Daily Voices Regret over Arab Leaders' Silence on Trump's Insults to Muslims

TEHRAN (FNA)- A leading Arab daily referred to the recent tweets by US President Donald Trump against Muslims, and said the silence of the Arab states over his insults is a source of deep regret.

"Trump's racist move incites extremist groups, and the Arab countries' officials who are well aware of Trump's record of insulting Muslims have kept mum and welcome him and sign lucrative deals with the US every day," al-Ray al-Youm newspaper wrote on Saturday.

"The silence of certain Arab leaders, specially of the Persian Gulf littoral states, on Trump's racist and extremist approach which will pave the ground for the emergence of extremist groups and victimize the Muslims is regretful," it added.

The newspaper expressed surprise that certain Arab leaders welcome Trump's positions and accompany him in wars against Muslim people and justify them and gift him billions of dollars through investment or arms deals with Washington.

Trump retweeted a handful of anti-Muslim videos posted by the deputy leader of a British far-right group, prompting a rare condemnation of the US president by British Prime Minister Theresa May whose official spokesperson called Trump’s actions wrong.

Trump’s decision to share the tweets was labelled “abhorrent, dangerous and a threat to our country” by the British Labor party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, while several other members of parliament said his planned state visit should be cancelled.

Al-Baghdadi Orders ISIL Commanders to Send More Child Soldiers to Battlefields
TEHRAN (FNA)- ISIL's Chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has ordered the terrorist group's commanders in Libya to send more child soldiers to the war after ISIL's recent heavy defeats in Syria and Iraq, media outlet reported on Saturday.

Asharq al-Awsat daily reported that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has written in one of his letters to the ISIL commanders in Libya that the ISIL is facing a long hard war, urging the commanders to recruit more child soldiers to cover the terrorist group's heavy casualties in the battlefields in Syria and Iraq.

Media sources said on Thursday that they gained access to letters sent by ISIL ringleader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to other commanders of the terrorist group in Libya after his repeated failures in Syria and Iraq.

The Arabic edition of al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper reported on Thursday that al-Baghdadi's letters, some of them written last year and some of them in the past few weeks, indicated that the ISIL leader was after making up for his defeats in Syria and Iraq by calling on the terrorist groups' commanders and members to go to Libya.

It added that the letters written to 13 of al-Baghdadi's deputies and commanders in Libya stressed the need for them to use Southern Libya as a place for recruiting the members who fled from the East in a bid to finally target Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria.

An Arab media outlet reported earlier this month that al-Baghdadi was still alive, adding that the terrorist group's ring leader was sighted by eyewitnesses in one of the battlefields in Southeastern Deir Ezzur.

The Arabic-language Elam al-Harbi reported that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the commander of the ISIL terrorist group, was sighted alive in one of the battlefields near the newly-freed town of Albu Kamal at the border with Iraq.

No more details were released about the report.

Contradictory reports have surfaced the media on the fate of Al-Baghdad in the last two years, while some claim that he has been killed in attacks in Iraq or Syria, others say that he is still alive and on the move.

ISIL's Baghdadi Still Alive, Hides at Iraq-Syria Border Region
TEHRAN (FNA)- Spokesman for the Iraqi Defense Ministry General Yahya Rasoul said on Saturday that ISIL's Chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is still alive, adding that al-Baghdadi has hidden somewhere at Iraq-Syria border.
General Rasoul said that the Iraqi intelligence has found evidence proving that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is in a sleeper cell of the ISIL terrorists at Iraq-Syria border.
He further said that sleeper cells of the ISIL are still present in desert regions at Iraq-Syria borders, adding that based on intelligence al-Baghdadi is moving from a cell to another in the region.
General Rasoul added that al-Baghdadi has hidden in a region between the Iraqi border town of al-Qa'em in Anbar and the Syrian town of Albu Kamal near the Euphrates River.

