US President Faces Critical Fall After Summer of Crises
TEHRAN (FNA)- US President Donald Trump is entering a critical fall following an endless summer of crises, plagued by low approval ratings, growing tensions with Republican lawmakers, a nuclear standoff with North Korea and multiple investigations into whether Trump’s election campaign aides colluded with Russia.

Last month was a difficult month for Trump and even Republicans acknowledge the scale of the challenges Trump faces in September, presstv reported.

In August, Trump hit one of the low points of his presidency and tarnished his credibility and moral authority over his response to the white supremacist rally that turned deadly in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“I think it is fraught with peril, politically,” GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak said. “It’s not about getting victories, it’s about surviving and thinking about the rest of the fall,” Mackowiak added.

More than half of voters are convinced he is bent on tearing the country apart, according to one recent Fox News survey.

Some Republicans are distancing themselves from Trump already. US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, has reportedly not spoken to Trump for several weeks.

Trump is expected to end a program protecting undocumented immigrants brought to the US as children. He is threatening to terminate NAFTA and tear up a trade deal with South Korea. He also pardoned former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, despite his conviction for contempt in a case linked to racial profiling.

Such measures by the president have deepened the estrangement between Trump and senior Republican leaders in a way that could make it more difficult for him to pass key agenda items, including tax reform.

Late last month, Trump blamed the leadership of his own Republican Party for a legislative "mess" over raising the US debt ceiling.

In July, Trump suffered a humiliating blow as a small group of Republican lawmakers dealt him a stinging legislative defeat by voting against healthcare reform to replace Obamacare.

Trump has also been overwhelmed by turmoil in his own political inner circle in the White House.

His fiery rhetoric appears to be exacerbating the North Korean situation and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is showing he is not cowed by the US president.

US-led coalition violated intl law in Syria by failing to protect civilians – UN report
The UN Syria Commission released a report saying it is “gravely concerned” about the impact of international airstrikes in the war-torn country, adding that US-led forces failed to take proper precautions to protect civilians during an attack in Aleppo.

“The Commission is gravely concerned about the impact of international coalition airstrikes on civilians,” the report states.

It goes on to cite the March 2017 incident in Al-Jinah, Aleppo, in which “forces of the United States of America failed to take all feasible precautions to protect civilians and civilian objects when attacking a mosque, in violation of international humanitarian law.”

It also mentions the situation in Raqqa, in which the “ongoing Syrian Democratic Forces and international coalition offensive to repel [Islamic State or IS, formerly ISIS] has displaced over 190,000 persons, and coalition airstrikes have reportedly resulted in significant numbers of civilians killed and injured.” It added that investigations are ongoing.

Raqqa, the last stronghold of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), is under “intense artillery shelling” and “limited airstrikes by the coalition forces,” Amnesty International stated last month.

Some 20,000 civilians are currently trapped in Raqqa, unable to escape from the terrorist stronghold, according to the UN, which urged the US-led coalition last month to stop the bombings to allow people to safely leave the city.

The trapped civilians have virtually no access to basic services, including safe water and food, and are surviving on food they stored up earlier, David Swanson, public information officer from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, told RT.

The US-led coalition began an offensive in Raqqa in June, aiming to recapture the city. Hundreds of civilians have been killed and injured since that offensive began, according to Amnesty.

The UN Syria Commission's Wednesday document also suggests that Syrian government forces were responsible for a chemical attack that took place in April.

“All evidence available leads the Commission to conclude that there are reasonable grounds to believe Syrian forces dropped an aerial bomb dispersing sarin in Khan Shaykhun at around 6:45am on 4 April,” it states, adding that such attacks constitute war crimes.

However, the Russian Defense Ministry reported at the time that the chemicals were a result of the Syrian air force destroying a warehouse where chemical weapons were being produced and stockpiled before being shipped to Iraq.

The warehouse was used to both produce and store shells containing toxic gas, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said at the time.

Colonel General Sergey Rudskoy, the chief of the Russian General Staff’s Operations Department demanded a “thorough investigation” of the Khan Sheikhoun incident in April, noting that US and Western claims accusing the Syrian government of being behind the chemical attack were “highly questionable.”

He added that Russia was ready to provide experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) with access to the Syrian Army airbase from which the attack was allegedly launched.

“The experts are aware that it is impossible to conceal the traces of the chemical weapons,” he said, adding that the Syrian government was also ready to grant access to the base to experts.

However, no such expert investigation has taken place at the site.

Russia rushes humanitarian aid to exhausted Deir ez-Zor after breaching 3yr ISIS siege
The Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing sides in Syria is urgently sending humanitarian aid to Syria after Deir ez-Zor was finally liberated from a three-year siege by Islamic State, bringing relief to thousands of civilians.

