Moscow will continue to support Syrian Army troops in their anti-terrorism effort, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, after being asked whether Russian policy had changed following a reported chemical attack in the Idlib province.

Peskov cited the opinion of the Russian military, which said the contamination may have been caused by damage to a rebel chemical weapons storage site.

You have heard the statement from the Russian Defense Ministry and I have nothing to add to the facts they stated. The Russian Federation and its military are continuing the operation to support the anti-terrorism operation and liberation of the country, which is being conducted by the Syrian armed forces,” Peskov said.

The acting Russian envoy to the UN will voice this position during an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday, which was called following the chemical incident, Peskov added.

At least 70 people, including 11 children, have been reported killed in the town of Khan Sheikhoun after a suspected chemical weapons attack on Tuesday morning. Rebels accused the Syrian government of bombing the town with chemical munitions.

The accusations have been backed by a number of Western governments.

Staffan de Mistura, UN special envoy for Syria, said reliable evidence would be needed to confirm the alleged use of chemical weapons, let alone establish who was responsible for it.

“We have no yet any official or reliable confirmation,” he said on Wednesday. “We will be stimulating all those who have the capacity of finding out technically what had happened.”

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini also said there was no evidence yet to draw any conclusion on what had happened in the Idlib governorate, but stated that the Syrian government held “primary responsibility” for the situation.

Amid the public condemnation of Damascus for the attack and Moscow and Tehran for their support of the Syrian government, some experts pointed out that the Syrian Army had no rational reason for using chemical weapons against rebels in Idlib.

Iran, an ally of Damascus, condemned on Wednesday any use of chemical weapons and offered help to the victims.

“We are ready to bring the victims to Iran and help them,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said, as quoted by Tasnim news agency.

Earlier Turkey, an opponent and frequent critic of Damascus, reported treating dozens of victims of the alleged attack in hospitals located in the border province of Hatay, AP said.

The incident in Khan Sheikhoun happened days after Washington stated that ousting Syrian President Bashar Assad was no longer a priority for the US. The “Assad must go” premise was one of the cornerstones of Washington’s Syrian policy under Barack Obama. The Trump administration has been dismantling many of Obama’s policies.

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman said that the US and other countries submitted a draft resolution on Syria which is "completely" based on fake reports.

"On April 4, the Syrian Air Force aircraft carried out airstrikes on the extremists' positions on the Eastern outskirts of Khan Shaikhoun as part of the liquidation of consequences of the recent breakthrough of terrorists in the Hama province. Military equipment and ammunition depots were targets [of the airstrikes]. Workshops producing landmines filled with poisonous substances were located on the territory of the facility," Maria Zakharova said, RIA Novosti reported.

According to her, "reports about alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government against own people immediately appeared in the Internet and biased media sources."

Zakharova added that White Helmets and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) cannot be considered to be reliable sources as they have been repeatedly caught spreading fake reports on the situation in the war-torn country.

Russia categorically rejects the draft resolution on chemical weapons in Syria, Maria Zakharova said, adding that the West-proposed resolution is of "anti-Syrian nature" and risks making negotiations process impossible.

The Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman stressed that Moscow calls for a full-fledged investigation into the alleged use of chemical weapons in Idlib.

Turkey Planning to Form More Terrorist Groups in Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyadh Haddad said that Turkey is planning to form two new terrorist groups in Syria.

Haddad said that Ankara intends to rebrand the ISIL and Al-Nusra Front (also known as Fatah al-Sham Front or the Levant Liberation Board) terrorists groups.

He added that Turkey has vowed to give Turkish nationality and pay $400 monthly salaries to all fresh members of the new terrorist groups.

Media sources reported in late March that ISIL members joined the Turkey-backed militants of the Euphrates Shield Operation.

Hawar news website released images of ISIL Emir Mostafa Abi, nom de guerre Abu Ayesheh, along with two of his comrades in Homs province, and reported that he was a member of al-Mo'tasem Bellah group.

According to Hawar news, the other two ISIL militants seen in the image were now members of Jeish al-Izzah terrorist group.

Meantime, the news website released an image of militants in ISIL uniforms standing among the Euphrates Shield Operation forces.

Hawar news had reported in March that the Turkish Army troops forced Arab citizens in Northern Syria to join the Ankara-backed militants of the Euphrates Shield Operation, killing those who did not obey.

It added that the Turkish army killed four civilians in the villages of Kari Sabi town in Northern Syria after they refused to join the Euphrates Shield Operation forces.

Hawar new went on to say that the Turkish soldiers further left the body of the killed Syrian civilians at the border region between Rojava and Bakour in Syria's Kurdistan.

The news website added that the Turkish army intended to send the four killed civilians via border to Rojava but it faced tough opposition by the civilians.

