Iraqi Official Warns of Imminent ISIL Attacks via Turkey
TEHRAN (FNA)- An Iraqi Interior Ministry official announced that ISIL sleeper cells are preparing for attacks at several world cities to divert attention from their major setbacks in Syria and Iraq.

The head of Iraqi Falcon Intelligence Cell (FIC), Abu Ali al-Basri told Al-Sabah newspaper that “the Mosul battle showed that the capabilities of the terrorist organization threaten not only Iraq and the region, but also many parts of the world”.

Al-Basri warned of the ISIL’s imminent plans to carry out global attacks, saying that “the terror group has sent sleeper cells from Syria through Turkey to deploy around the world in order to spread terror and chaos, using money paid by extremist clerics who have political goals".

Not ‘Russian hackers’? WaPo report accuses UAE of orchestrating Qatar media hack
A new report by the Washington Post, citing US intelligence, says there is evidence that the United Arab Emirates coordinated the hacking of Qatar’s state media agency (QNA), which led to the blockade of the Gulf monarchy. Previously, US media, citing the FBI, blamed the attack on “Russian hackers.”

The UAE government planned the infamous May 24 hacking of QNA, states the report citing US intelligence officials who were not named because of the “sensitive” character of the matter.

The reported evidence shows that on May 23, senior UAE officials discussed the implementation of the hack, which saw statements falsely attributed to Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani, being run by QNA in a text-ticker on-air and on social media. Government Twitter handles were also hacked.

The fake statements, which spoke favorably of Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as of relations with Israel, provoke the ire of a number of Gulf states as well as Egypt, and Qatar was effectively cut off from the Arabian Peninsula with a blockade.

Qatari media was immediately banned in several Arab states, despite an official hack announcement issued by Doha within an hour of the initial attack.

The Post’s report states that it “remains unclear” if it was UAE hackers who carried out the attack or if it “contracted” others to hack Qatari media.

The UAE’s envoy to the US, Yousef al-Otaiba, reacted to the post by saying the article was “false” and the country “had no role whatsoever in the alleged hacking described” there.

He went on to accuse Qatar of “funding, supporting, and enabling extremists from the Taliban to Hamas and Gaddafi.”

US intelligence agencies declined to comment.

This new report signals an apparent change of tune by the US media, as its earlier reports in June claimed that “Russian hackers” were allegedly to blame for the hack.

A CNN report titled, “US suspects Russian hackers planted fake news behind Qatar crisis,” citing anonymous US officials, claimed that intelligence gathered as part of an FBI investigation into the hack indicated that unnamed Russian hackers could be behind the intrusion.

A banner aired on CNN bluntly stated that “Russians planted false story behind new Mideast crisis,” citing sources.

President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, denounced CNN’s story, calling it “another lie that was published.” Pointing out the unnamed sources and unverifiable information frequently used in such reports he added that “fake is a fake.”

Both the FBI and the CIA declined to comment on the investigation.

While there is similarly no verifiable proof in the Sunday report by Washington Post, it also cites a recent leak of the UAE’s ambassador’s emails, released by the GlobalLeaks hacking group.

The leaked emails revealed that Otaiba regularly communicated with a pro-Israel neoconservative think-tank called the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD). While not providing any concrete details, the exchange suggests the UAE was actively working to undermine Iran’s influence in the region, making use of political, economic and “cyber” tools.

The long-brewing spat between Qatar and its neighbors, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, includes accusations that Doha has been cozying up to Tehran.

The first on the list of 13 sweeping demands that the Gulf states and Egypt placed before Qatar in the form of ultimatum is a complete severing of ties of Iran.

Other demands include stopping the alleged funding of terrorist groups in the region, the termination of the Turkish military presence in Qatar, the shutting down of Al Jazeera and reparations for the damage allegedly caused by Qatari interference.

Washington has been sending mixed signals as regards to the Qatari crisis, with President Donald Trump seemingly taking credit for igniting the fallout in his Twitter posts, while Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has been at the same time attempting to negotiate a compromise between the Gulf states in a frantic engagement of shuttle diplomacy.

Trump met with the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) leaders days before the crisis broke out and even discussed countering Iran with a NATO-like regional force. He was visiting Israel when the QNA got hacked.

Putin discussed the crisis with a number of Gulf leaders in a series of phone calls, underlining that it should be resolved through diplomatic means.

It comes amid a flurry of diplomatic activity between Moscow, Doha and Riyadh, with a state visit to Russia by the Saudi king expected soon.

‘If Don Jr’s Russian meeting was nefarious, why did Secret Service allow it?’ – Trump lawyer

RT2017/7/16
President Donald Trump’s legal team insists that the campaign meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer was not illegal, did not involve the candidate himself, and contrasts favorably with links between the Clinton campaign and Ukraine.

