Moscow, Cairo Agree on Stronger Coordination to Assist Syria Settlement
TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that he had agreed with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on strengthening coordination to assist political settlement in Syria.

"I have informed Mr. President [of Egypt] on steps Russia is taking to normalize the situation in Syria," Putin said after his talks with the Egyptian president, adding that "I also told him about my trip to Syria today", TASS reported.

"We agreed with Mr. el-Sisi to strengthen coordination for the purpose of assisting long-term political settlement of the Syrian crisis," the Russian president stressed.

Almost all of Syria’s territory has been liberated from terrorists, Putin said.

"I think that the tasks, which had to be solved with the broad use of the Russian Armed Forces, have been fulfilled as a whole," the Russian president added.

Putin added that he was grateful to the Egyptian leadership for the support of Russia’s initiative to convene a Syrian National Dialogue Congress.

"We intend to draw to its work very diverse opposition groups, including representatives of the so-called Moscow and Cairo platforms," he said.

Putin announced that the approaches of Moscow and Cairo on many international aspects generally either fully coincide or are very close to each other.

Specifically, the Russian and Egyptian presidents discussed the situation in Libya and both leaders spoke for ensuring stability and security in that country, restoring its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, Putin said.

The Egyptian president has argued in favor of expanding de-escalation zones in Syria in Cairo on Monday after negotiations with Putin.

"It is necessary to practice de-escalation zones in Syria and expand them," he noted, adding that "We confirmed the need to peacefully settle the Syrian crisis."

Speaking about the Libyan problems, el-Sisi pointed out, in particular, that "uniting all international efforts is important for settling the instability in Libya."

"We support the efforts of the UN envoy in the region and support holding of parliamentary and presidential elections in order to stabilize the situation, as well as unite all political forces of the country," he said.

プーチンがシリアからのロシア軍引き揚げを命令 7か月で32,000人を殺害

Putin orders withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria during surprise visit to Khmeimim Airbase
Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit to Khmeimim Airbase in Syria’s Latakia province on Monday morning. He ordered the start of the withdrawal of Russian troops from the country.

“I order the defense minister and chief of the general staff to start the withdrawal of Russian troops to the site of their permanent deployment," Putin stated, speaking in front of Russian military personnel at Khmeimim.

The Russian leader added that in the space of two years the Russian and Syrian militaries have “defeated the most battle-hardened grouping of international terrorists.”

Russia: Over 32,000 Gunmen Killed in Anti-Terrorism Operations in Syria in Last Seven Months
TEHRAN (FNA)- More then 32,000 terrorists have been killed and thousands more have been wounded in anti-terrorism operations across Syria in the last seven months, Commander of Russia’s military group in Syria Colonel-General Sergey Surovikin said.

"More than 67,000 square kilometers of Syrian territory, more than 1,000 localities, 78 oil and gas fields and two deposits of phosphate ores have been recaptured. Military planes have flown 6,956 sorties and helicopters, more than 7,000 sorties. More than 32,000 militants, 394 tanks and more than 12,000 pieces of other military equipment were eliminated," Surovikin said in a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

Surovikin further declared the beginning of military pullout from Syria.

"Upon completion of the operation to defeat the ISIL in Syrian territory the military contingent was ordered and has already begun to withdraw forces, including 25 aircraft (23 different planes and two Ka-52 helicopters) and military personnel - the military police force, the commando unit, the field hospital and the mine-clearing center," he said. "The remaining force will be able to cope with its tasks as effectively," the Russian general said.

Putin on Monday ordered the Russian troops' withdrawal from Syria, saying that Russian forces return from Syria with victory.

"I instruct the defense minister, the head of the General Staff to begin the withdrawal of the Russian group of troops to the places of their permanent location," Putin said, when speaking to servicemen in Syria.

Putin emphasized that if terrorists gain upper hand in Syria, Russia will carry out strikes that "they've never seen."

Putin was met by Syrian President Bashar Assad and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, when arrived at the Humeimim base in the Lattakia province for the first time since the launch of anti-terrorist operation in the Arab Republic at the request of Damascus in 2015.

Arab Analyst: Putin's Order to Withdraw Russian Troops from Syria Message to Washington

TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian President Vladimir Putin's order to withdraw the country's forces from Syria was meant to disarms the US from any excuse to keep its troops in the region, Abdel Bari Atwan, the editor-in-chief of Rai al-Youm newspaper, said.

"Addressing the Russian pilots, Putin announced that the mission is accomplished. He, as the highest-ranking official in the Russian Armed Forces, issued certain orders in this regard and ordered most of the Russian pilots and fighter jets to leave Syria and return home," Atwan wrote on Tuesday.

He stressed that Putin's order had a message to the US. "The Russian president wanted the US not to have a pretext to keep its forces in Iraq and Syria."

He said the two countries’ forces would respond with power strikes if “terrorists raise their heads” in Syria.

