Expert: US Has No Plans to Unleash War against North Korea

TEHRAN (FNA)- Director of the Russian Strategy in Asia Center at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Economics, Georgy Toloraya, said Washington has no intention of unleashing a war against Pyongyang using its regional allies.

"The Americans have no such conspiracy plans to unleash a war using other countries and gain some benefits from that," he said commenting on the potential US desire to use arms supplies to its allies in the region to draw them into its schemes to unleash an armed conflict with North Korea, TASS reported.

"Negotiations are still in progress on US arms supplies to its allies in the region, there are no contracts yet, everything can change many times." According to the expert, "plans to sell weapons to Washington’s regional allies should be regarded as the desire to bring its allies closer to itself and make them pay for Americans’ security, friendship and protection."

Toloraya noted that the war threat in the region is exaggerated. "I do not think the Americans are gearing up for war," he said. "The real threat from North Korea is likewise insignificant, because starting a war with the total elimination of North Korea and a sizeable part of South Korea and Japan is just irrational."

On the other hand, the probability of hostilities between the US and North Korea breaking out accidentally has grown, the expert stressed. "The risk of an accidental start of a war has certainly increased and is about three to four percent, while it was only tiny factions of one percent before tensions mounted," Toloraya said.

"Alarmist forecasts do exist, while the US already has something like betting shops regarding the likelihood of the outbreak of hostilities."

On November 6, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said at a joint news conference with US President Donald Trump that Japan plans to purchase more different types of weapons from the US amid the worsening situation in the region because of North Korea’s nuclear and missile tests.

Syria to Join UN Climate Accord in Another Blow to US

Syria to Join UN Climate Accord in Another Blow to US
TEHRAN (FNA)- Syrian authorities announced plans to join the 2015 United Nations climate agreement in another blow to the United States as the only country that has shunned the deal.

Syria’s delegate at UN climate negotiations in Germany said on Tuesday that the country planned to sign up to the Paris Agreement reached two years ago in the French capital with the aim of curbing the rising global temperatures, World News reported.

Other delegates attending the meeting of almost 200 nations in Bonn said that Syria representatives told the annual UN conference that Damascus would join the global efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions despite the civil war that has gripped the Arab country.

Other countries welcomed Syria’s plans, saying it showed how much UN efforts to counter global warming had drawn global attention.

“We need everybody on board,” Ronald Jumeau, of the Seychelles, an islands nation in the Indian Ocean, said.

Syria and Nicaragua were the only two nations that had not signed up to the 2015 deal. The US, a major proponent of the agreement at the time, has vowed to pull out of the deal under President Donald Trump. The American president has called the agreement a Chinese hoax, saying it is too protective of emerging powers like China.

Nicaragua has also promised to join the agreement which many say would seriously reduce the use of pollutants like coal as a source of energy. Trump insists that the US cannot curb its coal usage while countries like China can have it for a longer time.

Jumeau said the world was not happy about Trump’s pledges for withdrawal from Paris climate agreement.

“We want the United States in too. We take no pleasure in the United States being out,” he said.

Leader's Top Military Aide: 130,000 Terrorists Sent to Region by US in 80 Months
TEHRAN (FNA)- Top Military Aide to the Iranian Supreme Leader Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said Washington has dispatched nearly 130,000 terrorists to Iraq and Syria since 2011.

"The Americans have sent between 90,000 to 130,000 terrorists to Syria and Iraq in 80 months as countries such as the US, Israel, Turkey and Jordan wanted to overthrow Bashar al-Assad but Iran, the Lebanese Hezbollah, somehow Iraq, and the Syrian people and army didn’t allow them," Rahim Safavi said, addressing a forum in Tehran on Wednesday.

Noting that US President Donald Trump and his rival Hillary Clinton have themselves admitted creation of the ISIL terrorist group by Washington, he blamed the US and Israel for coaxing officials of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region into holding an independence referendum to seccede from mainland Iraq.

Rahim Safavi also reminded that when the ISIL occupied Mosul in Iraq in 2014, KRG President Massoud Barzani was fooled by the US and Israelis and his friends helped the terrorists disarm the Iraqi army forces but the ISIL didn’t show mercy to the Kurds and advanced to areas near Erbil.

"But Iran prevented the collapse of Erbil," he said.

Iran is providing Iraq and Syria with military advisory and humanitarian aid in their fight against terrorist groups.

Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani said in March 2016 that Takfiri terrorism threatens all Muslims, and Iran has waged war on those terrorists that trade enslaved women and children.

"The fire of Takfiri and Takfirism has engulfed in homes of our Sunni brothers. Those behind this are under the illusion that they can bring Shiism and the Islamic Republic to their knees. More than anywhere else, Takfiri groups have targeted the sanctity of humanity and the Sunni world," General Soleimani said.

He then asked those behind the smear campaign to question Iran's policy in its ongoing war on terror, "Is it adventurism if the Islamic Republic makes sacrifices to defend Muslims? Is it wrong for the Islamic Republic to battle a group that in just one region is buying and selling some 20,000 unfortunate enslaved young women? Is it wrong for the Islamic Republic to stand against the anti-Muslim current and stop the demolition of Mosques and Muslim holy sites?"

Over 54,000 Militants Killed in Syria over Past Two Years
TEHRAN (FNA)- More than 54,000 militants were killed in Syria over the past two years, including about 4,200 natives of Russia and the former Soviet republics, Chief of Russia’s General Staff Valery Gerasimov said.

"More than 1,000 inhabited communities have been liberated, over 54,000 members of militant groups were killed, including more than 2,800 natives of Russia and 1,400 of the former Soviet republics," he said at a meeting of the Russian Defense Ministry board, TASS reported.

Gerasimov noted that the Russian military servicemen in Syria encountered a well-trained enemy. Terrorists had about 1,500 tanks and armored vehicles, over 1,200 guns and mortars seized from Syrian and Iraqi government troops. "There was no shortage of ammunition and materiel, which were constantly replenished from abroad," he stressed.

"Their commanders were trained in special camps under the watchful eye of Western instructors and military advisers from some countries of the Middle East, Western Europe and America. In some cases, special forces officers from these countries led illegal armed units," the chief of Russia’s General Staff said.

Gerasimov added that, in terms of the level of cohesion and training, militant units were equal to the Syrian government troops. "Actually, every settlement was a fortified area with a well thought out fire system, concrete structures, a ramified system of artificial obstacles and underground communications," he emphasized.

He recalled that, by the beginning of the operation, terrorist groups controlled more than 70% of Syria’s territory and continued to advance in all directions. "During the two years of our armed forces’ participation in the fighting, it was possible not only to turn the tide of the hostilities in favor of government troops but also rout big militant groups in the most important areas, liberate the key cities and recapture major communication lines," Gerasimov concluded.

Saudi Arabia has lost its mind

Staff writer, Al Arabiya English Tuesday, 7 November 2017

Saudi minister of Gulf affairs, Thamer al-Sabhan, said on Monday that Lebanon had declared war against Saudi Arabia because of what he described as aggression against the Kingdom by the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.

“We will treat the government of Lebanon as a government declaring war on Saudi Arabia due to the aggression of Hezbollah,” he said in response to the recent decisions taken by the Lebanese government.

Al Arabiya reported that Saudi King Salman had informed the outgoing Prime Minister Saad Hariri of the details of Hezbollah’s aggression against Saudi Arabia, adding that the Lebanese government should be aware of the dangers imposed by these militias.

Sabhan added that Hezbollah militias are involved in terrorist acts that threatens the Kingdom, stressing that Saudi Arabia will use all political and other means to confront what he called the “Party of Satan.”

“We expect the Lebanese government to act to deter Hezbollah,” he said in an interview with Al Arabiya.

Sabhan also accused Hezbollah of smuggling drugs to Saudi Arabia and training Saudi youths on terrorism.

The Saudi minister said that Hariri and the Lebanese government would not accept the positions of Hezbollah militia, stressing that talk about forcing Hariri to resign lies to disperse Lebanon.

“Lebanon is kidnapped by the militias of Hezbollah and behind it is Iran,” he said.

Saudi Arabia accuses Lebanon of being ‘kidnapped’ by Hezbollah & ‘declaring war’ on Riyadh

Riyadh has accused Lebanon of “declaring war” on Saudi Arabia by allowing Hezbollah “aggression” against the Gulf Kingdom. Earlier, the Lebanese militant group accused the Saudis of forcing Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri out of office.

Hariri unexpectedly announced his resignation on Saturday in a televised statement recorded in Saudi Arabia. In his resignation speech, Hariri accused Iran and Hezbollah of a “desire to destroy the Arab world.” The next day, the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, accused Saudi Arabia of forcing the premier out of office and writing his resignation statement for him. Tehran meanwhile firmly rejected Hariri’s accusations, saying that Iran only seeks “peace and stability” and pointing out its “excellent” relationship with Beirut.

