FARSNEWS2017/10/11
Memos Reveal Torture of Detainees at CIA Black Site in Afghanistan
TEHRAN (FNA)- New details were disclosed about the CIA’s torture program at a black site prison near Kabul, Afghanistan, thanks to newly unsealed documents the spy agency and US Defense Department were forced to declassify over a lawsuit filed by victims of the torture program.

The newly revealed papers expose in shocking detail how the agency integrated two contract psychologists to design brutal torture techniques to break detainees’ resistance and give torture the appearance of legality, presstv reported.

Two surviving prisoners and the family of a detainee who died at the ‘Cobalt’ site in Afghanistan reached an out-of-court settlement with CIA psychologists James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen in August after a lawsuit was filed for their role in the torture.

The CIA and Pentagon were forced to declassify the documents related to the case in pretrial discovery. The memos also capture high-level agency discussions revealing a cover-up in action.

The Cobalt site, which opened outside Kabul in September 2002, was made up of 20 cells, according to the documents. In 16 cells, prisoners were shackled to a metal ring in the wall. In four, designed for sleep deprivation, they stood chained by the wrists to an overhead bar.

The cells were unheated, and inmates were subjected to blaring music around the clock.

“The atmosphere was very good,” Jessen told CIA investigators. “Nasty, but safe.”

The Cobalt site came to be referred to as "The Darkness" by inmates for its full sensory deprivation darkness which detainees experienced round the clock, sometimes for years.

Mitchell and Jessen designed a list of "techniques" to be used to torture prisoners, including waterboarding causing the individual to experience the sensation of drowning and walling, slamming inmates into flexible walls.

The objective was to "reach the stage where we have broken any will or ability of subject to resist or deny providing us information," the pair unambiguously stated.

Jessen had been visiting the site to oversee the interrogation of Gul Rahman, a detainee who was interrogated for several weeks in November.

Rahman, wearing only socks and a diaper in the unheated cells, was subjected to 48 hours of sleep deprivation and cold showers, despite concerns by one supervisor that he might develop hypothermia.

Five days after Jessen left the site, Rahman died of hypothermia. He had been left in his cell naked from the waist down.

The two psychologists were paid $80 million for their work, which included helping interrogate Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks, and Abu Zubaydah, another top al-Qaeda official.

The Senate Intelligence Committee released a report in 2014 about CIA's brutal detention and interrogation program and its use of various forms of torture on detainees between 2001 and 2006 during the so-called war on terror.

The report concluded that the spy agency’s interrogation methods were far more brutal and less effective than what the agency had publicly acknowledged.

The report also said that not a single terrorist attack was foiled as a result of the use of the so-called harsh interrogation techniques.

Turkish Doctors, Terrorists Engaged in Trafficking Organs of Syrian Patients

Turkish Doctors, Terrorists Engaged in Trafficking Organs of Syrian Patients
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Turkish surgeons and ISIL terrorists have been engaged in taking Syrian patients' body organs out in ISIL-held Raqqa city's state hospital in Northeastern Syria and trafficking them to black markets for transplantation in different countries, a Kurdish media outlet reported on Wednesday.

The Kurdish-language Hawar news quoted local sources as disclosing that the ISIL terrorists took out Syrian patients' body organs in cooperation with the Turkish surgeons to trade them in other countries.

It said that ISIL had embarked on training female nurses in Raqqa's state hospital to cure its own members that were sick, adding that the ISIL, in cooperation with the Turkish doctors, was using the blood of the Syrian patients to save the injured terrorists' lives.

Hawar news further said that the ISIL and the Turkish doctors were cooperating to take out the patients' body organs to sell them.

Local sources told Hawar news that a large number of Syrian patients lost their lives in Raqqa hospital, while their bodies were not handed over to their family members.

Relevant reports said in December 2016 that terrorist groups in Idlib province abducted tens of Syrian children and trafficked their body organs.

The Arabic-language Al-Hadath news website quoted the sources as saying that some specific groups that trained medics kidnapped the children, mutilated their body organs and then left their corpses in remote areas or buried them.

According to them, an Israeli officer in Turkey was waiting for the children's organs to be transferred to the black market for transplantation.

The sources said that the medical teams of these groups anesthesiologists, surgeons and a number of armed forces who abduct children and transfer them to safe areas for surgery in brand-new and fully equipped ambulances.

RT2017/10/11
‘American twin’: Iranian general compares Trump to ISIS leader Baghdadi
A senior Iranian general has called the US president the ‘American twin’ of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, responding to rumors that the Trump administration is considering designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guards as terrorists.

Both Trump and Al-Baghdadi display “lack of trust in all principles and regulations of diplomacy and sovereignty in today’s world,” Brigadier General Rasoul Sanayee Rad, deputy commander for political affairs of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), wrote in an opinion piece quoted by the IRGC outlet Basirat.

One is building a caliphate and the other is invading other countries, the Iranian general argued.

“Using the logic of threat and force in order to advance their objectives, and reliance on their bullying and tyrannical temperament” was another item on Rad’s list.

“One of them is propped up by terrorists, and the other by extremist hawks, and both are being used as instruments to trigger chaos and instability,” the general continued.

Rad also compared Trump’s consideration of designating IRGC as a terrorist organization with Baghdadi’s labelling of Iranians as “infidels and disbelievers.”