A gas attack has reportedly taken place in Syria’s rebel-held Idlib, killing at least 58 people, with various media outlets reporting that a rocket has since hit a hospital treating the victims. The Syrian army has denied it was behind the attack.

Locals said the alleged attack began in the early morning, when they heard planes in the sky followed by a series of loud explosions, after which people very quickly began to show symptoms, Al Jazeera reported.

Pictures circulated by activists showed members of the volunteer White Helmets rescue group using hoses to wash down the injured, as well as two men with white foam around their mouths.

The pro-opposition Edlib Media Centre (EMC) also posted photos of people receiving treatment online, with some images showing what appeared to be the bodies of at least seven children in the back of a pick-up truck, France 24 reported.

Later a rocket slammed into a hospital treating the victims of the alleged gas attack, according to an AFP correspondent.

France has also called for an emergency UN Security Council (UNSC) meeting following the suspected attack, according to Reuters.

However, the UNSC will likely discuss the attack tomorrow, during a meeting which was previously scheduled, a correspondent for the Arabic-language Alhurra satellite television channel wrote on Twitter.

EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini says the Syrian government bears responsibility for the alleged attack, calling it “awful.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has also called for an investigation into the alleged attack, writing on Twitter that those responsible must be "held to account."

'Toxic gas attack' in Syria kills at least 58 people

Damascus Blames Terrorist Groups for Using Chemical Weapons in Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- The General Command of the Army and Armed Forces categorically denied allegations and claims circulated by media outlets, which are partner in shedding the Syrian blood, about the use of chemical substances in the town of Khan Shaikhoun in Idlib countryside.

“The armed terrorist groups used to accuse the Syrian Arab Army of using toxic gases against them or against civilians at anytime they fail to implement the targets of their sponsors and operators or when they are unable to achieve any advantages on the ground in an desperate attempt to justify their failure and to maintain the support of their masters,” the Army’s general command said in a statement, SANA reported.

It categorically denied any use of chemical or poisonous materials in the town of Khan Shaikhoun in Idlib countryside, affirming that it didn’t and will never use those materials in any place or time, nor in the future.

The army’s general command held the terrorist groups and those behind them responsible for the use of chemical and toxic substances and the disregard for the lives of innocent citizens to achieve their goals and base agendas.

Syria: Terrorists Aware of Chemical Attack on Idlib
TEHRAN (FNA)- Media activists disclosed the message of a terrorist-affiliated journalist about impending chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun region in Southern Idlib hours before the attack happened on Tuesday.

Social media activist in tweeter and facebook released the image of one of the messages of Faras Karam, a journalist of Orient network affiliated to the terrorist groups, about a chemical raid on Khan Sheikhoun several hours before the attack.

"Faras Karam wrote in his message, published at 3:06 on Monday morning hours before the chemical attack, that "a media campaign will kick off tomorrow to cover chlorine gas airstrike on civilians in Hama countryside".

Media activists are now asking how Faras could find out about the attack and its type several hours before the incident, questioning how he also could specifically determine the chemical element to be used in the attack (chlorine gas).

On Tuesday, media and news sources affiliated to opposition released news about chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun, accusing Syrian government of carrying out the attack via its Sukhoi 22 fighter jets that left tens of people dead or wounded.

Meantime, a senior Syrian military source underlined that the Al-Nusra Front (also known as Fatah al-Sham Front or the Levant Liberation Board) is the only side in Syria which has access to chemical weapons, raising speculations about certain western spy agencies' role in chemical attack against Idlib.

Iraqi Commander: US, Turkey Pressuring Baghdad to Postpone Liberation Plans in Tal Afar

TEHRAN (FNA)- Washington and Ankara are pressuring Baghdad to postpone plans to fully take back Tal Afar from the ISIL terrorist group, a senior commander of Hashd al-Shaabi (Iraqi volunteer forces) said on Wednesday.

"The US and Turkey are exerting much political pressure on Baghdad to prevent the capture of the strategic city of Tal Afar in Western Mosul," Nazzem al-Assadi told FNA.

Stressing that the Iraqi army's operations to retake Tal Afar will start soon in cooperation with Hashd al-Shaabi despite all obstacles, he said, "The volunteer forces are prepared for the battle and are ready to start operations after besieging the city from several directions."

His remarks came after a spokesperson for Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces said the number of ISIL militants currently fighting in Western Mosul stands at 2,000 members, higher than the 1000 estimated by the US-led coalition.

The PMF's spokesperson, Ahmed al-Assadi, said Tuesday that 70 percent of ISIL militants in Western Mosul were Iraqi nationals.

“Numbers mentioned by US officials, about the numbers of terrorist ISIL members being nearly 1,000, are related to only Western Mosul,” Assadi said.