Amid the political uncertainty, on Monday the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya news network reported that King Salman had met with Hariri in Riyadh, where the monarch shared the details of Hezbollah’s alleged aggression against Saudi Arabia.

According to the Saudi Minister of State for Gulf Affairs, Thamer al-Sabhan, Hezbollah is accused of smuggling drugs and providing terrorist training to Saudi youngsters. During the meeting, King Salman allegedly accused the Lebanese militant group of being involved in “every terrorist act that threatens Saudi Arabia,” Al-Arabiya reported. The ruler of the kingdom also allegedly vowed to use “all political and other means” to confront Hezbollah, which he called the “Party of Satan.”

“We will treat the government of Lebanon as a government declaring war because of Hezbollah militias,” Al-Sabhan told al-Arabiya. “Lebanon is kidnapped by the militias of Hezbollah and behind it is Iran.”

“We expect the Lebanese government to act to deter Hezbollah,” the minister said. “The Lebanese must all know these risks and work to fix matters before they reach the point of no return.”

Al-Sabhan did not clarify what actions Saudi Arabia might take against Lebanon. There was also no immediate reaction from Beirut, where Lebanese President Michel Aoun is yet to accept the prime minister's resignation. Aoun plans to decide on the issue after Hariri returns to Lebanon from Saudi Arabia, presidential spokesman Nabih Berri told reporters Monday.

Arab Media: Hariri Hostage in Riyadh to Settle $7bln Overdue Debts
TEHRAN (FNA)- Arab media outlets reported on Wednesday that Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri has been kept in Riyadh to pay his $7bln debts to the Saudi banks.

The Arabic-language al-Akhbar newspaper said in a report that Riyadh had given Hariri the options of either going back to Beirut to resign and immediately come back to Riyadh while his family members were kept in Saudi Arabia or attack President Michael Aoun and Hezbollah in his resignation from Riyadh and meantime settle his debts to the Saudi media and political bodies.

The information gained from Abu Dhabi last night showed that Riyadh will take the overdue debts of Saudi Oger company from Saad al-Hariri. The company was established by his father in 1978 and certain reports since 2015 raised the possibility of its bankruptcy.

Based on an agreement between Saad Hariri and the Saudi officials, he will own two houses in Riyadh and Jeddah, one of them earlier owned by his late father.

They also agreed on non-prosecution of the Saudi Oger company by the Saudi banks which have paid loans to it.

Meantime, the Lebanon-based al-Mayadeen news channel quoted an informed source at the parliament as saying that Hariri will return to Lebanon later this week.

The Hariri family's major interests in Saudi Arabia date back to 1978 when the Saudi Oger construction company was founded by Saad's father Rafik, the former Lebanese prime minister who was assassinated in 2005.

Saudi Oger was responsible for building vast swathes of Saudi Arabia and helping develop the cities of the desert kingdom into some of the world's leading metropolises.

It also made the Hariri family multi-billionaires - Saad Hariri was estimated to worth around $4.1bn in 2005 shortly after his father's death. The Hariris were also granted Saudi citizenship as a result of their contributions.

In recent years, however, a tanking Saudi economy combined with allegations of corruption have damaged the fortunes of the company and Hariri, who as of December 2016 was worth just $1.3bn, according to Forbes.

Corbyn: UK Queen Should Apologize for Offshore Investments

Corbyn: UK Queen Should Apologize for Offshore Investments
TEHRAN (FNA)- The UK Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn said Queen Elizabeth should apologize after her name appeared in the so-called Paradise Papers, a collection of leaked documents linking businesses and individuals to offshore investments and tax avoidance.
Speaking at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) annual conference, Corbyn said the revelations contained in the leak were “shocking,” and added that “widespread tax avoidance and evasion on an industrial scale must lead to decisive action and real change,” Politico reported.
Asked if he thought the queen should apologize, Corbyn said according to City A.M., “Anyone who is putting money into a tax haven … should do two things, they should apologize and recognize what it does for society.”
“Who loses out? Schools, hospitals, housing,” he added.
According to the leaked documents, some £10 million of the queen’s private money was invested in funds in the Cayman Islands and Bermuda by the Duchy of Lancaster, which provides the queen with an income.
A spokesperson for the Duchy of Lancaster told the BBC that the all of the investments “are fully audited and legitimate.”
