking with decades of American policy despite widespread international opposition.

In anticipation of Trump's move, 151 members of the UN General Assembly voted last week to adopt a rare resolution that denounced Israel as the “occupying power” of Jerusalem al-Quds, a city that is holy to Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike.

The city has seen heightened tensions since 2015, when the Israeli military introduced restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque − Islam’s third holiest site.

Over 300 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli soldiers ever since.

Trump announced late on Wednesday that he would relocate the US diplomatic mission in Israel, a decision that the US Congress made in 1995 but all of his successors have deferred ever since.

Israel lays claim to the entirety of al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital while Palestinians want its Eastern part as the capital of a future state for themselves.

Palestinian leaders have warned that the potential relocation would fuel strong reaction in the region and deliver a death blow to any prospect of resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Trump’s move which overturns decades of US foreign policy has triggered a fresh wave of unrest in the Middle East.

FARSNEWS2017/12/13
TEHRAN (FNA)- US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel's capital isolated Washington's Arab allies, specially Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and gave an upper hand to Iran and Turkey, Abdel Bari Atwan, the editor-in-chief of Rai al-Youm newspaper, said.

"Trump's gamble which was extensively welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Jewish lobby isolated the most important US Arab allies, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and enhanced the position of two non-Arab states, Iran and Turkey," Atwan wrote on Wednesday.

He also referred to the Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani's support for the Palestinian resistance movements, and said this means that Iran has turned into the strongest ally of Palestinians and Intifada at a time when most of its Arab rivals in the Persian Gulf region are busy with normalizing ties with Israel and collaborating with Trump for Judaization of the holy Quds.

Atwan underlined General Soleimani's victories in the region against the terrorists in Syria, confrontation against the US and Israeli plot to disintegrate Iraq and liberation of Mosul and other Iraqi cities with the help of Hashd al-Shaabi (Iraqi popular forces), and said Trump's decision opened way for General Soleimani's influence in the occupied Palestinian territories.

"General Soleimani has not entered any war unless he has come out victorious," he reminded.

His remarks came after General Soleimani voiced Iran's full support for the Palestinian resistance movements.

He made the remarks during a Monday telephone conversation with commanders of Hamas' military wing, Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigades, who had been defending the blockaded Gaza Strip against Israel's acts of aggression, and the Islamic Jihad resistance movement.

The top Iranian general also urged all resistance movements in the region to boost their readiness to defend the al-Aqsa Mosque.

Deputy Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Abu Ahmed Fouad welcomed General Soleimani's support for the Palestinian resistance movements.

"Major General Soleimani is a skilled person and we welcome his statement," Fouad was quoted as saying by the Arabic-language al-Mayadeen news channel on Tuesday.

He stressed that the resistance is not alone and enjoys great capabilities, adding, "One of the most important reasons for continued Intifada is existence of a united leadership in all (resistance) groups."

This came amid simmering tensions in the occupied territories of Palestine following a decision by Trump to formally recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel.

Trump last Wednesday defied global warnings and said Washington formally recognized Jerusalem al-Quds as the “capital” of Israel and would begin the process of moving its embassy to the occupied city, breaking with decades of American policy.

The announcement prompted harsh international warnings that it would bring more chaos to the Middle East region. Several protests have been held in many countries over the past days against the US and Israel.

Okinawa schoolboy injured after window falls from US helicopter
A Japanese schoolboy has reportedly become the latest victim of the much-maligned US military presence in Okinawa. An American helicopter is said to have started falling apart directly above a schoolyard, resulting in injuries to the child.

On Wednesday morning, an angular object roughly 3ft (1 meter) across fell onto a sports field packed with elementary school children near the Futenma US military base in the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa. The object was discovered to be a helicopter window, complete with the frame, that had fallen off an American CH-53 aircraft flying above the school grounds.