“What is left of the Western side does not exceed 30 percent of the city's territory, so the number of militants does not exceed 1,000, and they are trapped in that space,” he added.

According to Assadi, the number of ISIL members at the group’s so-called “al-Jazeera State”, reaches more than 3,000 fighters, and there are 2,000 others in “Nineveh State”.

ISIL’s Al-Jazeera State comprises towns and regions West of Mosul and near the borders with Syria like Ba'aj, Tal Afar and Mahalabiya, while Nineveh State primarily includes Mosul.

“Those terrorists, though shrinking in numbers, are still holding between 200,000 and 300,000 civilians.

Mosul fell to ISIL militants in 2014 and the group’s ringleader declared a self-proclaimed caliphate in these parts of Iraq, as well as in neighboring Syria.

Iraqi government troops launched an offensive in October to retake the city, managing to recapture the Eastern region in January and launching an offensive in February to retake the West.

Rebel warehouse with chem weapons hit by Syrian airstrike in Idlib – Russian MOD

The Syrian Air Force has destroyed a warehouse in Idlib province, where ammunition dump containing chemical weapons was being produced by militants before being delivered to Iraq, the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman has said.

The strike, which was launched midday Tuesday, targeted a major rebel ammunition depot east of the town of Khan Sheikhoun, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said in a statement.

The warehouse was used to both produce and store shells containing toxic gas, Konashenkov said. The shells were delivered to Iraq and repeatedly used there, he added, pointing out that both Iraq and international organizations have confirmed the use of such weapons by militants.

The same chemical munitions were used by militants in Aleppo, where Russian military experts took samples in late 2016, Konashenkov said.

The Defense Ministry has confirmed this information as “fully objective and verified,” Konashenkov added.

According to the statement, Khan Sheikhoun civilians, who recently suffered a chemical attack, displayed identical symptoms to those of Aleppo chemical attack victims.

At least 58 people, including 11 children, reportedly died and scores were injured after a hospital in Khan Sheikhoun was targeted in a suspected gas attack on Tuesday morning, Reuters reported, citing medics and rebel activists. Soon after a missile allegedly hit the facility, people started showing symptoms of chemical poisoning, such as choking and fainting. The victims were reportedly also seen with foam coming out of their mouths. While the major Syrian opposition group, the Syrian National Coalition, and other pro-rebel groups put the blame on the attack onto President Bashar Assad’s government, the Syrian military dismissed all allegations as propaganda by the rebels.

"We deny completely the use of any chemical or toxic material in Khan Sheikhoun town today and the army has not used nor will use in any place or time, neither in past or in future," the Syrian army said in a statement.

The Russian military stated it did not carry out any airstrike in the area either.
However, EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini, commenting on the incident, was quick to point to the Syrian government as a culprit, saying that it bears responsibility for the “awful” attack.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson echoed Mogherini, accusing the Syrian government of perpetrating the attack calling it “brutal, unabashed barbarism.” He argued, that besides the Syrian authorities, Iran and Russia should also bear “moral responsibility” for it.

'Toxic gas attack' in Syria kills at least 58 people

Military Source: Al-Nusra Front Only Party to Possess Chemical Weapons in Syria
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Syrian military source underlined that the Al-Nusra Front (also known as Fatah al-Sham Front or the Levant Liberation Board) is the only side in Syria which has access to chemical weapons, raising speculations about certain western spy agencies' role in chemical attack against Idlib.

"The Syrian army has not used any chemical gases against the citizens in Idlib and it is not logical for the army to kill the residents of a city that it is trying to set free," the military source told the Arabic website of Sputnik news agency on Wednesday.

He underlined that the Syrian army has had no chemical weapons since 2012 when the terrorist groups stole and transferred its chemical weapons to their caches.

Stressing that al-Nusra Front is the only side which possesses chemical weapons, including toxic gases, the source raised the possibility that certain western spy agencies have also played a role in the chemical attack which killed dozens of people in Idlib province.

Meantime, the General Command of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces categorically denied allegations and claims circulated by media outlets about the use of chemical substances in the town of Khan Shaikhoun in Idlib countryside.

“The armed terrorist groups used to accuse the Syrian Arab Army of using toxic gases against them or against civilians at anytime they fail to implement the targets of their sponsors and operators or when they are unable to achieve any advantages on the ground in an desperate attempt to justify their failure and to maintain the support of their masters,” the Army’s general command said in a statement.

He also said a “Faustian bargain with Assad and Putin” would betray US allies and partners and “empower ISIS, al-Qaeda, and other radical Islamist terrorists as the only alternative to the dictator that the Syrian people have fought for six years to remove.”

ISIL Calls Trump Idiot, Sign of US 'Demise'

TEHRAN (FNA)- The ISIL terror group censured US President Donald Trump, saying the country is “being run by an idiot”.