Among the supplies the Russian Defense Ministry is to deliver are food aid and living essentials, including water purification stations, portable diesel generators, medicine and bottled water, according to the agency’s statement.

Medical aid teams will shortly visit citizens of the recaptured city, where Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants destroyed nearly all the infrastructure over the years of blockade.

Deir ez-Zor has been left with basically no functioning commodities. Electrical substations and water supply facilities were blown up, and schools and hospitals were torn down. All the businesses, residential, administrative and industrial buildings are shut down, and squares and children’s facilities were mined by jihadists as they retreated.

To return the retaken areas of the city to normal existence as soon as possible the center’s specialists are assessing the extent of humanitarian aid needed, as well as evaluating essential objects, such as electric stations, medical units, water facilities and bakeries.

In the meantime, Syrian engineers, trained in the international mine action center in Russia, will receive additional means to detect explosive objects and de-mine the city.

On Tuesday, Syrian Army forces broke the siege of Deir ez-Zor following Russian cruise missile strikes on IS, allowing the troops’ successful advancement.

The missiles hit the terrorists’ fortified areas, including artillery positions, armored vehicles, ammunition storages and a communication center.

Up to 125,000 civilians were trapped in the oil-rich provincial capital for nearly three years, with jihadists effectively blocking commercial and humanitarian access into the city. The occupied residents have been mostly reliant on airdropped aid by the UN, Russia and the Syrian government.

Russia Warns US Against Lethal Arms Deliveries to Ukraine

Russia Warns US Against Lethal Arms Deliveries to Ukraine
TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the United States against lethal arms deliveries to Ukraine, saying that it might worsen the situation in the country.

Possible deliveries of US lethal weapons to Ukraine will not change the situation, but this may lead to an increase in the number of victims, provoke the use of military force in other territories, Putin said during a press conference on the results of the BRICS summit on Tuesday, Sputnik reported.

"This [the supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine] is the sovereign decision of the United States as to whom they sell arms or supply them to for free, and of the country that is the recipient of this aid. We cannot influence this process in any way. But there are general international rules and approaches − the supply of weapons to the conflict zone does not favor the pacification, but only aggravates the situation," Putin stated.

According to him, "there is one more thing to pay attention to − who is encouraging such ideas".

"This is because the self-proclaimed republics have enough weapons, including those seized from the opposing side, from nationalist battalions. And if American weapons enter the conflict zone, it is difficult to say how the proclaimed republics will react − maybe they will send the weapons they have to other zones of conflict that are sensitive to those who create problems for them," Putin warned.

On Thursday, during his visit to Kiev in honor of Ukraine's Independence Day, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis stressed that the US was "actively reviewing" the supply of "defensive lethal weapons" to Ukraine.

In recent weeks, US officials have floated Javelin anti-tank missiles and anti-aircraft weapons among the kinds of "defensive" weapons that the US may send Kiev.

At his press conference, Mattis confirmed that the US has already agreed to supply the country with an additional $175 million worth of non-lethal equipment and supplies, for a total of $750 million over the last three years.

Early August, Russia’s foreign ministry warned that a reported US plan to supply lethal arms to Kiev will escalate the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, adding that the alleged defensive nature of the weaponry doesn’t mean Washington wouldn’t be responsible for a potential spike of violence.

“The masterminds of the plan to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine, apparently, proceed from the assumption that the situation in the east of this country isn’t explosive enough already and that it’s needed to add fuel to the fire,” Mikhail Ulyanov, the head of the Russian foreign ministry’s Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control, said.

The diplomat pointed out that “references to the fact that the talk is only about the supply of weapons of a defensive nature don’t change the essence of the matter.”

The government in Kiev has “no one to defend from” because the forces in the self-proclaimed People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk “aren’t making any attempts to expand their territory,”Ulyanov stressed.

The reported US move only would escalate the violence as “those circles in Ukraine, who are inclined to bet on the military scenario, would probably perceive the American deliveries as an encouragement of military hostilities,” he explained.

“The responsibility for this development would fall not only on Kiev, but on Washington as well,” Ulyanov emphasized.

Kremlin press-secretary, Dmitry Peskov, also pointed out the counterproductive nature of the reported plans to supply lethal arms to Ukraine.

“Our stance is well-known: we believe that all countries, especially those that are looking to be part of the settlement [of the Ukrainian conflict], must avoid any sort of actions which can provoke another spike in tensions in the already difficult region,”Peskov stressed.

Russia had also warned late July that a possible US decision to funnel lethal weapons to Ukraine would set back peace efforts and fuel Ukraine’s persistent civil war.