One 10-year-old boy, out of some 50 children who were assembled in the sports field, was slightly injured in the incident, Reuters reports, citing a prefecture official. The exact cause of his injuries was unclear.

Three US helicopters were flying over the school at the time of the incident, according to Japanese media. They also report that there were around 30 children in the schoolyard and that the boy suffered an injury to his left hand.

The US Marines have admitted helicopter window fell on a children's sports ground, but have not clarified exactly how it happened. The US military also apologized“for any anxiety it has caused the community” and said an investigation into the “regrettable incident” is currently ongoing.

Last week, a US military aircraft dropped an object while flying over a nursery school in the same area. In October, the Japanese Defense Ministry vowed to ground all flights by CH-53E transport helicopters in Okinawa for an "indefinite period," after one of the aircraft crashed on the island.

Such incidents, as well as frequent scandals involving US military staff, have led to large-scale protests from locals and officials who are unhappy at the American military presence on Okinawa. The southern island hosts half of the 100,000 US personnel deployed to Japan, including 54,000 military personnel, 42,000 dependents, and 8,000 civilian employees of the Department of Defense.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee died early Tuesday, ending a decades-long career in city politics and activism and sending shockwaves across the city.

Lee, 65, was the city’s first Asian-American mayor. His cause of death was not immediately released, but former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown told local media that Lee had suffered a cardiac arrest.

“It is with profound sadness and terrible grief that we confirm that Mayor Edwin M. Lee passed away on Tuesday, December 12 at 1:11 a.m. at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital,” city officials said in a statement. “Family, friends and colleagues were at his side. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Anita, his two daughters, Brianna and Tania, and his family.”

Board of Supervisors President London Breed will become acting mayor, effective immediately, but the board may vote to replace her at any time. The city will hold an election on June 5 to name a mayor to finish out Lee’s term.

“Ed was a true champion for working people and epitomized the California spirit,” California Gov. Jerry Brown said in a statement. “He’ll truly be missed.”

Lee, the child of Chinese immigrants, was born and raised in Seattle and moved to the Bay Area to attend law school at the University of California, Berkeley. As a student, he became involved in advocacy by working for the civil rights group the Asian Law Caucus.

N. Korea Declares Political, Military Victory over US While UN Targets Its Human Rights Record

FARSNEWS2017/12/12
N. Korea Declares Political, Military Victory over US While UN Targets Its Human Rights Record
TEHRAN (FNA)- North Korea declared a political and military victory over the US as it accused Washington of trying to deflect attention from its Pyongyang failures by peddling “non-existent” human rights abuses at the UN.

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) discussed the human rights situation in the country Monday at the request of the US, UK and France along with six other non-permanent member states. The session was convened despite objections from Russia and China. Beijing argued that the timing of the meeting will further inflame tensions in the region, RT reported.

The meeting came days after Pyongyang fired a Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile late November, allegedly able to strike the large parts of the US mainland, following a more than two months respite. Russia, which condemned the launch, blamed Washington for provoking North Korea to act recklessly with its saber-rattling and large-scale military maneuvers.

Despite the warning by China’s UN deputy ambassador, Wu Haitao, that the meeting would be “counterproductive” at this time, it went ahead, after ten UNSC members voted “yes” in the procedural vote, with nine required.

Russia, which along with China calls for a de-escalation of the situation as outlined in its so-called double-freeze initiative, opposed the session as well. The double-freeze plan, if implemented, would see the US and South Korea pausing their large-scale military drills, with Pyongyang suspending its nuclear and missile program. The idea, however, has firmly been rejected by Washington.

North Korea’s permanent mission to the UN was furious, arguing in a statement that the West uses the issue of human rights as a pretext to ease its military and political defeats.

"It’s a desperate act of the hostile forces which lost the political and military confrontation with the DPRK that has openly risen to the position of nuclear weapon state," the mission said, adding that North Korea would not cave in to pressure.