Jay Sekulow, a senior member of Trump’s legal team, toured all five of the major network’s political talk shows Sunday, defending the administration over the June 2016 New York encounter involving lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya and lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin on one side, and Trump Jr., the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and then-campaign manager Paul Manafort on the other.

"Nothing in that meeting that would have taken place, even if it was about the topic of an opposition research paper from a Russian lawyer, is illegal or a violation of the law," Sekulow told Fox News, fending off accusations that the team may have been “colluding” with Russia.

The original email sent to Trump Jr. prior to the Trump Tower meeting, which allegedly lasted less than a quarter of an hour, promised information that “would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.”

Sekulow said president Trump learned of the meeting only when it was flagged up by a New York Times story earlier this week.

Trump “had no meetings, was aware of no meetings with Russians, was not aware of this one until really right before it all broke,” Sekulow said on CBS’ Face the Nation.

Sekulow added during several interviews that Trump would be “willing to testify” before the Senate on the issue, though, likely, “it wouldn’t come to that.”

The high-profile lawyer and media figure also questioned why the Secret Service – which screens those allowed access to presidential candidates and their associates – let through the two Russian nationals and their interpreter.

“I wonder why the Secret Service, if this was nefarious, why the Secret Service allowed these people in. The president had Secret Service protection at that point, and that raised a question with me,” Sekulow said on ABC’s This Week program.

Later Sunday, the Secret Service denied that anyone in the room at the meeting was under its protection at the time.

“Donald Trump, Jr. was not a protectee of the USSS in June, 2016. Thus we would not have screened anyone he was meeting with at that time.”

Sekulow’s Secret Service query echoes an earlier line of attack by the administration, which noted that Veselnitskaya was issued a discretionary visa to enter the United States, an unusual scenario for a supposed agent of a foreign government, as she has been presented.

Sekulow also drew attention to a January Politico article which pointed out that the Ukrainian government attempted to dig up dirt on Manafort’s alleged past links to the Kremlin. Manafort spent years working in Russia as a consultant.

“We can’t act like this is in a vacuum. We know for a fact, as was reported extensively in an investigative journalist piece by Politico, that the Ukrainians were in direct contact with DNC officials and traded information back and forth,” Sekulow told ABC.

Iranian FM says ISIS, Al-Nusra, Al-Qaeda get their money & ideology from US allies

RT2017/7/16
The Iranian Foreign Minister has accused Washington’s allies in the Middle East of sponsoring terrorism. Mohammad Javad Zarif was speaking to CNN, commenting on US President Donald Trump’s apparent anti-Iranian policy in the region.

In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Zarif said Trump’s stance towards Iran, which includes accusations of Tehran sponsoring terrorism, represented a “misplaced and misguided policy.”

“We know where the terrorists are coming from. We know those who attacked the World Trade Center were citizens of which countries in the region – I can tell you none of them came from Iran,” Zarif said.

The FM added that “none of the people who engaged in acts of terrorism since 2001 came from Iran,” pointing out that “most of them came from US allies.”

Out of the 19 terrorists who hijacked planes on September 11, 2001, fifteen were Saudi Arabian citizens, two were from UEA while the rest were Egyptian and a Lebanese.

“Look at ISIS [Islamic State, IS], look at Nusra [Al-Nusra Front terrorist group], look at Al-Qaeda, look at other terrorist organizations… none of them have anything to do with Iran and all of them receive not only their ideology but their financial assistance, their weapons, their arms from others who call themselves US allies,” Zarif said.

Trump has branded Iran the main sponsor of terrorism during his US presidential campaign.

During his landmark visit to Saudi Arabia this May, the US president said “until the Iranian regime is willing to be a partner for peace, all nations of conscience must work together to isolate Iran.”

Following the twin IS-linked terror attacks on the Iranian parliament and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in early June, which left 14 dead and 42 injured,

Trump went as far to say that it was Tehran’s own fault: “We underscore that states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote.”

Zarif dismissed the US leader’s remarks as “repugnant,” while saying that “Iranians counter terror backed by US clients.”

The US accuses Tehran of supporting various Shia militant groups in the Middle East and North Africa – including Hamas in Palestine, Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen.

Iran is also a strong ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad, whom Washington wanted to be removed from power. The CNN interview focused on the “endgame” in Syria, which Zarif believes must come with a ceasefire, without preconditions and Syrians deciding for themselves who they want as a president.

Zarif also rejected claims from a group of senators that Iran has violated the nuclear deal, pointing out that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is the monitoring body in accordance with the deal, has verified that Tehran has been in full compliance with the agreed scaleback of its nuclear program.

Zarif accused Washington of violating its part of the deal by calling other states not to do business with Tehran.