Iraqi Commander: ISIL's Baghdadi in US Forces' Custody
TEHRAN (FNA)- One of the commanders of the Iraqi popular forces of Hashd al-Shaabi said on Sunday that Leader of the ISIL terrorist groups Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is in the US forces' custody in an unknown venue.

The Arabic-language al-Sumeriyeh news quoted Jabar al-Ma'amouri as saying that ISIL Chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been in the US military forces' custody, adding that the US forces will never kill al-Baghdadi unless in a Hollywood-like scenario.

He further said that people around the world rest assured that the US has played a crucial role in the creation of the terrorist groups in last decades, and unfortunately some of the Arab nations embarked on providing financial support for such terrorist groups.

Israel strikes Syrian ‘military targets’ near Damascus – reports

Israel strikes Syrian ‘military targets’ near Damascus – reports
The Israeli Defense Forces launched several missiles at a strategic target close to the Syrian capital Damascus, Israeli and Arab media reported, saying it was an airstrike. Syrian state TV said “military positions” were targeted by surface-to-surface missiles.

Several missiles were reportedly fired toward a target in the countryside south of Damascus, with some intercepted by the Syrian Air Defense and others hitting their intended target.

Arab outlet Al-Masdar News, citing its sources, reported that the target was an ammunition depot of the Syrian Army, located between the towns of Kiswah (Kesweh) and Sahnaya. "Loud explosions" were heard as the missiles hit their target, the news service said.

Israel has previously carried out airstrikes targeting Syrian territory, either claiming to be targeting positions of the militant group Hezbollah or retaliating in response to stray projectiles that occasionally cross the border into the Israeli-occupied side of the Golan Heights.

However, in early November an Israeli attack hit a copper factory in the Syrian province of Homs, prompting Damascus to urge condemnation of Israel's actions at the UN.

Israeli officials have long accused Iran of trying to establish a military foothold in Syria, where Tehran has been supporting Damascus's fight against ISIS and other terrorists. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, the goal is “using Syria as a base from which to destroy Israel.”

Other sources, however, claim the target was an alleged Iranian military base in the Kiswah area, some 13 kilometers (8 miles) from the city of Damascus. Reports on the alleged airstrikes in some Israeli outlets were then taken down for several hours.

The warplanes reportedly launched the missiles from Lebanese airspace.

The engagement of Israeli missiles by Syrian anti-aircraft troops was confirmed by some Syrian media, although their reports claimed that they had been fired not by Israeli aircraft but rather from ground positions. According to the state-owned Al-Ikhbariya TV channel, two missiles were shot down.

Videos have emerged on social media purporting to show the moment one of the Israeli missiles was intercepted by Syrian Air Defense.

RT2017/12/1
EU resolution calls for arms embargo against Saudi Arabia, accuses it of war crimes
The European Parliament has adopted a resolution, which calls for an EU-wide embargo on arms sales to Saudi Arabia over the alleged war crimes it has committed in Yemen. The resolution also criticizes EU members selling arms to the Gulf kingdom.

The EU parliament “condemns in the strongest terms the ongoing violence in Yemen and all attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, which constitute war crimes,” the resolution passed on Thursday says. It goes on to say that “dozens of Saudi-led airstrikes have been blamed for indiscriminately killing and wounding civilians in violation of the laws of war, including through the use of internationally banned cluster munitions.

The document particularly says that the European lawmakers “deplore” the blockade of Yemen established by the Saudi-led coalition and specifically condemns “the indiscriminate coalition-led airstrikes leading to civilian casualties, including children, and destruction of civilian and medical infrastructure.” It adds that they equally condemn the actions of the Houthi rebels resulting in civilian casualties, including the missile attacks on the Saudi cities.

The MEPs then renewed their call on the EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, to launch “an initiative to impose an EU arms embargo against Saudi Arabia” in the view of the serious allegations of it committing war crimes in Yemen. The motion, which is, however, non-binding, was adopted by a vast majority as 539 MEPs supported it while only 13 of them voted against and 81 abstained.