“There is no more evidence than that you being run by an idiot who does not know what Syria or Iraq or Islam is,” the ISIL spokesman, Abi al-Hassan al- Muhajer said, Daily Mail reported.

The group’s silence was broken long after Trump’s repeated promises on the campaign trail to tackle the terrorist group after winning the White House in the 2016 presidential election.

“Die of spite America, die of spite, a nation where both young and old are racing to die in the name of God will not be defeated,” Muhajer said.

The terror group also threatened to attack Americans across the world.

“America you have drowned and there is no savior, and you have become prey for the soldiers of the caliphate in every part of the earth, you are bankrupt and the signs of your demise are evident to every eye.”

The statement was released a day after Trump was mentioned on top of a “kill list,” published by a pro-ISIL hacker group, called the United Cyber Caliphate, presstv reported.

“Kill them wherever you find them,” the UCC said. “Know that we continue to wage war against you. Know that your counter attacks only make us stronger. The UCC will start a new step in this war against you. So expect us soon.”

The US started airstrikes in Iraq and Syria on the pretext of battling the group in the administration of former President Barack Obama.

The new president’s unpopularity, particularly among Muslims across the world, is reportedly being used by militants, seeking to whip up support for their terror agenda.

In an interview last year, a top militant commander in Afghanistan directly acknowledged that and described Obama as a “moderate infidel.”

“This guy, Trump, is a complete maniac,” said Abu Omar Khorasani. “His utter hate towards Muslims will make our job much easier because we can recruit thousands.”

Washington (CNN) Updated 1818 GMT (0218 HKT) March 24, 2017
Specific intelligence indicators now show that North Korea is ready for its sixth underground nuclear test at any time, two US officials told CNN on Friday.
Recent satellite imagery indicates a potentially significant change at the Punggye-ri test site, the officials said. For weeks, satellites had observed extensive activity on the surface, including vehicles, personnel and equipment, as well as two tunnel entrances being dug out.
But the most recent imagery shows that activity has now stopped. That is a similar change in the pattern of activity just before previous tests, indicating all final preparations are now complete, officials said.

The South Korean government issued a statement Friday saying a test can happen as soon as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un orders it.

"It is assessed that North Korea is ready to carry out a nuclear test anytime if its leadership decides to do so," Lee Duk-haeng, spokesman for South Korea's the Ministry of Unification, said in a press briefing. He said that "South Korean and US intelligence authorities evaluate that North Korea is ready to carry out a nuclear test anytime on the leadership's decision."

North Korea also continues to move equipment and personnel that could be used to launch ballistic missiles, the US officials said. They caution, however, it's impossible for the United States to know when a mobile launch or an underground nuclear test will happen. North Korea has a history of moving military personnel and gear around to deceive satellites the regime knows are watching.

John McCain has managed to infuriate North Korea after criticizing both Kim Jong-un's politics and physique in one scathing “crazy fat kid” insult. Pyongyang has warned of "disastrous consequences," claiming the comments are a “declaration of war.”
McCain didn't mince his words when referring to Kim during an interview with MSNBC last week, stating that "China is the only one that can control Kim Jong-un, this crazy fat kid that’s running North Korea."
“They could stop North Korea’s economy in a week," he added.

Veteran money manager sees risks for US stocks beyond Trump politics

The American economy presents more risk to the US stock rally than the political strain between President Donald Trump and Congress that investors are currently concentrating on, according to veteran money manager Bob Doll, as quoted by Bloomberg.

Unprecedented optimism over the country’s economy is leaving traders highly vulnerable to negative surprises on growth, said Doll, the Chicago-based chief equity strategist and senior portfolio manager at Nuveen Asset Management, which oversees nearly $230 billion.

Doll stays bullish on longer-term equities, saying that assets and high-yield bonds may suffer in the short-term with risks of a deeper sell-off growing.

“We remain constructive in the medium-and long-term toward risk assets but are growing increasingly cautious about the short-term outlook. More than politics, the economy probably presents a more probable roadblock for equities,” the analyst wrote in a letter, seen by Bloomberg.

Doll highlighted a lack of progress on a budget agreement and some hurdles on tax reform. All in all, a tax bill will be passed, but it may be more limited in scope than expected, according to the expert.

However, the bull-run in US stocks lasting for eight years used to deceive pessimists, who forecast declines in the market. Doll acknowledged that it was not clear yet which factor may evoke a new wave of defensive reactions.

“We are not expecting a significant economic slowdown, but the nearly non-stop pace of positive economic data is unlikely to continue. At some point, a setback will likely be triggered by a manufacturing decline, soft oil prices, weakening data from China or some other factor, which could spark a risk-off phase,” he said.