The Wall Street Journal had reported that the Pentagon and the US State Department have prepared a plan to supply Ukraine with antitank missiles and other weaponry. The unnamed high-ranked officials cited by the publication claimed that Kiev would require the American “defensive arms” to protect itself from possible aggression by Moscow.

Ukraine has repeatedly asked Washington for arms supplies, with the issue being discussed during talks between president Donald Trump and Ukrainian president Poroshenko in June. The sources said though, that the plan has not been approved by the White House with Trump being unaware of the move.

シリア軍とその同盟勢力 3年間に渡るデリゾールの封鎖を解く

RT2017/9/5 Edited time: 5 Sep, 2017 11:01
The Islamic State blockade of Deir er-Zor has been breached by Syrian government forces, Syrian state television and activist groups reported on Tuesday. The jihadist group has blockaded the provincial capital for almost 3 years.

The government troops defending the city and those advancing from the west have met, Syrian media reported.

The garrison of Deir ez-Zor has been holding out against Islamic State forces in rural parts of the governorate, sustained by airdrops of crucial supplies.

An estimated 93,000 civilians remain under the protection of Damascus’ forces within the city limits.

In the past few days, the advancing government forces have repeatedly moved swiftly to break through jihadist lines.

The Deir ez-Zor governorate is located in the western part of Syria on the border with Iraq and is one of the few remaining pockets of territory remaining under the control of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL). Moscow, which supports Damascus’ offensive against the jihadist groups, believes the full lifting of the siege of the provincial capital will amount to the strategic defeat of IS in Syria.

ISIS siege of Deir ez-Zor lifted thanks to Russian cruise missile strike – Defense Ministry
The siege of the Syrian provincial capital of Deir ez-Zor has been lifted, the Russian Defense Ministry confirms. The breakthrough by the Syrian Army was made possible by a Russian cruise missile strike on Islamic State militants, it said in a statement.

The Russian Navy launched Kalibr cruise missiles against jihadists stationed near the city, the ministry said. This enabled units commanded by General Suheil al-Hassan to break through IS defenses and lift the blockade.

“Terrorists attempted to stop the break-through of the Syrian army by deploying suicide bombers on armored vehicles,” the statement stated, adding that Syrian army destroyed some 50 terrorist “jihadmobiles” during the siege.

Syrian troops trying to widen the breach and liberate the city’s neighbourhoods are currently engaged in street battles with the jihadists, according to the Defense Ministry statement.

Russian frigate fires Kalibr cruise missiles at ISIS targets in Deir ez-Zor - Defense Ministry
A Russian warship in the Mediterranean Sea has fired a salvo of Kalibr cruise missiles at a group of jihadists stationed near the city of Deir ez-Zor in western Syria, the Russian military reported. The targeted militants were mainly from Russia and countries of the CIS.

The frigate ‘Admiral Essen’ of the Russian Black Sea fleet fired the missiles on Tuesday morning, a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry said. The barrage destroyed a communications center, weapons depots and a repair workshop used by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) militants, it said.

The ministry later said that the Kalibr strikes allowed Syrian government forces to conduct a rapid manoeuvre and break through the IS blockade of Deir ez-Zor city. The capital of the western Syrian governorate had been encircled by the militants for almost three years.

TEHRAN (FNA)- ISIL terrorists in the Eastern province of Deir Ezzur were taken by surprise when their positions came under heavy attack by the Russian Navy deployed in the Black Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

A Russian Black Sea Fleet frigate struck an area near the town of al-Shoula held by ISIL terrorists mostly from Russia and CIS countries with Kalibr cruise missiles, the Russian Defense Ministry stated.

"On September 5, the Admiral Essen frigate of the Russian Black Sea Fleet that has been carrying out missions (…) in the Mediterranean launched strikes with sea-based Kalibr cruise missiles on the ISIL terrorist group's targets near Deir Ezzur. Kalibr cruise missiles were launched on verified ISIL's targets based on information received by means of reconnaissance from several channels," the ministry said.

The Russian ministry added that dozens of terrorists were killed, as well as ISIL's command posts, a communications center, a facility repairing terrorists' armored vehicles, arms and ammunition depots were destroyed in the vicinity of Deir Ezzur, adding that the effectiveness of the missile strike was confirmed by UAV reconnaissance.

The missile strike thwarted terrorists' plans to regroup and boost their positions near Deir Ezzur, which has been besieged by the ISIL since 2013.

Damascus forces supported by Russian warplanes are currently trying to lift a years-long blockade of the provincial capital Deir Ezzur. Moscow says that the success of the operation would amount to a strategic defeat of the terrorist group in Syria.