“Trump’s historic mistake, too, has prompted the IRGC commander to say that he will regard the US as a follower of ISIS in the region if Washington puts the IRGC on its terror list,” Rad said.

The Trump administration has not yet designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization but it is reportedly considering the move. The IRGC is part of Iranian armed forces, and Washington has already called Iran the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism.

Trump said he may soon de-certify the nuclear deal with Iran, even though his administration officials say Tehran has so far complied with the agreement, brokered by world powers two years ago to make sure Iran does not build nuclear weapons.

“We cannot let a murderous regime continue these destabilizing activities,” Trump told the UN General Assembly in September, citing Tehran’s support for Hezbollah, the Syrian government, as well as for Shia Houthis in the Yemeni civil war.

Iran will offer a “tougher response,” if the US breaks the nuclear deal, the Fars news agency quoted Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as saying Monday. Tehran “will never renegotiate” the deal, Zarif said.

America’s Europeans allies have warned Trump that the deal will stand even if he decides to pull out of it.

Possible US moves to decertify the Iranian nuclear agreement is “unjustifiable,” Austria’s envoy to the UN said this week.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May, too, urged Trump in their latest phone call to recertify the nuclear deal with Iran, saying it is "vitally important for regional security." British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson called the deal "an historic achievement," ahead of a meeting with Iranian Vice President Dr Ali Akhbar Salehi in London on Wednesday.

THAAD missile

FARSNEWS2017/10/11
Moscow: US THAAD Missile Defense Systems in S Korea Target Russia, China
TEHRAN (FNA)- The US THAAD missile defense systems in South Korea target Russia and China, Georgiy Borisenko, Director of the North America Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry said in an exclusive interview.

According to Borisenko, Washington is merely using the alleged N. Korean missile threat as a pretext for deploying THAAD systems close to the borders of Russia and China, Sputnik reported.

"But the fact is that these systems are absolutely incapable of preventing North Korea from retaliating in the event of aggression against it. The border on the Korean Peninsula passes so that Seoul is in the range of the long-range artillery of the neighboring state. THAAD systems are not capable of intercepting artillery shells. Therefore, they are simply not needed against N. Korea," the Russian diplomat said.

"So, we and our partners in China are well aware that THAAD is directed against Russia and China," Borisenko stressed.

Moscow and Beijing oppose THAAD's deployment, saying it could further deteriorate the nuclear crisis and provoke North Korean aggression. Russia, alongside China, also criticized the increase in South Korea's joint military activities with Washington as a danger to the peace and stability of the region.

FARSNEWS2017/10/11
Moscow Urges Washington to Explain Why Terrorists Operate near US Forces in Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Russian Defense Ministry has raised the issue of some 300 ISIL terrorists on pickup trucks infiltrating through a US-controlled zone in Syria's al-Tanf.

The Russian Defense Ministry has urged "the US side to explain its selective blindness regarding militants" operating near US forces in Syria, Sputnik reported.

The ministry's spokesman said the 300 ISIL terrorists tried to block a strategically important road linking Damascus and Deir Ezzur, used for delivering humanitarian aid for civilians and supplies for the Syrian Army.

In the meantime, Director of the North America Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry Georgiy Borisenko told Sputnik Washington seeks to undermine the Syrian government.

"Of course, we have a lot of questions about what the Americans are doing in Syria. Unlike the Russian forces, they are there in violation of international law," Borisenko said in an exclusive interview.

"They even establish certain zones, for example, in the al-Tanf area, where they refuse to allow the forces of the legitimate government. In fact, this is reminiscent of an attempt to divide the country, split Syria in order to create governing bodies controlled by the United States and its allies in certain part (of Syria)," the Russian diplomat stressed.

RT2017/10/11
China could shatter petrodollar by compelling Saudi Arabia to trade oil in yuan
Beijing is likely to “compel” Saudi Arabia to sell crude oil in yuan, and others will follow, according to the chief economist and managing director at High Frequency Economics Carl Weinberg. This will hit the US dollar, he says.

In an interview with CNBC Weinberg said China has become a key player in the oil market since overtaking the US to become the world's largest importer.

Saudi Arabia has "to pay attention to this because even as much as one or two years from now, Chinese demand will dwarf US demand," Weinberg told the media.

"I believe that yuan pricing of oil is coming and as soon as the Saudis move to accept it − as the Chinese will compel them to do − then the rest of the oil market will move along with them," he added.

A 1974 agreement between US President Richard Nixon and Saudi King Faisal meant Riyadh has been accepting dollars for all its oil exports.

However, recently, countries like China and Russia have been looking to exclude the greenback from bilateral oil trade. Russia and Saudi Arabia are the most significant exporters of oil to China, alternating in top spot.

China has already said it wants to start a crude oil futures contract priced in yuan and convertible into gold.

Veteran investor Jim Rogers told RT last month that countries are getting more concerned about trading in dollars, because “if the US gets angry at you, they just set enormous pressure on you that can even get you out of business.”

“China, Russia, and other countries understand this, and they are trying to move world trade and world finance away from that,” said Rogers.

In July, Russia and China signed a 68 billion yuan ($10 billion) investment fund to ease ruble-yuan settlements.