PRESSTV2017/7/16
President Rouhani's brother taken into custody over financial charges

Hossein Fereydoun, the brother of Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, has been sent to prison on Sunday over financial charges.

Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, Iran's Judiciary spokesman, said during his regular press briefing on Sunday that Fereydoun had been subject to various investigations and some people related to him had been also investigated with regard to financial matters.

The judicial official noted that some other people had been already arrested in this regard and Fereydoun had been asked to post a bail required by court. However, he was sent to jail after failing to secure the bail, Mohseni-Ejei noted.

He added that if Fereydoun could post the bail asked by court, he would go free, because he was not in temporary detention.

When a reporter asked about Fereydoun's charges, the Judiciary spokesman said they were related to financial issues, but had nothing to do with bank arrears.

Law Professor: Trump Could Resign to Save His Children from Prison

TEHRAN (FNA)- US President Donald Trump could resign over a “constitutional crisis” caused by his son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and his son Trump Jr. over their interactions with Russia prior to the 2016 election, predicted Philip Bobbitt, a leading professor of law at Columbia University.

Emails released by Trump Jr. show that he met with a Kremlin-based lawyer last summer, along with Kushner and Paul Manafort, the then chairman of the Trump campaign, Islam Times reported.

Trump Jr., had been promised damaging information about his father’s opponent, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, ahead of meeting with Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

The president's eldest son, 39, responded by saying, "if it's what you say, I love it;" and set up a meeting with the source, according to the emails.

The Kremlin has denied any knowledge of the meeting and that it knew Veselnitskaya. The president's son has also played down the meeting, which reportedly took place on June 9, 2016 at the Trump Tower.

Bobbitt argues that even though President Trump faces the possibility of impeachment over obstruction of justice or incitement for the violation of a criminal statute, but the “likeliest possibility” is resignation.

“The likeliest possibility is the President’s resignation, as a consequence of the criminal prosecution of his children,” the law professor writes in the Evening Standard.

“Resignation, as remote as it seems right now, might well be a choice the President would make to save his children from prison, and himself from future prosecution,” emphasizes Professor Bobbitt, who is a nephew of former President Lyndon Johnson and a prominent constitutional theorist.

The president has defended his son, calling him a “wonderful young man” and a “good boy.”

“Would the President pardon them?” Bobbitt asks. “If he did, it would seal his impeachment and his own.”

Bobbitt has acted as special adviser to several US presidents since Johnson’s presidency.

Several congressional committees and federal investigators are looking into whether the Trump associates colluded with Russia in a bid to help the Republican billionaire in last year's US election.

Ex-Agent: CIA Carried out 9/11 Attacks

FARSNEWS2017/7/16
Ex-Agent: CIA Carried out 9/11 Attacks
TEHRAN (FNA)- The United States Central Intelligence Agency, CIA, carried out the September 11, 2001 attacks, a former spy at the agency revealed.

The 79-year-old retired CIA agent, Malcom Howard, has made a series of astounding claims since being released from hospital in New Jersey on Friday and told he has weeks to live, Al Waght reported.

Howard says he was involved in the “controlled demolition” of World Trade Center 7, the third building that was destroyed on 9/11.

Howard, who worked for the CIA for 36 years as an operative, says he was tapped by senior CIA agents to work on the project due to his engineering background, and early career in the demolition business.

Trained as a civil engineer, Howard became an explosives expert after being headhunted by the CIA in early 1980s. Mr. Howard says has extensive experience in planting explosives in items as small as cigarette lighters and as large as “80 floor buildings.”

The New Jersey native says he worked on the CIA operation they dubbed “New Century” between May 1997 and September 2001, during a time he says the CIA “was still taking orders from the top.” Mr. Howard says he was part of a cell of 4 operatives tasked with ensuring the demolition was successful.

Howard says the World Trade Center 7 operation is unique among his demolitions, as it is the only demolition that “we had to pretend wasn’t a demolition job”. He says he had no problem going through with the deception at the time, because

“When you are a patriot, you don’t question the motivation of the CIA or the White House. You assume the bigger purpose is for a greater good. They pick good, loyal people like me.” But even he admits that now, looking back, “Something wasn’t right.” “No good has come from this. This isn’t the America we envisioned.”

Scott Bennett, a former US Army psychological warfare officer based in San Francisco, has also been quoted as saying the 9/11 attacks were part of a carefully designed plan by the United States, Israel and Saudi Arabia to destabilize the West Asia region and push forward a Zionist-Wahhabi agenda, says a counter-terrorism analyst.

Mark Rossini, a former FBI special agent has been quoted by Newsweek as saying the US government has covered up secret relations between the CIA and Saudi individuals who may have abetted the plot. Fifteen of the 19 hijackers who flew commercial airliners into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and a failed effort to crash into the US Capitol, were Saudis.