Addressing Russian servicemen gathered at the base, he said, “The task of fighting armed bandits here in Syria, a task that it was essential to solve with the help of extensive use of armed force, has for the most part, been solved and solved spectacularly. I congratulate you. You have shown the best qualities of a Russian soldier.”

In the televised speech, Putin said he had ordered the military to withdraw a “significant part” of the Russian contingent in Syria. “Friends, the motherland is waiting for you,” he said. “If the terrorists again raise their heads, we will deal such blows to them they have never seen.”

North Korean Conflict May Be Settled by Diplomatic Means Only

Russian Diplomat: North Korean Conflict May Be Settled by Diplomatic Means Only

TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that the conflict on the Korean Peninsula can be settled only through a political and diplomatic way in accordance with the Russian-Chinese roadmap.

"We shared our opinions regarding the situation on the Korean Peninsula that remains extremely tense," Lavrov said on Monday after the 15th RIC (Russia, India and China) ministerial meeting, TASS reported.

"We pointed to the absence of an alternative to the solution of the specified problem solely by political and diplomatic means: in line with the Russian-Chinese roadmap," he added.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula remains extremely tense. In 2017, North Korea carried out 20 ballistic missile launches. The United States and its allies, for their part, are constantly conducting far-reaching sea drills in the region. The parties are exchanging tough rhetoric and admit that any scenario - including military action - is possible.

誰がそんなワシントンの約束を信じるだろうか 韓国のTHAAD配備終わる

South Korean President: THAAD Deployment Not to Undermine China’s Security
TEHRAN (FNA)- South Korea deployed the final units of the THAAD missile defense system, now the county’s president is seeking to allay Chinese fears regarding the security balance in the region.

"South Korea will pay special attention to the fact that THAAD [missile defense system] will not be used elsewhere, except for defense against North Korean nuclear weapons and missiles, it will not undermine China's security interests. The American side has repeatedly said that it respects the promises made on this issue," South Korean President Moon Jae-in told the CCTV broadcaster in the light of his upcoming three-day visit to China, set to start on Wednesday.

The statement was made amid sharp criticism from China, caused by the deployment the THAAD final units to South Korea in September, which Seoul and Washingtonconsider to be an important military deterrence measure against a potential nuclear strike from North Korea, but viewed by Beijing as a move that might undermine the security balance in the region and Seoul's credibility.

In late October, South Korean President traveled to Beijing for a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which led to the agreement to normalize bilateral relations affected by the deployment of the system.

Meanwhile, on December 11 Japan, South Korea and the US began joint military drills, the sixth trilateral exercises between the nations since June 2016, criticized by Beijing. The two-day exercise is taking place in the Sea of Japan and involving four warships: the Japanese JDS Chokai guided missile destroyer, the South Korean DDG Seoae Ryu Seong-ryong destroyer, and the American USS Stethem and Decatur guided missile destroyers.

China is North Korea's key trade partner, accounting for more than three-quarters of all their foreign trade, with Russia a close second. Both nations have agreed to UN sanctions levied against North Korea as retaliation for the expansion of their nuclear missile program.

ロシアのボランティア軍兵士を誘拐したテロリストをシリアのエリート部隊が殺害 ロシアがデリゾールに基地設営

Syrian Army Special Unit Hunts Abductors of Russian Volunteer Forces in Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- A newly-formed Battalion of the Syrian Army's elite forces, known as ISIL Hunters, tracked and targeted a group of ISIL terrorists that had kidnapped and executed two Russian volunteers in Eastern Syria, killing the entire militants, the Russian news websites reported on Sunday.

The websites quoted the ISIL Hunters as saying that the Battalion identified and tracked a group of ISIL terrorists that had kidnaped and executed Roman Vasilievich Zabolotny and Grigory Mikhailovich Surkanov, two Russian volunteers, in early October.

Also, the ISIL Hunters announced in a statement that the Battalion carried out track and target operation in Deir Ezzur and managed to kill the entire abductors of the terrorist group.

Western media sources reported in September that Russia was about to establish a new military base in Deir Ezzur that would be the Russian forces' largest base in the war-hit country after Humeimim airbase in Lattakia.

The Arabic-language al-Ahd news website quoted western media sources as reporting that Russia was to set up a new large military base in Deir Ezzur due to its regional and international strategic importance.

Al-Ahd added that the long distance between the Russia-run Humeimim airbase and Eastern or Central Syria and the superior capabilities and features of Deir Ezzur airbase were two other reasons for Moscow's decision.

In the meantime, proximity of Deir Ezzur to the US bases in Iraq and Syria's main oilfields, on which Russia was keen to invest, were mentioned among other reasons, al-Ahd pointed out.

The website went on to say that Moscow's decision to set up a military airbase in Deir Ezzur was also mainly aimed at preventing the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces from crossing the Euphrates River to rush towards South that is home to the richest oilfields in Syria.