The resolution also calls on Mogherini to “urgently propose an integrated EU strategy for Yemen” as well as urged all parties to the conflict to “urgently agree on a cessation of hostilities” and to return to peace negotiations. It then goes on to slam the EU member states for selling arms to the Saudis in spite of numerous allegations of war crimes committed by the coalition.

“EU Member States have continued to authorize transfers of arms to Saudi Arabia since the escalation of the conflict, in a violation of Council Common Position … on arms export control,” the document says. It then goes on to say that an EU arms embargo against Saudi Arabia would “effectively promote compliance” of the member states with the relevant EU guidelines and eventually with the international humanitarian law.

This is not the first time the EU parliament had called for an arms embargo against the Saudis. A similar appeal to the EU authorities was included into another its resolution on the situation in Yemen adopted in February 2016.

Meanwhile, some EU states continue to actively supply the Saudis with weapons and military equipment despite the Kindgom’s involvement in the war in Yemen. In mid-November, the German government revealed that the total value of its arms sales to Saudi Arabia has grown fivefold in the third quarter of 2017 comparison to the same period of the previous year.

While Germany supplies the Kingdom with military trucks and patrol boats, according to the disclosed documents, the UK is selling the Saudis various munitions, including bombs and missiles. And the UK arms sales to the Saudis also jumped by almost 500 percent, a November report said.

In September, an NGO said that the UK sold the Saudis £6 billion ($8 billion) worth of weapons since the war in Yemen began. It was also recently revealed that up to 50 British military personnel were teaching battlefield skills to Saudi officers engaged in the Yemeni conflict.

However, the oil-rich Kingdom enjoys support not only of its European partners. In late November, it was reported that the Saudis were purchasing $ 7 billion worth of precision arms from the US manufacturers, which is almost equal to the total worth of the British arms sales to the Saudi Arabia over the entire period of the Yemeni conflict. The purchase came as part of the mammoth $110-billion deal earlier brokered by the US President Donald Trump during his visit to Riyadh.

Since 2015, the Sunni monarchy has been waging a war against Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels in Yemen, which pushed one of the Arab world’s poorest countries to the brink of famine and left some 4,800 Yemenis killed, according to UN that says most of the civilian casualties were caused by Saudi-led coalition airstrikes, though Riyadh consistently denied the reports.

According to the UN, some 20.7 million people in Yemen are currently in need of humanitarian assistance while a cholera outbreack, which is considered to be one of the worst in the world, affected more than 900,000 people there. At the same time, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) also called the humanitarian situation in Yemen the “largest food-security emergency in the world.”

NetIO Devices

Russia won’t be surprised by war in North Korea, it’s been preparing for it – Security Council head

A war breaking out on the Korean Peninsula is one of the scenarios considered by the Russian military, so it would not be blindsided in case it actually happens, the head of Russia’s Security Council said, advocating a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

The launch of the Hwasong-15 ballistic missile by North Korea on Wednesday, which Pyongyang claimed is “capable of striking the whole mainland of the US” and Washington’s warning that the test brought the world “closer to war” has again raised concerns about potential disastrous consequences of a direct military confrontation.

Nikolay Patrushev, the head of Russia’s National Security Council, said Russia has been weighing its options if the war of words turns into a live shooting war.

“We are making calculations, preparations. It will not be a surprise to us,” Patrushev told RIA Novosti on Friday, when asked if Russia has been working on a response to hostilities potentially unfolding in the region.

While the war scenario can’t be ruled out, it must be avoided at all costs, Patrushev said, saying it’s not in the interests of Russia, which lies “effectively on the border with them [North Korea].”

“If there is military action, and you know that certain countries do not rule it out, then a range of different problems may follow, including for us,” he said, stressing that Moscow sees diplomacy as the only solution to the crisis.

The latest launch reignited the tense situation over North Korea, with US officials resorting to war-mongering rhetoric once again.

Acknowledging that “a lot of people would get hurt and killed” in case of an all-out military conflict with Pyongyang, Sen. Lindsay Graham said that Washington would have no other choice than to go for it if “things don’t change.”