If the US and other hostile forces think of browbeating the DPRK by the discussion of 'human rights issues' in the Security Council, it is nothing else than a daydream that will not be realized ever,“ it said, referring to the “human rights issues” as “non-existent.”

North Korea has long endured a raft of economic sanctions. After a series of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tests this summer, that were answered with fresh UNSC sanctions, Pyongyang said the measures were a “heinous US plot to isolate and stifle.”

PFLP Leader Welcomes General Soleimani's Supportive Position
TEHRAN (FNA)- Deputy Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Abu Ahmed Fouad welcomed Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani's support for the Palestinian resistance movements.

Soleimani’s comments came amid simmering tensions in the occupied territories of Palestine following a decision by US President Donald Trump to formally recognize al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel.

Abbas Pressured by Saudi MBS to Forget Palestinian Refugees, Quds

TEHRAN (FNA)- Saudi Crown Prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman has laid increasing pressure on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to give up his quest for the Palestinian refugees' right of return and for making Quds the capital of a Palestinian state, an Arab media outlet disclosed.

"Bin Salman has told Mahmoud Abbas to forget about the Quds case and the refugees' right to return to their country and start a bid to establish a state in Gaza," the Arabic-language al-Arabi al-Jadid news website reported on Tuesday, adding that the de facto ruler has promised "Abbas huge financial aid in return".

To get rid of the difficult conditions prevailing over the meeting with the Saudi crown prince, Abbas has asked bin Salman to present his offer in written so that he could put it under discussion at a meeting of the central committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), added the report.

Earlier, Reuters had also reported that bin Salman had proposed $100bln to Abbas if he agreed with the recent US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel's capital.

In anticipation of Trump's move, 151 members of the UN General Assembly voted last week to adopt a rare resolution that denounced Israel as the “occupying power” of Jerusalem al-Quds, a city that is holy to Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike.

US holds massive military drills aimed at North Korea despite warnings from Moscow
US and Japanese warplanes held joint exercises south of the Korean peninsula, in what has been described as one of the largest military drills to date aimed at North Korea. Moscow warned that the exercises will “increase tension” with Pyongyang.

Four Japanese F-15 fighters on Tuesday held drills with American B1-B bombers, F-35 stealth fighters and F-18 combat jets above the East China Sea, south of the Korean peninsula, Japan’s Air Self Defence Force (ASDF) confirmed.

Described as among the largest joint exercises of its kind to date, the drill included American aircraft stationed in Guam and Japan.

“The drill was meant to bolster joint operations and raise combat skills,” the ASDF said in a statement, as cited by Reuters.

On Monday, Russian military chief General Valery Gerasimov warned Japan that participating in military exercises with the United States around the Korean Peninsula could escalate regional tensions with North Korea.

During his visit to Tokyo, Gerasimov told Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera that military drills aimed at pressuring Pyongyang to abandon missile testing could “increase tension and bring instability.” “We believe that the issue should be resolved only through political and diplomatic means,” said Gerasimov, as quoted by Russian media.

Washington, Seoul and Tokyo began joint “missile tracking” drills on Monday. The new round of military exercises comes just days after the US and its allies concluded massive air maneuvers over the Korean Peninsula.

Moscow and Beijing have advocated for a “double freeze” agreement, in which North Korea would halt missile testing in exchange for the US curtailing military drills in the region.

“These exercises fuel the flames of an already existing conflict where we are having hundreds of military planes fly along the border with North Korea, this is particularly dangerous. It is really necessary to look seriously at the offer of freezing these military exercises, freezing this nuclear program and engaging in dialogue, something that we have not just seen the North Koreans and Washington getting together on,” author and human rights attorney Eric Sirotkin told RT on Monday.

Washington has not changed its hardline stance on North Korea’s nuclear program and missile testing. The US military is reportedly in talks with South Korea on the timing of large-scale annual military exercises that would likely coincide with next year's Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. However, in an uncharacteristic move towards de-escalation, Washington and Seoul are considering delaying the joint military drills until after the winter games in February in a bid to reduce tensions with North Korea, according to separate reports by Bloomberg and the Financial Times.