The ‘Admiral Essen’ is one of Russia’s most modern warships, the second of the Admiral Grigorovich class to set sail. It carries 8 vertically-launched Kalibr cruise missiles and previously fired them at ISIL forces in May and June.

Earlier reports said that the Syrian Air Force targeted a long convoy of ISIL's vehicles carrying arms, ammunition and fresh fighters towards the terrorist group's positions near Brigade 137 base in Western Deir Ezzur, inflicting major damage on the column.

The army aircraft carried out several combat sorties over ISIL's movements near the salt mine near the town of al-Tabni in the Western countryside of Deir Ezzur, destroying most of the vehicles and killing a number of terrorists.

The ISIL intended to transfer the convoy of forces, arms and ammunition to the group's positions near Brigade 137 base.

Also, the fighter jets pounded ISIL's defense lines in the villages of al-Baqaliyeh and Ayyash, imposing heavy casualties on the militants.

In the meantime, the Syrian Army troops clashed fiercely with a group of ISIL terrorists and repelled their attack on the government forces' positions South of T-2 pumping station in the Southeastern part of Deir Ezzur, killing a large number of terrorists.

北朝鮮の核実験場が陥没し 放射性物質飛散の可能性

Mount Doom: N. Korea nuke test site could cave in & spread radiation – Chinese experts

The mountain where North Korea likely conducted its five most recent nuclear bomb tests could be at risk of collapse, potentially releasing radiation into the atmosphere, according to Chinese experts who measured shock waves caused by the blasts.

Scientists from the seismic and deep earth physics laboratory at the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, Anhu province, believe the most recent tests were carried out under a mountain at North Korea's Punggye-ri test site, according to a statement published on their website.

The group's leader, geophysicist Wen Lianxing, believes the margin of error for their prediction to be no more than 100 meters, citing data collected by more than 100 earthquake monitoring sites.

The data set includes an earthquake which was registered eight minutes after North Korea's latest launch on Sunday, which Chinese authorities deemed a cave-in triggered by the explosion.

According to Wen's team, the energy released in Sunday’s test was about 108.3 kilotons of TNT, or 7.8 times the amount released by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, by the US in 1945. It far surpassed all previous bombs tested by Pyongyang.

However, a team of scientists in Norway estimated the bomb was even more powerful, as much as 10 times greater than the Hiroshima bomb.

The Chinese team's findings, if accurate, could mean a major environmental disaster is on its way, with the next test potentially causing the entire mountain to cave in on itself, according to Wang Naiyan, the former chairman of the China Nuclear Society and a senior researcher on China's nuclear weapons program.

That would leave a hole venting radiation across the entire region.

“We call it ‘taking the roof off’. If the mountain collapses and the hole is exposed, it will let out many bad things," Wang said, as quoted by the South China Morning Post.

Wang said the severity of the situation depends on where the North Koreans placed the bombs.

“If the bombs were planted at the bottom of vertically drilled tunnels, the explosion would do less damage,” he said.

However, such a scenario is unlikely, due to the fact that such tunnels are expensive and difficult to build. It's much easier, Wang said, to build a horizontal tunnel into the heart of the mountain - which increases the risk of "taking the roof off" the mountain.

Moreover, the increasing size of the bombs used in the nuclear tests also make "topping" more likely, according to Wang.

“A 100 kiloton bomb is a relatively large bomb. The North Korean government should stop the tests as they pose a huge threat not only to North Korea but to other countries, especially China,” he said.

Despite the possible doomsday prediction, Wang stressed that calculations made by Wen and his team could be inaccurate, as earthquakes travel at different speeds through different rocks. In other words, it is not easy to make entirely accurate predictions based on seismic data.

Pyongyang said its Sunday launch involved a hydrogen bomb which can be mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

“The H-bomb, the explosive power of which is adjustable from tens to hundreds of kilotons, is a multi-functional thermonuclear bomb with great destructive power which can be detonated even at high altitudes for a super-powerful EMP [Electromagnetic pulse] attack according to strategic goals,” state news agency KCNA reported.

“The recent self-defense measures by my country, the DPRK, are a gift package addressed to none other than the US,” Han Tae-song, North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations, said during an address to the UN-sponsored Conference on Disarmament on Tuesday.

“The US will receive more gift packages from my country as long as it relies on reckless provocations and futile attempts to put pressure on the DPRK,” he continued.

Meanwhile, China has urged all sides in the crisis to “seriously consider” the double-freeze plan proposed by China and Russia and “actively respond to it.”

However, that plan – which would see Pyongyang suspend its nuclear and missile tests in exchange for a halt in joint US-South Korean military drills – has already been rejected by Washington.