US envoy to the United Nations Nikki Haley doubled down on US President Donald Trump’s promise to wipe out North Korea in case of an attack that he made in a notorious UN speech, warning that “the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed.”

FARSNEWS2017/12/1
Russia Assessing Possible Outcome of North Korea Military Option
TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev admitted that Pyongyang’s behavior has put Russia at risk, but noted that Russia will not allow military action against North Korea.

Russia is examining the possible outcome of a military option in dealing with the North Korea crisis, Patrushev told Sputnik.

Asked whether Russia had any contingency plan in place for a potential military solution to the standoff over the North's nuclear ambitions, he replied that "we are assessing this and preparing ourselves. We will not be taken by surprise."

Patrushev admitted that Pyongyang’s behavior put Russia at risk. "We basically share a border with them. That’s why we are interested in a political and diplomatic solution."

The secretary stressed that Russia will not allow military action against North Korea, after the US diplomat at the United Nations threatened Pyongyang with destruction.

"If there is military action – and you know some countries do not rule it out – this would create all sorts of problems, including for us," he said. "But we cannot let that happen."

North Korea has launched several missiles in recent months and held its largest nuclear test in September. Pyongyang argues that nuclear status would protect it from US hostility.

‘Bloodthirsty tirade’: Russian FM decries US threats to destroy North Korea
US military action against North Korea would be a big mistake, Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, warned, adding that Washington is itself provoking Pyongyang to make new reckless moves by drills with South Korea and aggressive rhetoric.

“If someone really wants to use force to – as the US representative to the UN put it – destroy North Korea... then I think it’s playing with fire and a huge mistake,” Lavrov said during a visit to Rome on Friday.

The Russian FM was referring to the comments made by US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, in the wake of Pyongyang’s first missile test in two months on Tuesday, in which it fired rockets that allegedly can reach US mainland. Haley said that “if war comes… the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed.” Lavrov called Haley’s speech at the UN Security Council on Wednesday “a really bloodthirsty tirade.”

“We will do everything to ensure that it [military conflict] doesn't happen and that the problem is solved using exclusively peaceful and political-diplomatic means,” he said. Moscow has been closely working with the US on the North Korean issue, with several meetings being held between the countries’ diplomats in the Russian capital and other venues, the FM added.

“Unfortunately, in the last couple of months there has been an impression that there are people in Washington who are trying to provoke Pyongyang to make new reckless moves at any cost,” the minister said. “In October, they announced large-scale unscheduled exercises [between US and South Korean forces], new drills are also announced in December – although in the regular context they shouldn’t have been conducted until spring,” he added.

Lavrov described Russia’s stance on the North Korean issue as “direct, honest and open.” “We see the main task in preventing an armed conflict, which will have disastrous consequences, first of all, for the countries that are located in the region – South Korea and Japan, but let’s not forget that China and Russia also practically bordering North Korea,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov also reminded of the roadmap, jointly developed by Russia and China, which implied rejection of any actions that fuel tensions and transition to negotiations. The proposal called for North Korea to curb its nuclear and missiles tests in return for the US giving up on joint military drills with South Korea in the region, but was rejected by Washington.

A group of Russian MPs visited Pyongyang earlier this week in order to facilitate the resolution of the crisis. They said that the North Korean side expressed readiness to engage in talks, but demanded that Moscow play a mediating role.

The North Koreans “believe that they have reached parity not in the amount of strength, but in capabilities and think that now they can sit at the negotiating table without listening to constant threats and insults from the US,” deputy chair of Russia’s upper house Committee for International Relations, Senator Aleksey Chepa, told Interfax.

“They trust Russia, therefore they consider the possibility [of negotiations] only with its participation ... as the guarantor of the talks,” Chepa said. However, he made clear that, during the talks with the Russian MPs, Pyongyang didn’t mention any plans to put a stop to its controversial nuclear program.