セルビア、ハンガリー、クロアチア国境で警官が難民に暴行

FARSNEWS2017/12/12
TEHRAN (FNA)- According to a report by a watchdog group, refugees and migrants attempting to cross from Serbia into neighboring European Union countries endured illegal deportations and widespread police violence, including beatings and electric shocks.

The findings by German monitor, Rigardu, paint a grim picture of systematic abuse on the borders of Serbia - which is not an EU country - and Hungary and Croatia, which are both members of the bloc, Al-Jazeera reported.

The group announced that it had documented at least 857 instances of people being subjected to violence, including kicking and dog bites, so far this year. Of that total, 52 incidents involved minors.

Rigardu also recorded at least 110 cases of Hungarian and Croatian authorities carrying out illegal deportations to Serbia. There were also allegations of push-backs by Slovenian officers on the country’s border with Croatia.

Using photographic evidence and first-person testimonies, Rigardu has now launched an online database to document individual cases of violence and push-backs by EU countries' forces along the so-called Balkan route.

The group said the actual number of such incidents is likely to be far higher since many cases of push-backs and police violence often go unreported.

Lazara Marinkovic, a Serbian journalist who has covered the refugee crisis for several years, said reports such as the one published by Rigardu "are very common and the testimonies are consistent with the injuries" she had observed on several occasions.

"Most of the violent push-backs come from Croatian and Hungarian border police. I've met a lot of people who showed me their phones had been broken and their injuries," she added.

ワシントンがアサドの任期全うを認める方向に傾く 新しい信頼できる反対勢力が当面見込めないため

FARSNEWS2017/12/12
White House Ready to Accept Bashar Assad’s Rule in Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- Recent ISIL's defeat in Syria, as well as the government forces gaining control over the majority of territories previously seized by opposition or militants, prompted the US change in attitude toward Bashar Assad.

Donald Trump's administration is prepared to accept the continuation of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s rule until the country's next presidential election, set for 2021, The New Yorker newspaper reported, citing unnamed US and EU officials, explaining that depending on the results of the next US presidential election in 2020, he might still be in power, when the incumbent US president leaves office.

This stance contradicts Washington's previous statements, which have supported the Syrian opposition, urging Assad to step down as part of the crisis settlement. However, due to the latest developments in the region, the defeat of the ISIL in Arab Republic, has again sparked intense discussions on the country's future, as well as the political settlement.

After over six years of the conflict, Damascus has regained control over the majority of territories previously seized by the rebels or militants and the opposition.

According to the media outlet, in the peace process, the United States had been largely sidelined by Russia, Iran, and Turkey, which have also initiated the Syrian settlement negotiations held in Astana, thus driving Washington to change its course.

Taking into consideration political and military realities, US officials have reportedly decided that transition of political power in Syria will depend on elections in the country, held under the auspices of the UN. Nevertheless, in Syria, devastated by the war, holding such a vote would be a challenge, according to diplomats, cited by the outlet, which added that new and credible opposition would need time to emerge.

While the eighth round of the talks in Geneva resumed on Monday, the Syrian government delegation returned to the negotiations' table after refusing to participate in last week’s talks due to the opposition’s call for Assad to leave.

The principal stumbling block for all the Syrian sides to settle the conflict is the formation of a transitional governing body in Syria, because the opposing powers have polar opposite views on the potential role of current President Assad in it. The opposition insists Assad "must go" at the very beginning of the transitional period, while the government cannot accept this and calls it a precondition for direct talks.

The war has been raging in Syria since 2011, with government forces fighting numerous opposition factions and terrorist groups. The international community has taken a number of steps aimed at settling the crisis, including through intra-Syrian talks in Geneva and reconciliation negotiations in Astana.
